Feeling like a fraud in the "misses" clothes section
SweetPotato replied to Josey Quinn's topic in The Gals' Room
Totally feel that... as someone who was a 26, sometimes 28 and just bought some 18s ... its hard to wrap your head around things. I've lost 120 lbs but was still trying to wear my old clothes. I just gave away all of my torrid 3, 4 and 5s. I am now wearing 2s and sometimes 1s. Ive bought a few xxl and 1 xl at Target. It's crazy. I don't want to buy all of the clothes, but part of the problem is that I'm in a profession where part of my efficacy is placed on my appearance. Clients don't want therapists in hugely oversized clothes and who look sloppy. Part of the issue is that I can better fit into the fashions that i like, as well. i try to buy new items a little snugger than i prefer to extend their life(although i've always liked snugger clothes). I've developed a process by which i let my sister tell me when things are too big to carry off and then I add it to the donation bag, friends bag, or post it on eBay (especially if its only been worn once or i haven't had a chance to wear it yet). -
I'm a therapist and have a lot of experience with psych meds. Wellbutrin is not an SSRI, it is an atypical antidepressant. It is generally prescribed for depression, SAD, ADHD and smoking cessation (sometimes also for people with binge eating/purging but that is a little controversial). It has waaaaaay fewer sexual side effects than SSRIs, often leads to a slightly lessened appetite and weight loss, and can be helpful for people with low energy and who have trouble with motivation and starting activities. People with histories of seizure disorder, who have recently been on an MAOI, have history of anxiety/panic attacks/manic episodes and who are anorectics should not take it. It is, honestly, one of the best tolerated antidepressants and is one that all of my patients who have used it have tolerated well.

Please help me solve this very painful puzzle
SweetPotato replied to happybuddy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
prozac can cause weight gain, but the majority of gain usually happens in the first few months and it generally is around 10 lbs total throughout the course of treatment. it shouldn't keep you from losing with this surgery, however. If you are concerned about the meds and your doc is open to it, you could talk to them about switching to a non-SSRI, like wellbutrin/bupropion. people tend to lose weight on it and it has less libidinal side effects. if you have ever had anxiety or manic symptoms, however, it is not a good idea to switch to this med. -
How long are you planning to take off from work?
SweetPotato replied to reachbree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
there are soooooooooo many posts on this exact subject. truth is, it varies person to person. I was back at school for 12 hours 5 days after surgery, shopping 3 days and at work on my 7th day. Other people took more than a month off... it really just depends on your personal rate of recovery, how well you tolerate fluids and your activity level. -

I agree... The walking around really helped so I didn't have the same gas pain complaints that a lot of people had. -

I have been struggling with planning my birthday next week. In the past, I have celebrated with some combo of bars (especially karaoke bars) and fancy restaurants. I've lost 101 lbs and am thinking that deviating from my program after losing so much (and still having so much to lose) is probably a terrible idea. I'm wondering what others have done to Celebrate their birthdays...

Need to lost 35lbs before they'll schedule surgery...
SweetPotato replied to Taunter's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I lost almost 50 lbs pre op with my hospital's plan... basically 3 oz of Protein with 1 cup of cooked or 2 cups raw veggies, 1 serving starch (either 1/2 cup starchy veg like squash, sweet potato or Beans [which count as protein and starch, or 1 slice toasted whole grain bread under 100 cals) can use up to an oz of fat in the form of avocado or 1 tsp butter, etc. for Breakfast, get a piece of fruit or cup berries instead of veggies. no white flour, sugar, corn, celery, rice/pasta/white potatoes, fried foods, soda, carbonated beverages, gum, or caffeine. it was super hard to eat all the food after a few days. I have PCOS and hypothyroidism and was able to lose. -
EXERCISE CHALLENGE ROUND 2!
SweetPotato replied to Rebeccaabrooks86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i have a fitbit flex, but my steps are super low. I spend hours at a time sitting (seeing clients, reading journal articles, 4 hour daily commute, etc). I used to get in only about 2k a day... my current goal is 5k. -
Comments from only one sex
SweetPotato replied to Briardlady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've only had a single person comment on my weight loss...one of the male cohort members in my doctorate program who I consider a friend. He just commented on how hard I must be working and wondered if it would be ok for him to check in as a way to offer support. He prefaced it with a "i know this might sound weird to ask.." None of my female friends or colleagues have said anything and my loss is pretty noticeable. -
