  1. As I'm in the home stretch before surgery I am one of those uber type A people and very organized. So I have started packing a few things for the hospital... So, tell me what did you leave at home that you wish you would have taken to the hospital??
  2. Well, my surgery day, what I call my "butterfly day" is exactly a week away....OMG it's almost here!! When I first walked into my surgeons office in August of 2015 and was told yes I was a good candidate but my insurance required a 6 month supervised diet I wanted to cry!!! I was so ready to have surgery right then and there!! In hindsight I needed these months to mentally change myself and my views on food. Now I am ready ! To those in the 6 month wait ...it will go quickly and use the time to prep yourself mentally as well as physically. ????
  3. Being high protein low /no carb we are all lacking fiber. Keeping hydrated will help as will miralax or the smooth move tea.
  4. I have only read the first page or so of this thread but.... I know that sometimes people show you who they are. Listen when they do..... Good luck sorting this all out....
  5. Speaking of Downton... The writer, Julian Fellows is slated to do a show in the US. It's reported to be set in the Gilded age in NYC. I can't wait!!! Touring fabulous Gilded age mansions or even better staying in one converted to a hotel is one of my passions.
  6. Speaking of hockey, funny story... My partner mentioned she would like for us to go to a Blackhawks game. I said sure! We will get tickets....as soon as I figure out when their season is...???????????? I'm so not into sports I have no idea when hockey season is! Lol and even better, she doesn't either! Hahahah
  7. I get the football one too! Lol I don't care about football!! Hahahah
  8. Stay strong! This will all work itself out and for now control the things you can. Be as ready for surgery mentally and physically as you can and it will happen!
  9. I have no experience but have you consulted with your neurologist also regarding surgery?
  10. When I open the app I get a full screen advert for any number of things. I have seen McDonalds, Google .....I must watch it for something like 5 seconds before I am able to access the app content.
  11. Ok so as long as we are on theories I watched when the family went down to the kitchens to welcome home "The Carsons". Granny left early " because she was tired" ???? Now in worried she will be killed off this season! All the stress from her hospital fight... Hmmmmmm....
  12. Oh! I almost forgot, I also love Mr Selfridge (PBS) Bletchley Circle (BBC& PBS)
  13. Inner Surfer Girl- if you like Erik Larson you should check out Karen Abbott. She wrote Sin in the Second city as well as Liar Tempress Soldier Spy. LTSS is about female spies during the Civil war... Excellent read!
  14. Oh my gosh! No worries! Spoilers don't bother me at all or I would not have opened the thread ????
  15. Off to find that book! I'm a crazy book worm ...and I am addicted to coffee table books ! Coffee table books with wonderful photographs ....
  16. Oh wow! I'm an episode behind since I discovered Mercy Street and must divide my limited time for tv watching. Can't wait to see that episode now! I was worried they would kill him off this season. All the talk of gastric upset etc. I was worried they were for foreshadowing a heart attack.
  17. If you like Devil in the White City them try his In The Garden of Beasts. Since you like PBS dramas, CALL THE MIDWIFE (hanky alert!) Oh I forgot about In the Garden of beasts! I loved that book and try to red everything Eric Larson Writes....I have a few on hold through Overdrive I love Call the Midwife! Basically I am addicted to BBC programming in general
  18. One of the things I love to photograph as an amateur photographer is horse shows.... There is nothing like travel photography....I come home with hundreds of photos from every trip we take
  19. So, there are a lot of us heading for surgery soon and will have a period of recovery after. For me that usually means two things...books and tv...and audio books. So, I currently use the Overdrive app which if you do not have I would strongly suggest you consider downloading. It links to the library and allows you to rent digital books and audiobooks through the app. It's fabulous! I believe you can also rent movies although I haven't done that yet. Audio books are wonderful for walking or working out. I find when I get into a great part in the book I'm want to continue my walk so I can hear what happens! What are your suggestions for great books? I'm into history so my suggestions are... Devil in the White city Sin in the Second city Liar, Soldier, temptress, spy As for television what do you watch? I know we have a Netflix thread but what are you watching on network tv or iTunes ? I love ... American Horror Story, all seasons (Fx) Downtown Abbey (PBS) Mercy Street (PBS) The Knick (Cinemax) Boardwalk Empire ( HBO) Dexter ( Showtime) Pan Am ( iTunes) Mad Men (AMC) Turn (AMC) Broad church ( BBC & Netflix) Bloodline ( Netflix) Grace & Frankie ( Netflix) I'm also a sucker for documentary films.... How we got to now ( PBS and Netflix) Anything by Lucy Worsley ( BBC and PBS ) So, give me some suggestions on things to check out....
  20. Fabulous photo! Amazing what it took to produce one photo back then !
  21. Wow! That's extremely interesting! I am addicted to historic photos of the city and its inhabitants. I must research this further....
  22. So other than micromanaging your diet ( like we all must do post op! Lol) what are your hobbies? How do you spend your free time? For me I adore photography and have my iPhone and my DSLR with me at all times. I also enjoy..... Reading Opera Museums Gilded age mansions Antiques Symphony ( classical music) Musical theatre (wicked and the like) I'm a history nut and specifically like researching Chicago history. So, what are your hobbies?
  23. The Impressionists are beautiful, aren't they? Glad you enjoyed. Next time go to the Metropolitan Museum. It's huge so map it out first. The artwork is beyond stunning. Agreed ! and look into the Frick collection....it's unbelievable but I strongly suggest buying tickets online before your visit. The line routinely stretches around the block and then some for same day tickets.
  24. I agree B52. I need to contact the physician I saw a few years ago who tested my resting metabolic rate. I have a slow metabolism. It was something like 900-1000 calories a day. So I need to eat less to lose. That's my goal today to call and get my chart from that weight loss physician! ????
