I tried to go into the conversation with the attitude of knowing he wouldn't like the idea because he'd see it as the most dangerous option but trying to make sure he understood I felt like I had exercised all other reasonable options and it was a choice between struggle and fail forever or do this and succeed. Which is exactly how I DID feel!!

You might be surprised. I expected my husband to be extremely opposed to the idea, since when he gains weight it comes right off with a few weeks of tough workouts and one less beer but he said he's he wished that wasn't the only option for me but understands why it seemed like it is, given my experience. They see us struggle, I think they can be more understanding than expected! I'm sorry you've had a bad experience here, we're on your side!!

I was sleeved 10 days ago at bmi 32 and already am SO grateful I did it! 13 lbs down already and recovery has been very manageable. Glad we have this group going!
  5. yes!! i have a bad taste in my mouth, especially when i wake up, and my teeth feel a little... fuzzy. AND my husband says my breathe is horrible!! Apparently the breathe is from the ketosis from the very low carbs, maybe the rest is too?
  6. on Saturday night I could NOT stop crying. The food separation is hard but honestly I think a lot of it is hormonal. Just remind yourself that your hormones and body are out of whack, so what you're feeling isn't really real!! That's helped me, anyways. For the most part I feel good, yesterday was the first day I was really up and about outside and it was good, although did make me a little sore and tired. First day back at the office is tomorrow, hopefully I don't fall asleep at my desk!
  7. i'm amazed of you mamas going through this - everything exhausts me too (just a walk around the block or a couple hours of work at the computer!). I cannot imagine being up and about caring for little ones. you're rock stars! but totally agree you have to listen to your body, it telling you it needs you to slow down so it can stockpile the energy where it needs!

  9. Agreed!! Can't believe you can have turkey already!! I'm on clear liquids and proteins for two weeks then yogurt, applesauce, etc. Definitely a ways away from "real food"!
  10. What kind of pain? Sharp or sore? Taking any gas-x?
  11. I was very miserable yesterday, today is better! About to be discharged! Hope you feel better soon too.
  12. I can't believe you guys are home already?!? I'm here at least tonight and likely tomorrow night for hydration!
  13. I was 7:30 this morning! Have had some decent gas pain, it's mysteriously radiated to my back now, but for the most part feel pretty good! Napping on and off and walking every hour!
  14. Thanks for the note, my surgery is TOMORROW with Dr Fitzer so great to hear from you!!
  15. Haha I meant from the anesthesia!! I think it will definitely take some heavy drugs to knock me out in the next 24 hours ????
  16. Tomorrow 7:30 am!!! So excited and ready for it to be behind me and to move forward to a healthy life!! I wonder what time I'll wake up...
  17. How's everyone feeling on the first day on the other side?!?
  18. Please check in when you all can! I'm 10/19 and I know I'll get super nervous as the day approaches, it'd be great to hear from those immediately on the other side!

    BMI 31-32

Thanks for the updates everyone, I'm BMI 31 getting sleeved 10/19! Eeeek!
  20. apologies for re-posting this, but I think I posted it in the wrong forum initially Hi everyone, first time poster here! I am scheduled for a gastric sleeve on 10/19. I am currently 184 lbs, 5'4, bmi 31. After I first met with the surgeon and scheduled the surgery I was very sure this was the right thing to do. I have battled my weight for almost 10 years (I'm 30) and have tried every diet and drug under the sun with no success. My only success has ever come from a combination of medically supervised protein-sparing diet combined with phentermine. But even that 30 lb loss came back on pretty quickly. Now I'm starting to question this choice. It just seems so completely elective -- I'm healthy and young, I even completed a triathlon this weekend! But the choice goes beyond vanity, I struggle with significant depression that I never dealt with prior to the weight gain, I feel constantly exhausted (possibly from sleep apnea) and just generally feel that I'm living my life in someone else's body under a cloud of failure. I'd love to hear from others who had the surgery at a low BMI - are you happy with your choice? I'd especially love to hear from anyone who went on to have healthy pregnancies afterwards, the concern about pregnancy at my current weight has led me to hold off on having kids! Any other thoughts would be much appreciated, I do think this is the right choice for me but I struggle with feeling selfish to put my loved ones through the stress of worrying about the outcome when I'm not facing an immediate health crisis. And God forbid something happened, I wouldn't blame them for hating me for putting them through that.

Thank you, thank you!! Totally agree about the now or never thing. If I'm honest with myself I know if I don't do it now I'll be wanting to at 250 and who knows if I'll be able to time-wise, health-wise, financially, etc. Great to hear you're feeling good about the decision even so soon out. This forum is really keeping my spirits up and helping me sleep!! Thanks everyone.

Well said - I believe I could lose the weight without the surgery, but I don't believe I could keep it off. So sorry things aren't breaking your way but congrats on making getting back on track a priority. That's huge in and of itself. You can do it!!!

Joannaharris77 congrats! awesome progress, it honestly does help to see that the pay-off won't just be permanent, it'll be FAST! I've read a lot about the feelings of regret the first few weeks, so i'm steeling myself for that!

maileijulia - let's stay in touch! i understand how people can feel like its the easy way out, but those of us who have done the research know its just an assistant to all the hard work that's still to come. only you know what is realistic in terms of getting healthy, and some people definitely just seem to have it harder than others when it comes to weight loss! when do you start your pre-op diet? Mine's only three days so a week from tomorrow I say goodbye to food for awhile
