I had a really hard time eating eggs at one month out, had dumping from scrambled eggs. I'm now three months and a week out and I can eat boiled eggs just fine. In fact, I'm having such a hard time with meat, I eat them almost daily.

Sounds like it would be a good idea to get a second opinion. Schedule a first visit and think of it as if you are interviewing the doctor. You are the customer about to purchase a service (surgery) that will change your life forever. It would be ideal to get matched with a doctor who puts you at ease and who makes sure you understand the surgery and that you are comfortable with the choice. I wish you well.

This surgery will be one of the best decisions you ever make. You will be making a very positive and healthy lifestyle change that if you stick with it and stay determined will greatly improve your quality of life and those around you. I'm close to six months post RNY, down over 100lbs and still losing. No two people that have WLS end up with the same exact experiences, but I'm one of the many that was blessed to have an extremely easy time. No complications or extended pain from the surgery, stopped all my meds the day of surgery and have had excellent blood work and diagnosis since then. I've learned how to manage my eating habits, how to eat right and gained a ton of insight into being healthy. My biggest expense has been new clothes because I work in a profession that requires business attire, but it's one I'm happy to live with these days.
    Most important lessons I've learned:
Drink your Water and make it your go to beverage.
Get your Protein in daily and don't cheat on it.
Take it easy after surgery and follow your doctors advice on your timeline to recovery.
Find a good Vitamin and a good probiotic and take them daily.
Your taste will definitely change in terms of what you like to eat and what you can actually handle eating.
Remind yourself daily that you're still a work in progress and success depends on your commitment to eating and living heathy.
Exercise will make you lose weight faster, make you feel better and needs to be part of your plan.
Learn how to take a compliment ( you'll get plenty from those that truly love and respect you) and ignore those people that only want to bring you down.
Good luck as you move forward with your journey, lots of great folks on this site for support and advice.

Hi, I had RNY on 4/8/15, and have lost a total of 112 lbs. Day of surgery I weighed 342 and now down to 228. Although I still have about 50 lbs to get to my goal weight, I feel wonderful. I'm starting to feel like me again. I was depressed and felt disgusted with myself. I have NO REGRETS what so ever. I haven't had any complications at all. When you eat your new tummy will let you know when you've had enough. It still amazes me how full I get so fast. I actually feel like a normal person when I eat. If you follow your doctors orders and put in the work you will succeed. This is just a tool to help you, but you have to put in the work and it's hard sometimes because occasionally you still crave for things you shouldn't but you have to remember that part of your life is over. That's why it really makes me mad when someone says this is the easy way out, because it's definitely not easy. Best of luck to you, and I believe that you will be fine and a year from now you will be giving this same advice to someone else????????

I lost VERY slowly in the beginning. Now I stall for weeks and suddenly lose like 10-15 pounds in the span of a few days. PCOS is a monster that can never be killed, only subdued. However, even losing slowly and having all these stalls, I'm still 101 pounds down in 5.5 months. It will all even out for you in the end, just stick to your plan, take good care of yourself, and be patient with your body. It's a little traumatized right now, but it will get better.

Dar200 got a reaction from Jennifree in Post-surgery pain?
I had RNY October 26, 2015. In my case, I had much less pain than I expected. The day of surgery was bad, but a lot of that pain was from gas. Day two on wasn't that bad. And I have a very low tolerance for pain and I'm a total wimp about it. Overall, much less pain than I anticipated. I had discomfort for two weeks or so from gas, but tolerable from a self-confessed wimp.

Dar200 reacted to WannabeH in Has anyone found the journey after surgery easy?
    I started this thread.
I'm now 2 weeks post op. I had a small complication, a burst blood vessel after the op...I lost a lot of blood and ended up needing a blood transfusion...that part was very unpleasant!
Nope it's not easy, not for me anyway, although I wouldn't call it hard. I would prefer to use the word challenging......
For me it's about regaining my energy and it's getting better every day. I started using my Fitbit last week setting small challenges. I started at 3000 steps. Today I did 6500 steps, so I'm up for 7000 tomorrow.
    I started purees today....yeah I can still eat eggs!...love em....although I can eat about 1 egg over 40 mins.
Getting in enough Protein is challenging but I'll start adding more Protein powder to my purees.
I'm not craving sweets. Which is amazing for me, I've been a sugar addict most of my life.
I can look at cake, biscuits, donuts and now its like looking at cardboard.
Ive been lucky with pain. I have had a tiny bit of muscle pain when I move now, but nothing to complain about, so that's been easy.
My weight has been up and down, I've been sticking to the program, I lost approx 11 pounds post surgery....and in the past 2 days I've put back on 4 pounds.....what the????? I know there are stalls but really????? I know it just Fluid or maybe dodgy scales...I felt like throwing them threw the window this morning!
So yes my experience has been challenging....but not hard, so far....
I'm still glad I made the decision to have this op.....now I just need patience.

In addition to the dehydration, caffeine is also a stimulant and will cause you to be or feel hungry. BUT, the biggest reason for Decaf only is that regular coffee is very acid and can cause stomach ulcers. (I am not a Dr. but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express)

In a handout from my surgeon's office it says the parts of your stomach and intestines that digest fat and sugar are the parts that have been bypassed. So when fats and sugars hit your shorter bypassed small intestine, Fluid from all over your body is rushed to that area in order to dilute and get rid of the offensive stuff. So your other organs get stressed from shortage of fluid, some people get headaches, nausea, pain, weakness, diarrhea, etc. it not only feels awful but it is hard on your body. Thats from memory. I'll look it up tomorrow if you need a more complete description. Our bodies eventually recover the function of that part of the small intestine but maybe not entirely. Some people never dump, some are more sensitive. I'm just scared! Lol.

Hi there! Congratulations on taking steps to get healthy.
I am 16 months post op RNY. I am down 140lbs with 5 left to go to get to my ideal weight.
Prior to surgery I was a mess and chose to do it to get healthy never believing I would really get to a point where I was a normal weight vs. obese or even overweight. Well, I am a normal weight now with a BMI that went from over 44 to 24.5!
I had type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, severe Gerd, sleep apnea, anemia and stage 3 kidney disease. All of these diseases are in remission! Most of them with the first 3 months.
I have had no complications and I don't get sick unless I overeat. When I overeat I get very nauseous and on 3 occasions have vomited. You learn what to do and what not to do very quickly.
For me, this surgery was a breeze. Off pain medication with a couple days of being discharged.
I have gone from a size 26 to a size 10! This really was not the reason I had this surgery but let me tell you as soon as I started feeling better, getting to a normal BMI became my ultimate goal.
I have never ever regretted making this choice, not for 1 second. I used to live to eat and now I eat to live. food just is not as important to me. What I do eat is. I do not waste what little space I have on crap food like I used to.
RNY gastric bypass is the absolute best thing I have ever done for me.
I wish you the very best with your upcoming surgery! Feel free to reach out if you have more questions. I would be happy to help.

hello @@antionettemn619y I'm about 5.5 months out from my RNY in August. Since the day of surgery, I've lost exactly 100 pounds (just made that milestone this morning when I weighed myself!) and my life has changed in amazing ways. I'm slightly anemic at the moment, though that's mostly my fault for misreading my supplement instructions. Other than that, my health has greatly improved. I had a doctor's appointment 2 days ago and my blood pressure was PERFECT. All my blood work is perfectly normal, save my Iron levels which are being worked on. I have no regrets whatsoever.
It's certainly not easy. Vitamins are going to be a part of your life forever. Social situations may be a little awkward in the beginning, since you won't be able to drink or eat the same things in the same amounts as your friends and family. Changing so many lifelong habits can be difficult at first, though it gets easier. There are also less obvious changes that can be difficult, changes that a lot of people don't often talk about - your identity will change. Your self-image will change. Maybe even your life-priorities will change, because so much more becomes possible when you are no longer obese. People around you may change their behaviors towards you because they aren't sure how to react to the new smaller, more confident you. Some people even have issues with their close family members or spouses.
Is it all worth it? That's going to be for you to decide. But the huge majority of people, myself included, would not reverse this for the world. It took me six months to be brave enough to even go to a seminar, and another 7 months from there to actually have surgery, but now that it's all said and done and I'm becoming the best version of myself, I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made.

You'll find plenty of support and advice here. All you have to do is ask.

Ok so there's my arm which looks skinny and then there's this sagging blubbery hanging cow utter attached to my upper arm.
Any advice on minimizing this non surgically? I have recently incorporated some arm exercises into my workout routine but really don't know what I'm doing.
I keep my exercise simple w/ walking and some stair stepping. Now I'm over at the weights completely clueless!
    Help!
PS: I've hit the -100 lb mark! Hooray!!!

Dar200 got a reaction from Daisee68 in Hunger pangs not going away.
I just looked at the Metamucil website to check ingredients on their bars. The second ingredient listed is corn Syrup and sugar was included a little further down. I guess the person who suggested eating theses bars and drinking a lot of Fluid at the same time was thinking the Water would make the Fiber expand in your stomach so you would feel full. It doesn't sound like they know much about post Gastric bypass surgery eating. Way too much sweetener. It makes your blood sugar go all over the place and will definitely make you hungrier. Also, the fact that the bars plus water will probably stretch your pouch makes them a bad idea. Was this person a nutritionist for weight loss surgery patients? I suggest calling your surgeon's office or the nutritionist you saw pre-surgery.

    Dar200 got a reaction from cat_texan in Why can't I sleep?
The stall is very common in the beginning. I've seen a lot of people talk about stalls being common in week three. Keep up with the Protein and fluids. That will make you feel better in the long run. I had my surgery 10/26/15 and I thought I would never start feeling better. Week seven I finally felt better. I'm still very gradually getting better. I still have trouble figuring out what regular foods I can eat. I have cottage cheese every day, I'm glad I like it a lot. I usually have about a fourth cup canned fruit (in juice, no sugar added) with it. I have Premier Protein shake every morning for Breakfast. I eat a lot of really soft foods still. I was so wanting real food after surgery until I realized that my pouch rejected most everything. I named my pouch because she is such a brat. I'm still trying foods and I understand that it takes a long time to tolerate meats. I have a hard time with it. My high weight was 278, day of surgery I was about 265, and I weighed 217 this morning. I am so thrilled that I've lost 61 pounds. Sometimes it seems so incredibly slow and then I think about my total lost and it does not seem possible! Stick to it. You will succeed.

I am 5 months post op and I found that using a timer (there's a free one on the app store called "Bariatric Timer") really helps curve the hunger. Sounds weird but it helps me. I stopped using it for about a month and just recently started using it again to help with the hunger and bad snacking habits I have created. It tells you when it's OK to drink and eat and I found that when I stick to it, it almost feels like "wow, I have to eat again already?" or "wait, I didn't finish all the Water I wanted to drink before eating again." Stick to the rules! They are there for a reason. You've got this!

Dar200 reacted to CHM in Question for those who've chosen not to share their WLS
Yeah, I think I'm going to take this on a case by case basis as questions come up. I'm the worst liar - I turn bright red and avert my eyes - couldn't do it well if my life depended on it. It's not that I'm trying to hide the surgery really. I'm not embarrassed or anything (got over that by my first appointment in September). I'm just trying to avoid feeling cornered with negativity, but I have to say as surgery is getting closer I'm feeling much stronger and caring less and less.
As of now my husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and her husband know, as well as a friend from back home who had WLS last year. As others ask, I'll just determine on a case by case basis whether I straight up tell them I've had surgery or ambiguously tell them I've been working with a weight loss center (also true).
As I said, I'm starting to feel much stronger. I told my husband as we were going to bed tonight that I've lost 83 lbs, 12" off my waist, 4 dress sizes, dropped my BMI almost 13 points, and I did that all BEFORE surgery. Anyone who says I'm "cheating" or "taking the easy way out" can kiss my shrinking ass! (I'm so brave when there's no one to actually say that to. Lol )

I just wanted to let you guys know that I did tell my mother-in-law, and as I mostly expected she was very supportive. She promised to keep it to herself until I'm ready to share further. No interrogation, not even a question. She said that she knows I'm a smart woman and have surely done my research, and if this is what I feel is best for me then she's confident I'm making the right choice. As for my concerns about others, she said that when it comes out later if anyone has anything to say about it she'll tell them herself that its already done and its not their business. "Its not like anyone else runs their decisions on how to handle their medical issues by YOU, so why should you have to explain yourself to them?"
    I love that woman. <3

Dar200 reacted to Sajijoma in Question for those who've chosen not to share their WLS
I have chosen not to tell too many people. My husband and I talked through my decision and he was on board although reluctant. I told my best friend since high school because I needed the moral support and I told my SIL because I needed her natural cheerleader self on my team. I also told my college roommate because she had already had the surgery and I wanted to pick her brain for info on if it was the right move. About a week before surgery I got nervous and told my Inlaws because I wanted to have a plan in place Incase God forbid, I didn't make it. They were all really supportive. Since surgery, I've told 3 more people who were curious about my extreme weightloss and tiny meals. It's been hard. I wanted to keep it an utter secret, but I didn't want to lie either, so I just tell people as the need arises. So far, everyone has been really supportive of my decision except my brotherinlaw who is a body builder and trainer and just thinks I could try harder somehow. It's a mixed bag I guess. Over time, you may find yourself explaining to a lot of people or trying to find excuses to cover yourself, but I think it's preferred to telling everyone up front and listening to them feed you with horror stories. I told everyone I was having a hernia repaired and got enough hernia repair nightmares to make me glad I didn't actually have one! lol
