  1. Oh those are cool ideas, the each 20 lbs thing, I like that!! I'm waiting to realy get nice new clothes. until goal weight it's Goodwill for me. But when I do it'll be tailored stuff (yahoo!), I'll be saving up. For now it's these little sugar free dark chocolates after weigh in day on wednesdays.
  2. Wow, it's good to hear someone in the same boat, it's been such an uneventful, easy, almost completely pain free situation all the way through that I've almost not wanted to say that for fear of being obnoxious. I could drink almost as much as I wanted right away, and I definitely have to stop myself now on puree phase (I'm a bit over 5 weeks out), it HAS seemed almost weird like he gave me a slightly larger stomach because I'm a big guy, I don't know. But anyway, so far (knock on wood, this has been a life changing breeze. The only thing I've noticed is that I have to eat, even puree, very slowly, "chewing" apple sauce and the like, and to separate drinking time from meal time in that 30-30-30 business, and then I'm fine, I could probably drink 100 oz of water a day if I could stand it.... I've wondered the same thing, thanks for you post
  3. Thanks, you guys!! Yes, I'm starting to save for clothes now,. One odd thing, I'm 1 month and 22 days post-op but I'm pretty close to goal weight NOW, maybe 15 away. I had lost over 55lbs before surgery (I'd done it a half dozen times before..., so it won't be long, so I guess my question is: Will my body sort of level itself off at a weight? I really have no idea what that weight should be.... Anyway, we'll see what happens here, but it's been a worldwind!! I'm 6, 2" and my high had been 305lbs, and now I'm 213lbs.... in truth I guess the number isn't that important, health is. Thanks for being there. So few people know about my surgery so this has been a life line, love, p
  4. TheCloud1, yeah I thought the same thing! Silly us! I'm a month and 10 days post-op and I'm not even sure if what I experienced was dumping, but only once I think I ate too fast (I've never eaten the wrong stuff) or maybe even a little too much, but I think mainly too quickly, and anyway, I felt like a stomach ache and that I had to evacuate bowels, so I ended just sitting there feeling pretty horrible and even light-headed... it lasted maybe 15 minutes, don't want to experience it again.
  5. Hi friends and thanks again! That was quite a day learning that good news, I rode that high for a day or so. Now I tell you, at my age (and single) the idea of being more attractive was still appealing, just less so than it would have been when I was 40, and I won't lie- I'm having a blast bringing big bags of clothes to Goodwill etc. I'm loving wearing clothes off the rack and get this: tucking my shirts in...!! That's right, no more dashikis... Gimme a couple more months and we'll be talking swimming this summer, and not only at night with a t-shirt on.. And we might even dance once again, I used to love it when I was young before the pain in my legs became too great. Yes, this is much better, thank you very much!!
  6. Thanks for the post and for starting an important topic. I think you received an absolutely awesome response from Miiasan, really so thorough and informative, not to mention compassionate. I think it's telling that I live in a small New England town, and that of the relatively small amount of people I know in my life, I know around 4 people who have had Bariatric surgery, and that TWO of those four have gained ALL their weight back. What that tells me is that the operation is getting incredibly common in an extremely over weight society but also that too many people are not meeting the surgery half way... That is, as Miiasan explained, it is simply a powerful behavior modification tool, but we really have to change, to do our part or it simply will not work; sure, we'll lose weight initially but then if we haven't made the appropriate changes to ourselves we'll end up morbidly obese again. I don't want that to happen and I know you don't either; God knows we've cried, let's take this opportunity to laugh in the sun together!! We can do this.
  7. Thanks, you guys!! It's so cool to have a group of people who actually understand what this is all about.
  8. You guys, I just had a doctor's appointment, the first big post-op appointment with my GP, and it left me joyous!! In twenty five years I've never readings like this. Let me just put it this way. I came home in a cloud and threw into the garbage: Metformin, Glypizide (diabetes) Losartan, amlodipine (high blood pressure), flexerile, meloxicam (terrible back and joint pain), lipitor (high cholestrol) .... I have NONE of those things anymore. I literally let out a huge holler in the parking lot walking to my car.... Thank God and this RNY gastric Bypass surgery. Thank you for letting me share that with you all, I'm moved beyond words

  10. Hi folks I'm 35 days post op and around 18 lbs from my goal. I had lost around 45 lbs before surgery. Anyway, it's slowing down a lot now, lost 1.6 lbs last week, the slowest it's been. I'm eating around 850 calories a day on puree phase another three weeks. Just curious what kind of calorie intake people are doing at various stages post op, I track everything. One thing, I gotta raise up my exercise, I'm doing real ginger 30 minute walks but wanna add ab work and harder cardio. One weird observation: I get up now earlier around 530 everyday no problem and that was always a huge problem for me...that and for the first time in decades I no longer take ANY pain killers like advil, aspirin etc. The joint and back pain has just subsided incredibly, that alone makes this all worth it, cheers!!
  11. Hi yeah the same. I can even gulp Water or any liquid but I don't. I have drunk 20 bottle of water at an hour meeting. Feel a little full but no biggee.. I'm 35 days post op, eating around 850 calories a day
  12. Hi Baconville.... hey eating that chocolate you mention, have you had any problem maintaining or losing (if you're still in that phase) weight? I eat a tiny sugar-free dark chocolate bar it's 35 calories... but at least gives that chocolate satisfaction. I'm still at around 850 calories a day in weight loss phase, though this week for the first time I lost "only" 1.5 lbs, which is a fine healthy amount to lose but not necessarily for a RNY patient one month post-op... hmmmmm...
  13. I love Skinny Down...!! Can I get an Amen? Amen.... .
  14. Sorry to interrupt your self-righteous love/support fest, but if you actually HAD read the posts carefully and without an agenda you'd see the only people saying "vile, arrogant and nasty" stuff are YOU guys. No one I've ever seen here has told anyone they're fat, even though we all have been, what nonsense. We've often indulged ourselves for years, a little un sugar-coated truth, I believe, is better than some new age support at all costs mentality even in lieu of some truth. Now in terms of commenting when I didn't realize what the actual operation entailed, the sleeve, I'm sorry I commented, but the rest of the crap you two are saying here is just that, crap! So please, enough with the attacks; you haven't been attacked even though you think you have been
  15. Wow, what cautionary tales!! Personally, a great deal of my morbid obesity (I use that phrase to shock and remind myself how serious this got) began long ago with serious emotional problem beginning really young (I realize some people got this way through physical problems)but eventually these emotional problems created this physical problem of obesity that took on a life of its own and I couldn't reverse it, or at least I could only temporarily, always gaining it all back again. So in short I greatly fear gaining it all back once again (anyone have a gun?) which is why I now go to a regular shrink regularly, the bariatric support groups twice a month, meditate, and walk like crazy.....Regardless of whatever "training and counseling" one goes through pre-op, there are undoubtedly many of us who have taken this route as a quick fix, and I certainly understand that, not ridicule that, but it is sad because it won't work
  16. Heavenly, the feeling of tossing out those clothes! I have a big bag in the back of my car right now. One is this nice furry vest thing it seems like I just bought it but you could fit two of me in the darn thing now. It's almost surreal watching this happen
  17. He doesn't perform sleeve so it wasn't really discussed. I had a RNY
  18. Whoa!! No, I misunderstood the surgery!! I thought sleeve was just a plastic sleeve "slid" over the stomach, like a more sophisticated band... oops..
  19. The sleeve is whole different deal, you don't have a NEW stomach created , so why not? I was scared to death to cause any damage to the new healing stomach.
  20. You find one thread out of many hundreds unacceptable and you dismiss the entire site? Well, ok then, but that fact and your shaming of everyone sort of exposes your own intolerance.
  21. This is a scary disease that got us here, people are people, they get easily startled.
  22. Steve, are you kidding? Do you mean success in losing or getting to be 378 in the first place? Do you mean now as a treat, reward type thing? please explain, thanks, p
  23. That you're worried is a VERY good sign, it means you can still get therapy to make sure this surgery works for you. I have to ask, though I realize you probably don't really know the real answer, but why in the hell would you do that? You've got a whole buncha people on here shaking their heads, wondering the same thing.
