  1. I agree with Inner Surfer Girl here. She should reach out to her NUT to see if she can find a diet that would help her lost more. I find that eating more protein helps. I'm super sorry that your wife has to deal with this. When I started my program I was 342.7 pounds. Before my first meeting with the surgery I lost 15 pounds. He was very happy with that and told me that I didn't need to meet a weight requirement. He did tell me that the only time he makes a person lose a lot of weight is if they have a super high BMI. The larger you are the more weight they require for you to lose. He told me that at the most it's 10% of your body weight. Your wife is so close. I would maybe try going through another Bariatric program. Without knowing all of your wife's stats I can't tell you if the surgeon is just being a jerk about it. It's a disease. He should want to help. Wishing you all the best!

I don't have my date as of yet. I have two more appointments before I will get my date. It's looking like sometime in October though. I have my medical clearance appointment on 9/28, and then my re-evaluation appointment with the surgeon on 10/9. If I have not gained any weight and I'm cleared from a medical standpoint I'll get my date that day. I don't weigh myself at all. The only times I weigh is when I'm in the hospital. For me I take the stress away when I don't weigh. I can pretty much tell when I've gained weight or when I'm losing. SO I know I'll be good. As long as I'm still at minimum 325.1 when I weigh in I'm good. I'm sure I've lost some since because I'm working out and I haven't back slide on my eating.

    Psych Evaluation

My psych evaluation was very short but intense. He asked lots of questions pertaining to why I wanted the surgery, what I loved and hated abut myself, family history, he asked about tragedies that may have happened throughout life. It was very intense. You never want to go into the evaluation telling them you want surgery just to look good. There has to be a more sensible reason like you want to live a healthy life for your children and be around to watch them grow up. I never mentioned my looks not even once. Good luck! She's so right here! Let them know that you've dealt with weight your entire life and that you've tried all the diets and have been successful but that you can't keep the weight off. I'm not sure if you have any other health related issues like High Blood Pressure or anything. But, for me it's all about health and feeling better. I never mentioned how I want to wear that perfect outfit or become one of those TOOLS we see out there on the beach. Telling them you want to be skinny and look good would def be a red flag.

    Psych Evaluation

Also let me add this. I was cleared from a mental health stand point after the meeting. I had time like 5 years ago when I was going through a super depressed period in my life and I checked myself into a mental hospital due to stress and I told them about this and how I followed up with a mental health doctor after my time at this place and they didn't find that it was an issue because now I'm in a super good place with stress management. I was honest about it and they didn't use that against me. Also, in the program I am in for the Bariatric surgery they recommended that I attend some support group meeting or join an online support group (so I joined here) and that's helped a lot. I have a friend that went through the process as well. She's diagnosed as clinically depressed and take an anti-depressant. She didn't pass her evaluation. The doctor wanted to see her two more times before deciding to pass her only cause she's not actively seeing a shrink! So you'll be fine.

    Psych Evaluation

Hey there, Basically during this Psych Evaluation they try and make sure that you don't have any signs or background of any mental health and if you do they want to make sure that you're actively seeing someone to talk about any issues that you may be going through. The questions that they ask aren't driven towards how are things are home (in your marriage). It's mainly they want to know if you have a support person that will be in place to help you along the way. They will also want to know what plans you have in place now, and after the surgery once you go through any obstacles. Just be honest during this evaluation. If you have seen a mental health doctor at any time just tell them because if you have seen a mental health doctor through the same hospital they will know about this and will want to know why this wasn't brought to their attention. Work your program. They will mainly ask you things about how you are feeling going through this process and ask you questions on how long you've been overweight and they will ask you what type of eater you are and will ask you about trigger foods that will be an issue for you now and going forward. If you have no issues with mental help and you have a solid plan on how you plan to cope with any issues you'll be fine. They also make you take this test where they test your memory and stuff like that. It's pretty smooth sailing. You really don't have to talk about your issues at home. You'll be fine! Good luck!

Hey there, I was thinking because you're so close to your date you should just go ahead and start your diet now. The reason I say this is because of the liver. My surgeon told me that all of us (overweight people) all have fatty livers due to our weight and that once they go inside they will be able to tell if we've been doing right (eating well). You want to try your best not to have any complications. So I would start now. if you lose weight before the surgery the better you heal and the better chances you'll come through the surgery with no issues. So start now! I'm still in the pre-op stage as well but you're so close don't black slide. I would stay away from all the badness at this point and just jump on the horse and start riding! Luck!
  7. Hey there Buddy! I think it's pretty normal to have all the thoughts that you're having as this is a major surgery and change for our lives. You should really search around on this board and try and read as much stuff as you can. I was having the same thoughts as you as I've been in my process for about 3 years trying to decide if I really want to have this surgery. Let me tell you my friend- This will probably be the biggest and best thing we all will ever do. I have other issues that started that made my decision a no-brainer. I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and I'm borderline type II diabetic. I don't know about you but all of those are things that can kill you. I'm not trying to go out like that. I'm getting this surgery mainly due to my health issues. Being smaller would be great although that's not my main goal. I'm bigger than you at this point. I'm 5'8 and I'm now at 325 but I started out at 342. Trust me when I say this, rid yourself of all the things that hold you back because of your weight. Yes, there are risks but try and focus on the reward! We're all here to help. Stay on the site and let us all help you get to where you wanna be!
  8. Wishing you the best charlotteweb. I would never try and tell a person how they should feel and I know you're scared. But, try and look at this as a new beginning. We have all wanted this soooo bad. You're close and almost there! Don't let anything stop you!
  9. For me I don't have to worry about what people think when I'm walking somewhere with my wife. She's not overweight. When we're together I know people look at us and say "why is she with him". It would be good to not have to wonder what people think regarding that. To comicbookguy- those girls u dated SUCKED for the record. Keep your head up bro.
  10. The obsession is normal. We all want this for ourselves so bad. Personally I eat sleep and day dream about this whole process all the time. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield. They require 6 consecutive months of supervised diet. However, I just found out from them they they will waive this requirement if your BMI is over 50 at your initial weigh in through whatever Bariatrtic program u enter. So my diet was waived because I was over the 50 BMI. We have to pass a mental health assessment, meet with a excersize physician, NUT and meet any weight lost requirements made by the surgeon. I'm home free on all accounts. I just have two more appointments I have to get through. A medical clearance appointment on 9/28, and my reevaluation appointment with my surgeon on 10/9. If I'm cleared on those and have gained no weight I'll get my surgery date. The insurance specalist told me my process would be much smoother due to me having the diet waived. Just make sure you save any and all weights you've done and all communication from the Bariatrtic people. Wish u the best of luck.

6 Days to lose 10 pounds

This sucks. I'm super sorry to hear about that. I lost 15 pounds before I met my surgeon. He noticed my weight lost and told me I didn't need to meet a weight lost requirement prior to surgery. All I need to do is NOT gain any weight. Wish u the best of luck.
  13. I'm not in my 20s. However, if I was having all of the health related issues I have now in my 20s it would've been a no-brainer. Good luck to you on your journey.
