  1. I feel you! Reverence my response above on how I deal with it... I wonder if it will go away or if anyone has thoughts on it
  2. So sorry you are experiencing that. It’s frustrating for sure. No hair loss on my side yet... I did have a bit when I had the Sleeve...are you able to take all your vities. Biotine helped stop it for me. As for night eating... well.... all I can say is... maybe be ready for it with healthy snacks! So for example last night I had a cup of creamy Almond Yoghurt with frozen blueberries I threw in there ... yum! If that does not work, then 5 sprouted wheat crackers with 5 cashews eaten and savored slowly is my go to. Or a protein bar. Once I dealt with it by getting an infused tea. So I have Verbine Tea leaves I got from a market in Morocco. I seeped them in hot water and when added some Hazelnut milk... Devine!!! Verbina leaves are calming to the nerves , so it really took the edge off. We are stressed out I think, new body new rules, nervous of it will work etc.... we need to be gentle and kind to ourselves. Good luck dear, you are not alone hungry at night, let’s beat each other up with some good couping strategies and snack ideas 🌸
  3. Hearty Vegetarian Meatless meat/Chickpea/Great White Bean Coconut Punjab Curry stew!!! I initially made it for myself and wanted kids to taste. They could not believe it had no meat! Kids had it on a bed of soft fluffy Jasmine rice! I had it with a few rice grains on top as a topping lol, but we all shared a delicious nutritious hearty filling meal. Kids came back for 2nd and 3rds!!! I was hoping I would at least have one serving for another meal...nada, they lapped it all up!!!
  4. Hi @Megan Sadler ,just re-read your message you must have missed my response to you re Gen pro that I posted several days ago , it’s the post before this one. 😊
  5. Oh really! Awesome! Congratulations dear Surgery Twin 8/22/18, on your new life!!! We took a brave step towards health, and may God bless us with wonderful results of health in a lean fit body. Are you a revision as well?
  6. You and I talked at length so hopefully my advice helped. Sleeve to RNY revision. That first doc did my revision and had been doing bypasses for 20 years, so is well respected in the industry. Now bedside manner is another thing... I’m 5 weeks out, and aside from sorting insurance out, no regrets :))
  7. Sorry for the delay in response, I used to be able to hit quote on cell phone and just respond and now I can't and I must log in each time then thread through the messages, ugh...anywho, back to your question... So it's MUCH easier than I thought! 1 Scoop Gen Pro in Green Smoothie or Coffee = 30g protein! If you use Soy Milk in your smoothie that's an EXTRA 7g protein so 37g just in the morning. Then I like me a solid protien suppliment. So like a PureProtein Silky chocolate Bar (which totally feels like a desert treat to me) is another 21g Protein so that right there is 58g protein. I usually keep it in my purse when going out or shopping and in stressful situations (such as the British festival in Central Market yesterday where they had my favorite Chocolate covered Shortbread cookies available to SAMPLE!!!), I take a bite to take the edge of.f Add a NeuroProtein Water for 10 more G and you are at 68 g for the day! Now if you do even 1 shake like Premier, you are at 98g protein!!! but I don't always go that route. I will do humus or a Crunchy Protein Chip snack for extra 10 - 15 g protein Sometimes for snack I'll have 5 Whole Wheat Crackers and 5 Cashews = A couple more protein grams here and there. Then there are protein substitutes, like Meatless Meatballs, Meatless Crabcake balls, etc that are packed with protein and are a quick cook! So most days I wind up with well over 80g protein! Like they other day I had 106 protein, 58 Net Carbs and 820calories, with 23 sugars (but all the good kind). The fiber in the fruits and veggies helps drive down my Net Carbs, cuz you can subtract those back out. But the most important part of this is that I feel like I'm nourishing my body. I mean yeah the docs would like you to be All Protein, NO Sugar etc etc, but is that sustainable? Is that good for you? And also, Megan, you are loosing weight wonderfully!!! OMG you are doing great, so I would not stress about the exact mix. For me, it's less about loosing weight and more about GAINING health and vitality, and loving and respecting my body enough to nourish and take care of it. The weight loss is a natural byproduct of that. Since yesterday another pound rolled off, but not through food punishment and starvation and a negative relationship with food that has plagued me all my life, but a vibrant positive attitude towards eating coupled with enjoying every morsel of what I eat. I am using Baritastic to track stuff...I don't particularly like tracking. You're a slave to the scale, a slave to the app (I know it's good for accountability etc), but once I am cleared for all foods...which, at this point, I'm at 5 weeks and like I said, I've kinda been doing my own research and carving out a healthy plan I can adhere to, the idea will be to ditch the incessant tracking, weighing, stressing and obsessing, and learn to listen to my body with love and compassion. I know it sounds corny, BUT...this being my 3rd rodeo and all, I know that at first, you are all into the numbers, the digits, the macro nutrients etc etc, and you can really burn yourself out on that and become sick of it, which can derail you and lead to weight gain in the end. No Bueno! A good plan is one you can stick to long term. I also know I don't want to wind up deficient and sick. Like after my Sleeve, I wounded up so Anemic and raggedy and tired, I was going in every 3 weeks for Iron infusions. Sitting there with my Elective mess along with other patients who where there for bonafide serious stuff like Chemo. I was feeling, unhealthy and demoralized. Like I had gotten the whole food thing wrong. A horrible place to be mentally and physically. Anywho, hope this helps. It's just my advice, and of course I'm not a doctor or anything. BUT I also know that I cannot fully trust a doctor or surgeon etc with MY health. The medical system is too disjointed! I cannot trust my OB completely, to them I'm just a Uterus, I cannot trust my Bariatric Surgeon competly, to him my success lies in the Scale numbrer and my health is so much more than a number etc. So all this to say I am a firm believer in you being an informed patient that listens not only to others but to what your body is trying to tell you as well
  8. Haha! So I got it from their Website: https://geneproprotein.com/ but it's been a while so I don't know if they still sell it in that format. I poked around and it seems they have cut on the packaging and it's now in a foil pack vrs big canister. May need to email them and ask whats up...
  9. For breakfast today I made a fresh delicious Strawberry Rhubarb smoothie! Dusted off with some Nutmeg it felt like I was ushering in the Fall with all the pump and circumstances of a pie, minus the calories :). Below all pics and process! PS: Yes, my nails are polished to reflect my love of delicious nutritious Green Smoothies 😋
  10. I hear you! But you know...Veggies have Fiber which decrement from the Carb count and reduce it by that amount. Plus they keep you REGULAR I've been super regular after I started my AMAZING Green SMoothie for the AM. Not sure if I posted Recipie but it's like this: 1 Cup Organic Baby Kale and Spinich Mix 1 Cup Organic Unsweet Soy milk A dash of my Coconut Probiotic water 1 Scoop GenPro 30g protein mix Fresh Papaya Frozen Blueberry OR Mango OR Strawberry (I mix and match to taste) OR this AM I had Frozen Pear, Banana, Lemon, Spearmint mix And my entire One a Day Chewable Bari Vitamin with 45mg Iron (I totally don't taste it in there! So its the first time since surgery I'm able to take the whole thing!) Ice to taste I wind up getting about 18oz of it when it's all said and done So I blend it all up and VIOLA! Health and vitality in a delicious nutritious drink! Getting ALL my vities for the day, it keeps me FULL and it's just brimming with goodness, gut health, and nutrition and my body is like "aaaaahhhhhhh", I actually can't wait for it and crave it! That's fiber and everything good good good for me. Yes I want to loose weight, but more so I want to gain health! So since starting, my stall broke too! 242lb today, when I was teetering on 245 (oh and by the ways, I've broke my stall by going totally Vegan too I did that after watching the "What the Health" documentary and getting an epiphany....(more on that in a the other thread I started), but anywho, I feel great and I have had a burst of energy, and I'm walking almost 5 miles a day and doing light weights and feeling the vitality that has eluded me for so long. And the carbs, yes I have actually upped the carbs, I have a few healthy crackers, with a flavourful hummus or cashews and I think that stoked the furnace in my favor too
  11. Night snacking: I’m having a hard time not snacking at night. I sleep in a recliner many nights, working, researching. And I still have munches, I’m 4.5 weeks out of Sleeve to RNY revision. I’m not going over calories, so a bowl of Cashew Yoghurt with Blue berries, a high protein low carb bar, or some protein chips. But worried and wondering if this is undermining my efforts? And why do I still have munchies anyways? Surgery date 8/22, I’ve lost 28lb total, 14 before and 14 after ::

    Anyone from Dfw area?

Yes he did my surgery last month. You can personal box me and I’ll be happy to chat with you.
  13. Fellow RNY'ers, So in my quest to understand what and how we should eat, the other night I watched "What the Health" Documentary on Netflix.... Because yes I want to loose weight but even more than that I want to be healthy, have vitality, have energy, nourish my body and re-learn how to eat to support those goals. Let's just say I was...disturbed. It seems like EVERYTHING I thought about food is...wrong!? I walked over and watched my kiddos (6 and 8), peacefully sleeping, and I felt like I was failing them. For I have taught that Eggs, Milk, Chicken, Yogurt etc is good. Following this documentary I hesitate to ever buy those products again. But what and how do I replace those items?? And to my dismay I also realized that , as a person 4 weeks post Sleeve to RNY revision, I know that going forward my diet will be very much an animal protein first diet, then a few spoons of veggie. My mind is swarming a little and I'm trying to make sense of this new knowledge. I called my doctors office and made an appointment with a nutritionist, but in the meantime....if any of you has watched this or cares to watch it and discuss, please post here. I would really love to know your thoughts and reactions.
  14. This seems to be the latest from Harvard on the matter that I’ve read: suggesting it is Soy Isolates we need to be weary off, vrs whole Soy products like Soy milk Confused about eating soy? News briefs Published: March, 2018 Image: © hanhanpeggy/Getty Images The FDA wants to pull its support of the health claim that eating soy protein may help reduce the risk of heart disease. The agency proposed the change last fall, citing evidence that questions whether there's any real benefit to heart health. If the FDA goes through with the move, then food makers will no longer be allowed to market soy products with the claim that they can help your heart. But soy won't hurt your heart, and soy does have other benefits. "It's high in polyunsaturated fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, and low in saturated fat. Natural soy products — like tofu or edamame — could replace red meat and other animal sources of protein higher in saturated fat," says dietitian Kathy McManus, director of the Department of Nutrition at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital. One caveat: some soy products contain estrogen-like chemicals that could have adverse effects. So stay away from soy isoflavone supplements and foods made with textured vegetable protein and soy protein isolate, found in many protein powders and nutrition bars. Still, McManus says it's okay to eat whole soy foods — like soy milk, edamame, and tofu — in moderation, several times per week.
  15. Those beans are gynormous! And they brown so nicely! They even slightly pop open with a potato like center, and their full nutty flavor is just delicious! Ok now I’ve made my own mouth water!
  16. I know Soy is not perfect, anc the links to affecting Thyroid and such. I’ve read a bunch on that too... men it’s hard to navigate the nutritional waters! I may switch to Almond, but for now, it’s tying me over, I’m only 4 weeks post op and my doc does not allow ANY diary in this time even if I wanted it. Almond may be the way to go ultimately...
  17. I know huh! Thank you for affirming my feelings. Like you said, maybe the answer is in small changes. For example I have found Soymilk to be quite creamy and dreamy. And Garlic Hummus the other day satisfied my savory creamy craving quite nicely too. And the bulk section at Central Market is brimming with beans to explore. I uncovered Christmas beans a few years ago! Omg what s joy, so hearty and nutty. Boiled then braised in Olive oil they rival any French fry and are SO filling!
  18. Thank you so much! Yes, I know, it's hard to give those products up, they are so pervasive! And, you are right, I'm sure it can be done, but to squeeze that Protein count out Veggies, like you said there with probably be a Carb penalty, with the associated calories. I'm sure someone is doing it quite elegantly though, perhaps they will happen upon this thread and let us know how. I'll post what my team says as well! Have to wait a few weeks to get in, but I think it's worth it to keep seeking
  19. Thank you for the response. However I must honestly say that I do not appreciate the insinuation that I (or anyone), am so flippant, ignorant or infantile to change the way I eat based on one documentary!?! Also, why do you automatically assume that I do not do my research and do not make decisions on well-founded research!?! And finally, why do you assume that I would get caught up in biased hype? The responder before you totally got the heart and intent of my question. She answered with the same general sentiment as you, but her answer was compassionate and backed by relevant information MINUS the judgmental condescending tone of your response. If you had nothing more to add to that but wagging a proverbial finger at me for wanting to have open (educated discourse), then why respond at all. If that was not the intent of your response, then please re-read it and see how you came off that way. We are all going through a very physically and emotionally tasking process, and our responses should be tactful and reflective. This is afterall supposed to be a place of information sharing and support.
  20. Thank you so much for balancing the content with this. I look forward to reviewing it! I am a life long learner so this has not been just one documentary. I watch and read a LOT, and this documentary kind of culminated a lot of research for me and resonated with what I had been coming to. Especially on ethical basis. But, I also know that there are several viewpoints and ways to distill it all down, which is why I started this thread. So thank you.
  21. Ok, no banana for me I'll do Papaya and maybe 2 Cashews instead
  22. OMG that's awesome, congrats! You are melting!
  23. Are bananas ok to eat? Seriously craving a banana and some cashews!!
  24. I feel your pain! At 4 weeks post op, I have been loosing the same 1lb and gaining it for the past week. I fluctuate between 12 and 13 lost. Using the word Gain is painful post op. Especially because I'm well under 100 calories daily with my highest by far yet of 800 being yesterday, but every other day has been between zero and 600. So your mind is like WOW, I am eating SO much less than I ever did before and for so long, I should have melted twice over by now. I guess it brings into light how much we were overeating before and how our body really did not need all that food we thought we needed. It is definitely an emotional journey. Time seems to stand still when you are on those scales and they have not moved. I've started work again so trying to keep my mind preoccupied with that, but ofcourse in the back of your mind, you can't help but think...will this work for me...am I the freak for whom this will not work? And without food to comfort us which was our go to thing before, it can become quite intolerable waiting for the scales to move : /
  25. How long did your 3 week stall last? Hi folks, so I'm going on day 6 of my Stall. that started smack between week 3 and 4. I know about them, I've read about them, so I don't want to get hang up on them as I know it causes angst, depression and anxiety, and who needs that right? So I'm mentally working on embracing the stall and pushing through it as part of the process without resentment, cuz the way I see it...I have to stick to the plan either way. I can either make the journey happy, or miserable if I become a Scale Slave. But knowleage is power and I find myself in need of some power, so wondering how long your 3 week stalls lasted, and if you are still in the middle of your stall, how are you getting through it mentally?
