  1. I wish we had a clothing exchange with our local support group. It seems it's a shame we just drop it off at Goodwill.

I know! I was so grateful to receive clothing because it seems senseless to buy stuff that you can only wear for a short time. Even buying at second hand stores gets expensive.

  2. I had some clothing passed on to me to which I am paying it forward. There are 5 huge garbage bags full, some are new with tags, some very gently worn, and very little is starting to show slight wear. They range in sizes from 16-24! Must take all. I am located in the York area, willing to meet for pick up. All I ask is that we continue paying it forward. Clothing is so expensive, especially when we're in limbo and changing sizes so often. You can private message me or leave a response here.

Have a great day, and stay safe in the snow!

Just had a follow up visit today and he said I was right on track. I don't have to go back until January, 5th now. That made me happy. I'm struggling with eating because I'm never hungry and have to remind myself to eat. I am doing pretty well at getting at least 70g of Protein because I drink a premier Protein shake (30g) each morning at work. The other day I had a small amount of meatloaf and it was so good, so the next day I tried leftovers and puked right after... What is awesome one day is not so much another day. Another thing I can't seem to stomach is tuna. The only craving I have is for salty & crunchy, and thank heavens for Quest Protein chips (salt & vinegar)!!!

  4. Oh what an awesome question!!

    1. Fitting in any seat I want to sit in (whether it be at the movies, airplane, etc).

    2. Getting back on roller coasters and other rides.

    3. Zip lining on the next cruise.

    4. Skydiving

    5. Playing with my two five year olds without hurting or getting tired.

    6. Scuba

    7. Shopping in regular sizes

    8. Wearing boots that fit my calves.

    9. So many more things!!

  5. Are you sure you should be eating fast foods? I hope that it was not your nutritionist who recommended these foods. Try to puree some of these foods; cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, Beans, canned meats, and canned fish as in tuna.< /p>

Are you sure you should be eating fast foods? I hope that it was not your nutritionist who recommended these foods. Try to puree some of these foods; cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, Beans, canned meats, and canned fish as in tuna.

The recommendation was from other post-op people, however the nutritionist also agreed that they are an ok choice now and then. Whenever this was brought up, I thought, "WTF? You're telling a fat woman who is having a gastric bypass to go to a fast food restaurant!?" However, after looking up the nutritional value of each, they aren't bad choices. People need to understand that there are decent choices for food pretty much everywhere, you just have to do your research. As a mom of 2 five year olds, a wife, and a full time RN, my life can get pretty crazy and busy. I'm not banning food in my household, and I know that I can make better choices than I did before my surgery.

In case people are wondering values for the chili and the pintos & cheddar, I will list them here. They are also available on the websites as well in my fitness pal app which I use for everything that goes in my mouth.

The pintos & cheddar from Taco Bell is a side dish on the menu and the only thing I would order there since having surgery. Calories 190, 7g fat (not great, but not awful either) 6g Fiber, 1g sugar and 11g of Protein for the container.

The chili lasts for several meals, at least 3 at 2-3oz each. For a 3oz serving it has 64 calories, 1.9g fat, 1.5g Fiber, 2.2g sugar and 5.6 Protein. To increase protein a bit of shredded fat free cheese can be added as well as some unflavored Protein powder.

Like I said, it's important to do your research before just ordering, but there are decent choices in many places you might not expect. Is it a daily meal, absolutely not, but it definitely gives options when you're out and about.

  6. I stopped at Taco Bell on the way home from my first post-op follow-up appointment and got Pintos & cheese. They are still one of my go to's when I am out and about.

Could you eat them just how they come or did you have to go home and blend?

Yup, they're basically refried Beans with shredded cheddar and hot sauce. No need to blend, and I really didn't have to fork mash either.

  7. I am finally advanced to the purée stage and none too soon! I was getting so tired of liquids. It's not that I'm hungry, but just that I was bored with the small rotation of full liquids. So far by recommendations I have tried blenderized Wendy's chili, just 2oz and Taco Bell pintos & cheese. When these were first recommended to me I was a little shocked, but having looked up nutrition values, they aren't too bad. Not only that, but they taste AMAZING! This is what my taste buds have been missing!! So far I am doing well with no bad reactions from the step up. I'm really hoping that having some real food Eli's my energy levels too.

  8. Even walking didn't help me fully, and I was walking a lot. The GasX strips helped in conjunction with moving. Everyone is different and what works for one doesn't for another. I personally took them upon recommendation from my surgeon and others who have had the surgery. As a result, I recommend them as well. Good luck :-)

  9. Unjury has been my favorite post-op! I make them in my nutrition-bullet rx with 8 oz of FairLife 2% milk and some ice to make it milkshake like. Both the vanilla and the chocolate splendor have been my fave so far. I'm going to try a tsp of creamy Peanut Butter in my chocolate splendor tonight. I tried the unflavored in cream of broccoli Soup last night and almost vomited! I made sure the temp was below 140* and it was still gritty and clumped....never again! The chicken soup Unjury is also good!

  10. @ I really liked that idea about Old Bay seasoning, I use it with chicken broth myself and it is wonderful. I also really love miso Soup, so I make a packet of that and strain out all of the seaweed and tofu.

Vitamin Water Zero and Crystal Light fruit Punch are my go-to drinks, SF popsicles and SF Jello are my Desserts.< /p>

    Tom.

Thanks. I'm a Maryland girl, Old Bay goes on everything! I haven't tried Vitamin Water yet. Before surgery I drank a lot of Tangerine Mango Crystal Light, but since surgery, crystal light lemonade has been my go to. I find myself wanting sour and bolder favors.

  11. That was a really blunt way to get your reaction. During my psych visit for surgery, he said very close to the same thing to me. My response to him was that yes, death could occur from surgery, but I also felt that if I continued on the path I was on, death was on the table anyway. I guess my take on it was that I'm going to die at some point anyway, and I'd rather do this and try to prolong my chances and be healthy in doing so. These psychologists and psychiatrists have seen so many of us going through the process of WLS that I'm sure they all have their own twist on reaction getting questions. I'm not condoning it, but as a healthcare professional, I also see the reason.

Ultimately, the choice has to be yours and yours alone. Good luck :-)

  12. I'm an administrative nurse and begged my surgeon to let me go back at 2 weeks. He said he would see how I was doing and think about it but he really preferred that I stay out for at least 3 weeks. When I saw him for my 1 week f/u, he states that even though I'm doing great, he will not sign off for me to go back until three weeks. He said that he has done a lot of surgeries and he is not comfortable with people returning too early and he finds that 3 weeks is the good minimum. That's just his thoughts on the matter.

  13. I had my one week f/u with the surgeon today and got the green light to move on to full liquids. My BP was through the roof, but I realized I have forgotten to take my metoprolol since getting home (oops). He said that the pain should continue to reduce over the next couple of weeks and otherwise everything looks good. I've lost 6lbs since surgery last Monday which makes me so happy! He told me to move forward with full liquids too. In anticipation of my appointment I had an Isopure this morning and then for dinner tonight a Protein Shake so I actually got 60g in today with no nausea! I was worried about nausea after reading some of the posts when people added their Protein in at first. Anyway, thanks for letting me share my first small victory.

  14. I'm an RN, I will tell you that the majority of surgeons are moving away from LAP Bands because there are so many complications from them. You should not have a problem with RA and having a gastric sleeve or bypass. The surgeon will work with you and make suggestions based on your health, PMH, etc. good luck with whatever you decide. This site has been fantastic and full of knowledge and I have no doubts you will find what you're looking for here.

  15. I can't even get in my Protein now I get full way to soon, I am only week two of post op so I can't have any real meat and basically my only real good source of Protein is my shake and my nutritionist said I need 60 to 70g and that would be 3 shakes per day and no way I can do that!

Have you tried Isopure? They have some good favors, sip on it through the day, 40g protein in the bottle. Also powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, they have un-flavored that you could mix into yogurt or creamed Soup.

    Good luck!

  16. My nutritionist said not to worry about Protein the first week unless I wanted it. She said many people can only handle the Clear Liquids and even though Isopure is considered a clear she said that the protein could cause fullness/nausea. They advised that I get as close to 60oz/day or more. I wasn't able to hit more than 40 for the first several days (I'm 6 days post). I think it wasn't until yesterday that I got to close to 70 and the same again today. Maybe try just clears with no protein for a day or two?
