  2. @Rose1up!

YES!! He is the best! I played tennis with Dawn for years so I met Darren a long time ago - but I never thought I'd have the money to get this done. He is great and so is Dr. Atkinson. The follow up staff at Desert Springs was great too! Dr. Atkinson is hot too lol. He came in at like 6am one morning at the hospital and i was like WTF who is this hottie?? LOL.

Best of luck to you. Keep in touch! Since we are both in Vegas we can meet up and not eat somewhere ;):)

Question for you.... will I have to do a preop diet first?

Omg... you about split my gut while I was reading your post. I worked with Soong in Surgery at Summerlin. Thats when he was doing General Surgery. He was still at Summerlin when he was making the transition to Bariatric Surgery. I knew about all thier surgeries because I also assisted the Desert Springs Bariatric Coordinator with thier reporting. I will be having my case done at Desert Springs too. Atkinson did the seminar. Im glad to have you on here for local support. I will keep you posted on my journey and let you know how my surgery goes. So glad to meet you woman!!!

  4. Here's the "two week" email from my doctor...

It is now 2 weeks since your Sleeve Gastrectomy and time to begin transitioning from the liquid phase to more solid food. Start off with foods of the consistency of scrambled eggs and cottage cheese and gradually increase to normal solids and meats and vegetables. Be aware that initially that you will likely feel full before the 4 ozs, most feel full with 1-3 ozs of solid food. This will gradually increase over this next year. Even if you cannot initially eat the full 4 ozs, I believe it is still important to weigh out with a scale or measure with a known size container a consistent 4 ozs every meal, even if you have to throw away or restore what you cannot finish. This gets you in the important habit of portioning out a known food volume rather than just eating as much as your stomach will hold. Also it trains your brain to see 4 ozs as a lot of food, whereas your brain before surgery saw 4 ozs as just a tiny amount of food. Also it teaches your brain that it is OK not to always have to finish all the food on the plate, and it is OK top stop eating even when more food is available. How much you can eat will also depend on what foods you are eating. For example, you may be able to eat 3 ozs of something soft like scrambled eggs, but only 1 ozs of something more dense like chicken, and you will have to eat chicken in smaller bites and slower than scrambled eggs. As you increase the solids you should be weaning off the Protein shakes. Most patients like doing just one Protein shake for a Breakfast Meal Replacement. If you eat a solid Breakfast you do not need to do a Protein Shake.< /p>

If you feel discomfort, pain, or acid reflux after eating it usually means you took too big a bite, ate too fast, or overfilled the Sleeve pouch. You should stop eating before you begin feeling discomfort but you will only be able to determine this if you are eating slowly and concentrating on your level of "fullness." If you are having acid reflux at night you can try over the counter Prilosec, Pepcid or Zantac. If it persists let us know and we can give you a prescription for something stronger like Protonix or Nexium.

Awesome! Dr. Soong is my surgeon too. Ive known him for years.

  5. What made me break... many things..... all things! I watched myself lose and gain then gain and gain. The more I gained the harder the loss. I played soccer for 26 yrs. If it wasnt for playing that long... I would have been the heavy girl. Through the years, my metabolism finally caught up to me. I tried so many diets and the most Ive lost is 36 lbs and that was under the supervision of a doctor. Time went on and female things occured. My heredity was still against me. I finally said Ive had enough. My back hurts, my knees crutch, my clothes are tight and going up in size. My OBGYN told me she shes how much weight Ive put on. Mind you... I dont go crazy with eating everything and anything but Im always feeling as if Im starving. I can over eat portion wise if I love something and Im a sucker for baked goods... so... with that being said, I knew.... for a fact that I needed long term help. Surgery... Weightloss surgery it is. I cant control why Im always starving and dont want to starve on diets anymore. The sleeve surgery removes that sensory in the stomach that makes us feel hungry. This is what I need! Three people in my family on my dad's side have done the other weightloss surgeries and I will be the first to have the sleeve. My consult is scheduled Nov. 12... then booking my surgery date. Ive fought the battle of my buldge for 23 years. My only thing... is I wish I did this surgery years ago!

  6. Im not booked yet but shooting for surgery date the week of Thanksgiving. Still waiting on the Surgeons office to call me for my consult. After the consult is the surgery booking. Good thing I have surgery connections in the OR and know the Surgeons. Been waiting a long time and my mind is ready for my new lifestyle change. Good luck to you all.

Surgeons are booked through November and December. My surgery will probably be in January. Bummer! This is in Las Vegas.

  8. Have narrowed my options down to the following -- all are BLIS approved, which is important as I'll be self-pay. I'll also be flying in for the surgery. Has anyone used any of these options and can share their experience?

    Western Rockies Surgical Center

    $12,500

    Blossom Bariatrics

    Las Vegas, NV

    $12,500

Center for Surgical Weight Loss at Lake Norman

    Mooresville, NC

    $13,000

    Thanks for your help!

I have never heard of Dr.Tom here in Las Vegas. Have you looked at The Surgical Weightloss Center at Dr. Atkinson and Dr. Soong? I know both Surgeons and they are excellent surgeons. Caring and compassionate with great bedside manners. I am going to them. Keep in mind its not just that amount. You will have to pay the surgeons, hospital, and Anesthesiologist. Unless its all bundled now but normally you pay all of that. If you got a quote from Blossom. .. can I ask whats covered in the $12,500?
