  1. Got released from the hospital on day 1, my friend picked me up and I went and stayed at her house. On the way there we stopped to get the pain script filled and that was an ordeal and a half - we went to 7 different pharmacies trying to get this thing filled, finally ended up calling the doctor and asking him to call in something else since no one had hydrocodone. After driving around and going in and out of pharmacies she thought I would get to the house and crash, but instead I got a bottle of Water and sat on the couch with them watching tv. Day 2 I kind of lounged around a bit, got a shower and into some comfy clothes, watched a movie and napped and then later that evening I drove myself home since I really hadn't had any pain meds and didn't really need them. Day 3 was a Monday and I ended up working from home the whole day. The biggest issue I had was that I didn't move around enough and I got a little bit stiff from sitting. The longer I sat somewhere the harder it was to get up the next time. Day 4 was pretty much a repeat of Day 3, worked from home but set things aside and walked around a little more so I wasn't so stiff, even walked on the treadmill for like 10 minutes at a very very slow speed. By Day 6 I was back at work full time. I was pretty lucky though, I have very little pain, no nausea, no complications my biggest problem I had was being able to get in and out of bed because my right side was sore. I finally learned to slowly roll over on my left side and basically do a push up off the night stand, that took the pressure off of my abs

    2 wks post op

ugh, I know what you are saying. I am also 2 weeks post op and today was the worst for me. My boss wanted to take everyone to lunch and he has a couple of favorite places that both serve Soup so I thought I would be ok, but of course we go to an Italian restaurant and I was totally trying to figure out what in the heck was on the menu I could have. They had soup but it was some kind of seafood something that sounded nasty....so, I ordered a chicken parm sandwhich thinking I could just eat some of the meat out of the bread since I knew Pasta wasn't going to work at all - boy was I wrong. This was the first time I got something that I just couldn't do - had to leave the table and head for the ladies room! I ended up kind of just sipping on the Water I ordered and decided to work on Fluid intake instead of food!

    Drinking alcohol

I graduated with my Master's degree last weekend and I celebrated with a small glass of red wine. I had my surgery on 12/4 so I was actually only a week out. Now, don't get me wrong; I sipped on that glass for the better part of 3 hours but eventually I drank it.
  4. My best friend went with me, I drove to her house and we left in her car for the hospital. She sat with me until I got out of surgery and was in the room with me when they brought me in. She got me situated, made sure I was asleep and then left. I texted her the next day when it was about time for me to be released and she came back and got me. I spent that night at her house and drove myself home the next day. She had gastric bypass with the same surgeon 5 years ago so she had a lot of wisdom on what I would need which was great.

    Post-op pain

I agree with you on the laying flat part. I didn't have any gas pain at all and was up and walking the hospital floor about 3 hours after my operation. My issue that I have now is if I walk around alot my right side kills me. I went to the mall today after lunch to pick up a gift and of course ended up parking on the opposite side of the mall from the store I wanted to go to - thought I would DIE before I got my errand ran and got back to my car. I ended up stopping at nearly every bench along the way to rest a couple of minutes. I got home and curled up under my electric blanket for about 20 minutes and felt way better. I have also noticed that my back hurts alot and I think it is because I am not standing up straight. Anyone noticing this???

    Protein Shakes

I was having a bit of a hard time with the shakes being too thick too. One of the things I did yesterday was to blend the shake in the blender early in the day and then let it sit for a bit before I drank it. That killed some of the frothiness in it which made it better. I got the Isopure drinks today like so many have suggested, I got a green tea with lemon which to me tastes like my normal sweet tea I used to have so I am good with it, but I can see where alot of people would find it too sweet.

    No energy

What kind of Protein are you taking in? I went today to get some more Protein powder so I explained to the guy at the nutrition store that I needed to get more bang for my buck on protein. I takes me so long to drink my shake that I am having a hard time getting everything in. This guy told me that all protein is not the same and that I need a protein that digests slowly so that I feel fuller longer which also gives me more energy. He sold me PE Science Select which is a blended protein powder and he also recommended Lean Body which is a pre-mixed drink that has 40 grams of protein in a 17 ounce bottle. I am only 5 days post op so I am not having many issues with being tired. I took a nap on Sunday, the first day I was out of the hospital and after that I have been on my regular schedule. Prior to getting this protein I was using a combination of Shakeology by BeachBody (because I had some in the cabinet) and the Advocare Protein Drink (same thing, left in the cabinet from some other diet attempt) Maybe check with a local nutrition store and see if they can recommend something else for you that might help.
  10. I have Hypothyroid and take Levoxy. I was sleeved on 12/4 and am down 10 pounds as of this morning, don't worry, you got this!!!
  11. My friend who went with me to the hospital. We sat in the room waiting for the surgeon for so long and she was starving so she finally went to the cafeteria and got herself some lunch. Naturally as soon as she started eating they came in to do some of my stuff. Those two nurses could not believe that my friend would eat in front of me and they were totally dogging her....it was pretty funny to me
  12. I told people that I was having my gall bladder removed. It just happened to work out that when I did my pre-op visit they found that I already had gall stones so my doctor suggested that we take it out. That meant that I was not really telling a lie.
  13. What kind of protein??
  14. I kind of did what you did. I am not a big jello fan so I skipped most of the jello. I have orange and cherry and something else. One thing that my friend did for me was to buy me a bunch of packages of Ramen Noodles. Make the flavor packet with some Water and throw the noodles out since you can't have them. There is a multitude of flavors that way and that stuff is cheap.
  15. that is an awesome idea, I wish I had done that, instead I just keep warming mine in the microwave

    Sugar free slurpe 711

good to know - I don't care for popsicles, so I would be into this....I also thought about taking the shaved ice out of my fridge and using some sugar free snow cone flavors or even some mio. I figure if I am getting a popsicle I will have to put it in a cup and let it melt before I try to do anything with it.
  17. I got my sleeve done on 12/4. Today I got 20 ounces of Water in plus a little bit of decaf coffee at Breakfast. I am still on Clear liquids with some Jello. I had a cup of broth at lunch and my friend made chicken tortilla Soup for her family for dinner so she made me a cup that she had strained all the veggies and meat out of for me. I feel really good - I got up and walked around about 6 hours after my procedure and as long as my iv was unplugged from the wall I was making laps around the hospital. I did get a nap in today and of course here it is almost 11 at night and I am wide awake. I took most of this next week off, I have been told that the real pain in the incisions starts between day three and day four - oh yipppeeee
  18. I had my surgery on 12/4, I am feeling great! I was walking the halls at the hospital by Friday night and made several rounds on 12/5 before I got released. I haven't had any gas to speak of, just a few burps here and there. I managed a few sips of broth from trays they brought me, but not a lot. The chicken broth made me kind of nauseous but the beef broth was fine. Good luck to you guys that haven't gone yet and hope everyone who has is recovering nicely. I am off to sip some water with lemon aid crystal light!!
  19. Thanks for the info Remix. I am flying to Florida a week after my surgery and I was wondering what that was going to be like. I will make sure to get some of the powdered electrolytes you mentioned and carry a pillow if I think I need it.
  20. Not sure if it will help you, but the last time I thought I was getting sick like that I bought some of that Zycam stuff and used the Emergen C and I was better in no time
  21. well, I have two co-workers that have had surgery with the same surgeon that I saw. Me and one lady had to have one visit with the NUT and a BMI of over 40; our other co-worker had to have 6 visits with the NUT and a BMI of over 40. When they weighed me I didn't think my BMI was high enough so I was quite surprised to find out I was approved. I actually spoke to two different surgeons before I made my choice and the other surgeon told me in no uncertain terms that I needed a sleep study (at a cost of $900 out of my pocket). I was prepared to go to Mexico early next year and now I am having surgery with the doctor I was interested in originally. I still have no clue how all three of us have the same doctor and the same insurance but don't necessarily have the same requirements.

good luck!!! I got approved pretty fast in my opinion and I didn't have any co-morbidity issues, I hope the same holds true for you!

    Losing a best friend

My bestie had gastric bypass surgery 3 years ago. We were good for the first few months while she was still losing, but once she got pretty close to her goal weight she started talking about "oh, I am getting fat again" and saying things about how big she was, which totally ticked me off so I will be honest, I would go for a bit without being around her because that just made me feel even bigger! I got over it each time and we still hang out but it hurt my feelings when she would say things like that. Mind you, I didn't have a problem with her talking about her surgery or how she had to eat now or anything like that, it was the talk about how fat she was when she is clearly wearing a MUCH smaller size than me. Now that I am having surgery she was the first person to jump up and down with me, cheer for me, make sure that I know to get all my Vitamins and things bought, where to go buy them, what I should and should not try to eat and is even taking off the day of my surgery so I have someone there.....couldn't ask for more!
  24. Good to know rking. I am having my surgery on 12/4 and I plan to be back in the office on 12/10 but only because that is our company Christmas party so I won't really be doing anything. The day will consist of 1/2 a day or work, off to the restaurant for the party and then we are dismissed right after that for the rest of the day. I think I can handle 1/2 a day

I had to wait on approval because my BMI was borderline. I needed a 40 to be approved no questions asked, I knew mine was lower than that and I don't have any major co-morbidities. Not sure how my doc made it happen but he did!!!
