I met with the behavioral specialist and dietitian today and they were both so wonderful! I especially felt a connection with the behavioral specialist. She was kind and honest and supportive and just so amazing. I am so happy that @ talked about Bluepoint! My two additional classes will be online and they are already scheduled! Based on my history and our consultation, I'll be satisfying the psych eval with Bluepoint and won't have to go see a psychologist 3 times! That is a huge relief!

Can anyone compared RNY to c-section?
RNYDawn replied to RNYDawn's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
very similar experience with me, too. the worst rny pain was the gas, i only took pills for my dehydration headache. and my baby was only 13 months at the time, so i couldn't avoid not lifting her for weeks. we managed. Thank you so much! Hooboy, My kids will be 2 and almost 5 at the time of my surgery. I'll have to let the 2 year old be her independent self (I may be guilty of not wanting her to get big!) and assist vs. do things for her -
Great job!!! ❤️

I already feel like a kid on Christmas Eve! My first nutritional counseling session is tomorrow and it kicks off my 90 day program for BCBS FEP! So far I have: -gotten my weights for insurance submission -scheduled PCP visit for blood work, urinalysis, and EKG -scheduled endoscopy with surgeon -inquired on psych eval but am using behavioral specialist at surgeon's office instead -sleep doctor consult scheduled for this week Remaining list: -Ultrasound -X-Ray -Psych eval through surgeon's office -Complete nutritional sessions It's so much less overwhelming when I list it out and break it down!

I am new so please forgive me if this has been answered. Is bypass a better choice for those of us with severe acid reflux? I had an endoscopy a fe months ago and the doctor said he saw mild inflammation but that was it. I've read a bit that the sleeve can worsen reflux but I don't if that's the norm. Any insight on this would be great...I start calling doctors tomorrow! ????

Can anyone compared RNY to c-section?
RNYDawn replied to RNYDawn's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
ha! So true! Yeah, I had about the same c-section experience with the first and second. I remember trying to walk up the street at two weeks post-op with my first kid - and I was in so much pain by the time I got back. I probably walked 75 yards total and it was just too much. I was walking more than that the day after my second kid was born. When I had my gall bladder removed, I had really bad gas pain. I had to spend the night at the hospital due to my reaction to the anesthesia and my nurse was so amazing. When I complained about the gas pain, she put pillows around me which took the pressure off of the right spots - it totally eliminated the gas pain! If I could only remember what she did! -
Does anyone feel pressured by surgeon to have the bypass (instead of sleeve)
RNYDawn replied to Mayastone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's awesome! I was really leaning toward the sleeve until I read more about GERD and the sleeve not playing well together. My surgeon and I agreed that RNY was the best option for me and I hope all surgeons listen to their patients as well as mine did. My first consult/seminar was with a surgeon who said the sleeve would be fine for me, even after I told him about GERD...thank goodness I didn't follow up with him! -
Congratulations!

Letter of Referral/Recommendation from Primary Doctor
RNYDawn posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So sorry for all of my questions and posts. I have not had a PCP for years. I have been going to an urgent care facility for anything that comes up - sinus infections, flu, etc. My insurance (BCBS Fed) requires a letter of reference/referral from my PCP as part of my approval package. I asked today if the urgent care could write such a letter and was told no since they have never treated me for weight loss or obesity. My bariatric counselor referred me to a PCP that takes my insurance and she said they refer a lot of people there. I have an appointment on Friday to get my blood work and EKG completed, and I have my medical records from the urgent care. Do I wait for a couple months before asking for this letter of reference? Do I mention it this week? Any advice you have would be great - thank you! -

Thank you! Yes, I have print outs that show everything from 2011 from urgent care. Including GERD, pre-hypertension, my weight, and whatever I was being seen for. Thank you so much! -

No, I just started. The bariatric specialist said February or March but I'm hoping for February! My first nutrition class is Thursday and I'm excited. ???? We have a recliner in our youngest's room that I may have to move into my room for a while!

Good point thank you! I forced myself to move after both c-sections and I'm determined to do the same for this surgery. Thanks again! -

WOOHOO! Congrats! -
Oh you poor thing! I hurt my back and it was so painful to get up from laying my stomach (needed for physical therapy and X-rays!) I had 2 c-sections so I'm hoping my body remembers not to lay on my stomach again after surgery!

Congrats! My eyes twitch when I'm stressed! Keep us updated on your progress! ????
