  1. .

    "."?

Shouldn't periods be discussed in the "Female Only" forum? :)

    Hahaha!!!

I had a lot more written then I decided to delete it. It was too negative and judgmental. I'm not here to bash anyone, we get that enough in the real world. Who cares how many times someone asks the same question over and over? I mean, we've all struggled at some point, right? So, I decided to edit my post to nothing because I don't want to be shaming the very same people who are in my very same boat.

Must've been on my period when I wrote the original.

  2. I already can't wait for my tummy tuck! Lol. I'll have had a total of 8 appointments I had to come to the hospital for plus lab work, which I did on another appointment day. Then I have the 3-7 day stay at the hospital, then the follow ups and follow up nutrition class.

    I've had:

Meeting with doctor in a group

Meeting with Dr one on one (same day as group)

    2 nutrition classes

    Lab work

EGD (an outpatient surgery they look into your stomach beforehand)

    Pre-Op appointment

    Lab work

    Psychological evaluation

    Anesthesiologist appointment

Then actual surgery this coming December 29th

I had a friend who also had to do a follow up appointment with the same doctor.

I'm sure you can get some of the appointments scheduled the same days as others so you can make fewer visits. The whole process has been very very simple, they don't require a 6 month diet program like some places do, and everything is totally free (except food and vitamins). My journey began in October, and the thing that took the longest is actually waiting for the surgeon to have an open day in his schedule. It's awesome. Best of luck to you.

  3. Hello everyone, im new to this forum and i was wondering did any of you only had 75 or 80 pounds to lose? Do you think RNY was the best option? I was originally going to have gastric sleeve surgery since I didn't have to lose much weight and was a safer option surgery wise but now my doctor says no i have to go with RNY because my Gerd is pretty bad plus i have gastritis. Sorry just a little scared since i see more complications with RNY and i see people getting bony skinny which i dont want, i just want to be on a healthy weight. Thank you in advance for your responses

I myself have "only" 70-80 pounds to lose, and have my surgery scheduled for December 29th. I don't know where I'll be when I'm done losing in terms of weight, but I DO know I'll be at less risk for heart attack ect. I know that on my own, without the surgery, it's very unlikely I'll be able to lose weight, and keep it off, for life - on shear will power alone. So, I'm having gastric bypass - and if in a few years I regret it for whatever reason, it's reversible.

  4. @@cookarue how long did your process take total? Did you have the 6 months of supervised weight loss? I keep having to remind myself to calm down and not get too far ahead of myself. In the end- I know that I can follow all the rules and submit everything they require and still be denied. That's probably my biggest fear at this point. I try to stick with the positive thoughts = positive outcome mindset. But I am absolutely terrified that insurance will not give me the ok for this, leaving me completely devastated. I can't even bare the thought..

I didn't have to do 6 months of the supervised weight loss. I had to do like 2 months, and I had to give them a history of my dieting and exercise for as far back as I could remember. I am on a military base though, so it's different then normal insurance. But since I've met with the surgeon (also on base), I've had to do egd, nutrition classes, psych evaluation, and then finally I'll get surgery. I've been in the process since June. Just know that your insurance covers this so they don't have to cover future problems. If they say this is covered, you're a good candidate for it, you do everything they require, then you're going to be approved. Trust the process. If you're determined, it'll come. It's going to happen.

  5. Sounds like we'll be bypass babes soon! Congratulations on finishing your 6 month follow up with the surgeon. That's the tough part. It should go quickly for you from now on. I have a friend who was going to get sleeved on the same day as my bypass, with the same doctor, but after her egd they recommended bypass to her also. She decided yesterday to get the bypass instead. I think yours is a common dilemma, but not an easy one. I think, in the end, bypass or sleeve - we're all just making decisions to better our health and our future. That's just SO exciting in itself. Way to go US! Keep us posted on your surgeries, can't wait to see/hear all your future success.

  6. I was offered both options, and I went with bypass from the beginning. My reasons were because I have reflux and nausea on my own (the sleeve can make this worse), and there has been years and years of long term studies done on the bypass, but not the same for sleeve. Years ago, people thought lap band was the way to go, but we're now learning that it doesn't work all that well and there have been many complications, and lot of revisions. I'm not saying that the sleeve will turn out to be the same "fad" surgery, but the research just isn't there for it like the bypass is. Also, there have been studies that show the bypass is actually more effective at long term weight loss than the sleeve. I'm 5'2 230 pounds, so I qualify for both surgeries, but I'm not so big that I need more drastic measures, I just want to have only one surgery, done right the first time. I don't want to be sleeved and then have to do revision surgery later because it's not as effective as bypass. As far as the dumping goes, I actually WANT that as a tool to keep me, and my weight, in check. I feel like my weight is a big enough problem in my life to have surgery for it, so I'm going to go all-in, and get the bypass.

My surgery is scheduled for December 29th. SO excited!!

  7. I have TriCare! I went to my pcp and told her I wanted surgery, she made me go to a nutrition class and said if I hadn't lost any weight in two months, come back in. That was in July. September I went back to her, hadn't lost any weight, so she referred me to the bariatric surgeon on base. He basically told me as long as I do everything I'm supposed to, and don't gain weight, I'll get the surgery. Sleeve or RNY - which I was surprised about because they TriCare online says the sleeve isn't covered, but it is through the base surgeon apparently. I'm still doing gastric bypass though. Anyway, got my labs, got my mental health, got my egd (well I'll be done with it Monday). So, my surgeon called me this morning and told me he has December 29th as my surgery date! All I have to do now is a bariatric nutrition class, then I'm getting my surgery. I have to be on a liquid diet for a week during Christmas (that sucks), but whatever! It'll be worth it when I'm healthy next Christmas!
