    Pneumonia and Meningitis ***WORRIED***

So sorry you are having such struggles. My adult daughter had meningitis. I just about passed out watching the spinal tap. Dr. fished around (several failed attempts) then went and got someone with experience doing them <big sigh>. The meningitis ran its course and daughter was ok. It did take some time. Good luck to you, keep us posted.
  2. Ok, I'm ramping up for my surgery....having been on SOOOO many diets over the years and thinking again how I'm getting back up on that dragon and wondering if this time I should just forgo the whole weighing thing. It causes me a great deal of angst. I tend to diet for the weigh in. I hate the scale. It talks back to me....failure failure. This surgery is so drastic maybe i need a new approach. Do everything right and forget the scale monster. Anyone try this approach ? As it is I'm too big for your average home scale so I have to either buy an expensive one (which will break or be too large for my bathroom) or just rely on Dr. visits.
  3. haha...i've not worn zipper pants since about 1985. What a concept!

    New protein source.

Looks like Amazon carries this product, how is the cost compared to what you paid? I'll look for it in the store. Has anyone done research on price/taste of shakes vs powder. Or buying it from the dr.s office? I'm three weeks pre op and need to start purchasing...how much should I have on hand? What else should I have on hand? http://www.amazon.com/Protein2o-Flavored-Protein-Water-Variety/dp/B00YBDLEPC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439986829&sr=8-1&keywords=protein+Water

    My Gastric Journey

Jo Jo....way to go ! One of my reasons for wanting to lose weight is that I feel like i don't get good medical care because I get the impression from them that fat people don't matter. I'm happy that they didn't give up on you. Congrats on your loss. I can't wait to have my surgery and have my own success story. Sept. 9 countdown for me.
  6. I'm scheduled for my sleeve surgery Sept. 9. It will include gall bladder removal. Complication.....daughter is in hospital with bed restriction, she is 25 weeks pregnant and has a ruptured amniotic sac on Baby A, she is expecting twins. She has been in the hospital three weeks already and as long as she doesn't go into labor she could be there 60 more days before they will induce. (Oct. 11). I live three hours to hospital. She needs my support. Is it feasible to think that after one week recoup post surgery i will be able to drive that far (will I have the energy?) I don't have to leap tall buildings with a single bound but i do need to be available to support my daughter. If these babies decide to make an early appearance. I know the babies will be in the hospital for awhile. We had a family meeting and everyone wants me to go ahead but that little voice that everyone tells you to listen to is yelling at me to cancel. Will i be able to focus on food prep? It would be nice if I could do something for myself ONCE. but life is messy sometimes. I just don't know what the right answer is. Also wondering if I will have to go thorough with all the stuff to re-quailfy with my insurance company if i should cancel. There is a good chance that one or both of these babies will be born with big complications. Will I be able to pay enough attention to myself and still help my daughter? Looking for a crystal ball I guess : > (
  7. Are either of these programs "center of excellence" rated? When I lived in metro detroit and was considering the surgery about 7 years ago my U of M dr. told me to go to Beaumont. I have since moved and am preparing for my surgery Sept. 9. My hospital has the "center of excellence" rating. Hopefully I'll make it though to the other side....the light side : ) If i still lived in the area I would chose U of M. Their program might be newer but I have a lot of faith in the quality of Uof M I am not familiar with the two you mentioned.
  8. Sounds to me like your blood sugar level is low and then spiking. My husband (mr. skinny) has hypoglycemia and those are two of his symptoms I watch for so I can know to administer glucose.
  9. Everythings done and ready to go Sept. 9 just have the two week liquids pre op to deal with. Speaking of food funerals....I've been having them for months. I'm going to strrggle a bit seeing as I don't eat fish and I don't eat cultured dairy. Thinking i need to learn to stomach tofu...blech.

    Rash

Interesting! I'm pre surgery and nothing has been said to me about this at my surgeons office. I found this article...a bit over my head but found the two files in the article interesting...espeically the first one on correlation of deficiency and what is lacking. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4371663/

VGS Scheduled 9/2 - SUPER SCARED!

My date is Sept. 9. I'm going straight out liquid on my pre surgery diet. I'm scared also. Really looking forward to being on the other side of the surgery. I am trying to focus on little things that will be easier. Maybe we should make a list......shoes will fit better, bras will fit better, i will fit better
  12. I'm feeling really confident this morning. We celebrated daughter hitting week 25 yesterday. With each day the babies get stronger. Hopefully my surgery will be without incident and I will be able to move and breath so much better. I tell you its a challenge just to park and get up to the hospital room to see her. I moved 6 months ago, the back of the property is very hilly. At the bottom of the hill there is a lake. I've not been able to walk down that far. That is one of my goals. I have told my siblings of my surgery and sworn them to secrecy regarding my 90 yo mom. Its been kind of freeing to share this plan with people after having it under my hat since March. And to hell with their opinions. I refuse to allow judgements to affect my process. Thanks for your support. It really put me at ease.
  13. Thank you all for your insightful responses. As i read these i can feel myself relaxing about all of this. I assumed I would be drinking my meals a lot longer. Good info. Thanks
  14. Had a long talk with daughter yesterday and we have decided to roll the dice and have the surgery as planned on Sept. 9. I'm going to spend the next couple of weeks getting my ducks in a row here at home. Two things on my agenda..... 1. What is the best little blender (those bullet kind) to buy? I've been pricing them and the prices are all over the place. 2. Whats your favorite source of liquid Protein. I'm sure the stuff my dr.s office sells is super expensive.

    What to say

I'm having my surgery Sept. 9 so I'm in the thick of this "who to tell" 'what to tell". Very relevant for me. I've been vacillating for weeks about what to say. In the end I've chosen to be forward to be upfront with everyone except my 91 yo mother. She has some dementia issues and is having a very difficult time with fixating on my daughters health problems now (high risk pregnancy hospitalization). She has caused me so much stress with her multiple phone calls and questions that I just can't go down this road with her. I will tell her my weight loss is tied to my gall bladder surgery, she had her gall bladder out so she is accepting of that. The thing that really ticks me off about the entire thing is WHY do I have to ask myself these questions about who would be accepting and who would not. I'm so tired of my weight being the topic of conversation for people. I'm sure the haters will all whisper "she had to have surgery, she has no control"
  16. i see that i have 12 replies but for some reason i cannot open page one of this thread. This is my first posting on this website. When i click on page one i get a very long blank page with an icon for "featured surgeon" and can't seem to close it. i am assuming all your posts are hiding behind it.....thanks for your responses. I can't however read them : ( I do see the last two entries on page two. Thank you for your responses.
