  1. I am scheduled with Dr Illan on Aug. 23rd. I am doing it thru BariatricPal Team MX. I am about a 3 hour drive from San Diego which is why i was coming down the night before. Unfortunately my husaband cant get off work and my mother is way too frail to travel.

Cool! I'm going thru BP too. I'm almost certain they have a few people scheduled for that day. You may travel alone but you won't be alone :)

  2. As it turns out, I dont think my husband can make the trip to Tijuana with me so it looks as though I will be going by myself. I live outside of LA so will probably just take the train to San Diego cuz its probably not wise to drive home medicated! I guess I will stay by the airport the night before and just take a taxi to the pick up spot in the morning. Anyone else go down there by themselves?? I'm not at all worried about the care i will receive or even being solo in Mexico (LA is probably worse! Lol)...its just scary having surgery alone and far from home.

When are you going? I'll be there on the 23rd...buT most likely not the same Dr. It's funny how we think we'll be there alone and meet so many people there!

  3. OMG Theresa... I'm sickened to hear about what happened to you! You are so very brave in sharing your story with the world. Women need to know the hardcore possibilities of traveling alone to Mexico for surgery. Sexual assault must also be a real risk. I sincerely pray for your health and that justice is served. Spread the word! I'm taking my sister up on the offer to go with me. God bless you, friend <3

  4. I'm from CT and because of my work schedule I don't want an extended stay. 3 days sounds great, 4 at the most. After the leak tested are completed I'll be more than ready to get back to work.

I'm confident Dr A can make that happen. My consultation went very well yesterday. Dr A knows his stuff. He reassured me (and my sister lol) that he would take care of me and as my surgeon make the best decision for me between bypass and sleeve. He even explained the mini gastric bypass to me as well so I can look into it and make an informed decision. Very knowledgeable and very nice. I'm ready to schedule at a few more questions.

  5. You bring up a valid point @danki. Its not a light surgery or a process where details don't matter. I've done my research and prayed along the way. My concern is recovering at the Recovery Condo as opposed to a hospital. That's why Dr. Hidalgo is also an option in Puerto Vallarta. Please keep the thread updated when u choose who you're settled on. It will help us all here :)

  6. Hi Jodi! Great to meet you. I'm just starting out too.

I worked as a precert coordinator at Cigna so I kinda know the ropes on the inside....that's why I'm skipping Cigna and going to Mexico for my bypass (but that's another story).

    All I can say is

    1. Make sure is covered in your plan.

    2. Follow the prerequisites to a T. Specialists, bloodwork, etc.

    3. Check and recheck to make sure that your documents reached where they are supposed togo. Confirm fax #s, etc. Call frequently to be sure.

    4. Be patient. Clinical review can take some time- more time for some, not for others.

    5. If for some reason you are denied, don't quit. Obtain a letter of medical necessityand try again.

Hope this helps. I'm not a Cigna insurance guru- I just know a little about the process and I'm opting to skip the hassle.

    Best wishes :)
