Be very careful not to disqualify yourself. Depending on your insurance they will tell you to lose weight, but if you drop your bmi too low, they'll use it against you saying you can do it on your own. Good luck!

Hi. I've had to go through this twice because my sleep study came back negative. I have original Medicare and the requirements are a bmi of 35 or more with at least 1 commodity. You have to have a 6 month supervised diet a whole bunch of blood tests, ekg, chest x ray, psychological evaluation, and letter of recommendation from your pcp. You also have to attend the nutrition class. I am now done with everything except 1 more diet visit in august and attend the nutrition class again next week and have another consult with the surgeon. Hoping I get this done soon. Good luck with yours.

Mine did not go so well. I was honest. I take meds for depression and anxiety. Even though I was well prepared, she denied me because she felt I needed more counseling. I took the next two months talking to my psychologist about helping me change her mind. He had me do a 1 month chart of my mood and anxiety levels. Said he thought I could handle it and talked to her on my behalf. Now I have to go see her on Jan 13 for a short reevaluation to get my approval and you can bet I will be watching everything I say to her. It's my life and it will solve more problems than it could ever create in my case. I agree with not revealing too much. But be honest enough they don't question your integrity. Good luck.

Hi there! Wow, ten days out and already down 14lbs! You're doing awesome! Look forward to talking with ya! Keep up the good work! :-)

Hi, I'm 5'11" hw 290, cw 282. I was 140lbs when I married at age 21. Very skinny. I have had to take Vitamin D for the last 3 months to get my levels right before surgery. I get a reevaluation from my psych on Jan 13th and hopefully schedule surgery soon after. My goal weight is 160lbs. My surgeon hasn't given me his goal yet. I'm so looking forward to being able to breath again. You all are great inspirations! Keep up the good work and hopefully I'll be joining you all again soon!

Just do everything your doctor tells you to do pre op. The anesthesia is fast to kick in and you'll sleep wonderfully. I have had other surgeries and have never had a problem, but I'm still waiting on my sleeve surgery date. Wish you all the best. Keep us updated.

Super depressed today. I was supposed to have my psych eval this morning and they cancelled. Next available appointment isn't until October 21st! I'm trying to find another doctor but nobody will take my insurance. So sad. :-(

You look incredible! I hope my surgery helps me as much. I wouldn't let people's opinions get to you. Everybody has one and they generally aren't trying to be mean but sometimes it comes out that way. Keep on track, you are doing amazing. Keep me posted as I'm pre op I'm soaking up all the information I can.

You can do it sweetie! Just keep your goals in mind. Don't let the pressure to eat with everyone else get to you. I believe in you, believe in yourself. Hugs!

I'm super excited and love reading everyone's posts! Keep em coming! I'm soaking up the info! Lol

I took it for 9 months. Lost 40 lbs in 4 months and then the effectiveness wore off. I stopped taking it and regained the 40 plus 5 in just 3 months. It honestly wasn't worth it to me because all it did was fuel my depression after regaining the weight. Please be careful.

I haven't told anyone yet either. My parents would worry about the surgery, my dad especially, he almost wore out the carpet in the waiting room when I had my children via c-section. Lol. My husband is super supportive and couldn't be happier for me because he knows I've been struggling and miserable for the last 8 years. I am 5'11" and currently 282 lbs, bmi 38.8. I have sleep apnea and on the verge of hbp. I have more blood work and my psych eval to do next week and hopefully the insurance will approve me. I'm super excited to be healthy again and am looking forward to a new me with the new year. Good luck to all, because we all deserve to be healthy and happy!

I'm not afraid of not waking up, I've had anesthesia before. The Hair loss issue I can deal with, make it fun, there are lots of colorful cheap wigs on Amazon. Just be a spunky new you, lol. My fear is that I will not be able to stay on the diet regimen. Being skinny is not new to me, i was skinny until I had my second child and I gained a lot of weight due to having a rough pregnancy, no exercise, and then I couldn't lose the weight after he was born. Just kept gaining. I am hoping that the last 8 years being heavy has taught me to be kind to people once I am skinny again as I've had several people treat me poorly at this weight, even scoff and not believe the pictures of me when I was younger. People can be so cruel.

I am pre-op as well. I haven't told anybody yet about having surgery. I do not want yhem to influence me. This is a very personal choice. I will tell my immediate family when I find out my surgery date, but until then, my husband is my support along with all of you fine people on here. Don't let anyone deter you from your goals, this is to help you get healthy.

Glad you have found counselors that may be able to help. Good luck! :-)

I invited you both via email! Let me know if it works! Introduce yourselves once you get to the group so everyone can say hello We are going to close the FB group when we get to 30 or so (we're at 18 now).
Hi there! I'm new here but would love to be a part of the fb group. My surgery is tentatively October / November. My email is coyote211979@gmail.comI'm glad to see so many Fall surgery buddies! I have had a little glitch, had a shadow on my nuclear stress test from cardilogist. I only had the stress test because I have some chest aches, I don't think they do it routinely? Anyway, now I have to have a cardiac cath on 9/15 to make sure it's nothing. Apparently, it could be a shadow from big boobs - go figure!! Hoping it's nothing so I can schedule my gastro EGD right afterwards and keep my November 4 surgery date!!!
Someone from one of the Facebook boards started a Fall 2015 Sleevers Facebook board. If you're interested in joining, let me know. It's a secret group so I think I need your email address to add you.
Good luck to everyone!!!!! It's going to be a fun Fall/Winter and hopefully a skinny spring

Hi Cindy. I am on track for an October /November surgery and am in Huntington WV. Not too far from bowling green, lol. I am super excited. Feel free to chat if you like.I'm on track right now for late October / early November. My surgeon will be Dr. Nwanguma, at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. I'm new to the forum...first time posting in fact! I'd love to have someone to talk to that's going through this at the same time.

Hi, I'm new here, waiting for my psych eval to get approval for surgery and came across this post. I am wondering if maybe your wife could be bisexual instead of gay. She obviously loves you. I feel for you and hope you figure everything out. I myself am bisexual and I love my husband dearly though there are desires he cannot fulfill. I am happy with him but occasionally there needs to be more. We have come to an agreement that works for us. I will not bother you with details. Just know there are lots of people in this situation. Maybe you both can have a long talk and feel better. Hugs to you and your wife. Feel free to message me if either of you want to talk.

I have original Medicare. My insurance coordinator told me not to drop below 35 bmi or I would be disqualified for surgery. I successfully maintained at 36 bmi for 2.5 months knowing that I had spent the last year jumping through hoops and I was not going to do anything to cause a denial. Good luck.
