How long did it take from your first consultation until surgery day?
JupiterinVirgo replied to ML573663's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
About 3-4 months. -
When I experience and need to eat much more than I normally have since surgery, it is always because I am lacking nutrients. And/or my calories are too low. I find that if I eat fruit and nuts for a couple of days, a green smoothie or two, my appetite decreases dramatically.

Lies we told ourselves when we were fat
JupiterinVirgo replied to NikkiDoc's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The biggest lie I told myself was that my compulsive eating was worth it, and that I really wasn't that big. -
"This was the best thing I ever did"
JupiterinVirgo replied to shotgun72000's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The sleeve gave me a whole new life. I had gotten so large that it was hard to even do basic every day things, and I have never been a person who is satisfied with the basic every day life anyway. I wanted adventure. I wanted to travel. I wanted to have more pleasure in my life That came from somewhere else besides a menu. I wanted to dance. I wanted to feel comfortable in my own skin. I wanted my pain to go away. That is why I got sleeved. And my faith was not misplaced. I am down over 100 pounds in a little over seven months, and I have purchased an RV, so I can travel. I am literally embarking on a whole new life which would have been impossible at my previous weight. The sleeve saved my life. Even though it was and is a sacrifice, every bit of it has been worth it to me. I wish I could've done this for myself along time ago, as I would be at goal by now. It was one of the best decisions of my adult life. -
How do you control ravenous cravings for sugar and carbs? I didn't really have these cravings for quite a while, but recently they reappeared. I find myself struggling every single time I walk into a store, wrestling with whether I should buy that cookie or the candy or whatever. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. Down over 100 pounds, but I would like to keep going and I'm really struggling with this.

One of the reasons that I had the surgery was because I had this in inner experience, this inner unfolding. It was something my subconscious may just for me. I saw myself thin, wearing red, dancing ecstatically near a smoking bonfire. I could feel my own joy. I could feel my own liberation. It was and I was, glorious! This help give me the courage to do what was necessary.

OMG! Over half way to goal!
JupiterinVirgo replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My high weight was 323. My goal weight is 160. I've lost about 103 pounds, so I'm more than halfway there now at the six-month mark. 85 of it came off since surgery. It's pretty amazing. Congratulations on getting to the halfway point… It really is amazing to have less than 100 pounds to lose for sure! -
When does the discomfort stop after surgery?
JupiterinVirgo replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It took about 12 days for me. -
Within a couple months of my surgery I started to notice that I wasn't sweating all the time anymore. Before, just going grocery shopping would leave me wet and sweaty. I am now six months out from surgery and I am definitely experiencing the feelings of being very cold at times, but do not seem to be directly related to the temperature or the weather. It's not all the time, but it has been happening for the last couple of months.

Why i cant tolerate food anymore?
JupiterinVirgo replied to mia150's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I go through cycles where eating feels more difficult-fighting against no appetite coupled with the discomfort of eating dense high protein foods sometimes leaves me between choosing to live on mostly liquids, or well tolerated foods, not all of which are what I would consider ideal for my health and weight loss goals. For me, it all seems to balance out-I am down over 100 pounds total, 85 since surgery, six months ago, sometimes it really feels like a struggle! -
Beware my fitness pal app update
JupiterinVirgo replied to goplay94123's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I was so disappointed when I saw those at inserts. Most of them were unrelated, baiting, and some of them were even advertising junk food! I know the app is free, but there are better ways! -
Does anyone dance for exercise?

What do YOU need to support your long-term weight management (before and after surgery)? Tell us!
JupiterinVirgo replied to Student789's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When I decided to get the surgery, I also decided to plan for a new kind of life that would encourage more activity, less sitting at home, and more meaningful social connections. Upon reflection I realize that the standard suburban lifestyle puts too many walls and other objects between us and the rest of the world, softly encouraging us to retreat, height, sit, watch TV, And eat potato chips! I decided that if I changed my lifestyle radically, it would help me to keep off the weight. I am still losing weight, but I have purchased an RV and plan to move into it and travel around the country. I believe that this will help me to be more active, sit around the house less, and make meaningful social connections. I gained 130 pounds after the loss of my husband, after which I became very isolated and lonely making food my only reliable friend. In the interim, I have done a lot of personal development work. I had my surgery six months ago and I'm down over 100 pounds. I intend to keep going, and I intend to keep it off, but I know that that means making sure that I better provide for my own emotional needs. -
My cycle has been different since surgery. It was always 25 to 28 days. Now there are about 17-19 days between the beginning and ends of my cycles.

People are too obsessed with the rules. If you can drink from a straw and it doesn't hurt, there is no harm to using one. The mythology that the sleeve can be stretched out by bubbles or air is not the truth. That cannot happen by drinking a carbonated beverage or by using a straw. Some people, however, experience discomfort when using the straw. Those people probably shouldn't use them. For me, tiny straws like coffee stirring straws make it much much easier to get fluids in! I also drink with my meals like a regular person. I am six months out, and down 100 pounds plus! Do what is right for you.

How have people responded to your weghtloss?
JupiterinVirgo replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally, I don't feel that I owe anybody an explanation about my body. While I graciously and happily received compliments about my weight loss, further inquiry is generally in bad taste and not something that I encourage of people. To me, the body is extremely personal. At the very least it's very rude to ask someone about the decisions they make for their bodies. -
How do you flavor your water?
JupiterinVirgo replied to UsernameTaken's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm not a big Water drinker either. I want to be, but like most people I find a bland and boring. This by itself was not such terrible thing before surgery because I could go down a bottle and a couple of minutes and go on about my day, but now it takes me 45 minutes to an hour to drink a bottle of water. A few little tricks I like to use: I find that ice cold water goes down the easiest, although other people find that room temperature water is easier to get in. I flavor my water by adding fresh organic fruits and herbs to it, like: lemon slices, sprigs of mint, cucumber slices, a sprig of sage, etc. there and less varieties of this that you can do, that will give you all kinds of refreshing and interesting tastes and your water without adding harmful aspartame and other sweeteners to it. Finally, although it is not water, I like to make a fresh organic gourmet sun tea, again using fresh organic novel flavors to make it interesting. If I wish to have it sweetened, I add organic Stevia. I hope these suggestions are helpful; diet soda, Crystal light, and other GMO sweet and chemical concoctions I definitely not in our best interest in the long run. Good luck! -
Coffee after Sleeve...
JupiterinVirgo replied to NikkiRT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a writer, and coffee is a staple of my diet. It was before, and it is now. I didn't drink coffee immediately after surgery; I drink tea with raw local honey in it which has antimicrobial properties that I thought would be good to heal my stomach incisions. But within two weeks was back on regular coffee, the only difference being that I add collagen powder to it. Now on days when I don't move around much because I'm stuck at my desk, The protein powder and coffee seems to really do the trick. -
There are so many levels to the experience of having weight-loss surgery. In addition to our physical chemistry being all sorts of out of whack from fasting for weeks before surgery, being under Anastasio, having 80% of our stomachs amputated, and all the pain medication, etc. It is bound to screw with us! In addition to the physiological shifts that are happening, many many of us who have had the surgery got to that point because of trauma, depression, anxiety, and other difficult emotions we did not know how to handle. After surgery, when stressors arise, I am pulses tend to be what they have always been: food. And after surgery, it is not possible-not physically possible-to eat like we did before, and so many of us grieve. We grieve the loss of food, and all of the social connections that are built around it. We grieve for the life behind us, much of it left largely on lived because our weight I've been hindering us from doing what we really wanted to do. We grieve, as our fat cells break apart and release subtle body memories of the pain that had caused us to put on so much weight to begin with. I have found that this journey has been a profound psycho-spiritual journey. Our bodies change so quickly after weight loss surgery. Believe it or not, some of us even grieve the weight we are losing as our bodies change shape and size practically before our eyes. It takes the mind a while to catch up! Be gentle with yourself. It's OK. You have done something courageous and brave, and you are allowed to feel sad, angry, anxious. You're allowed to feel hunger, and let it bring you to tears. You are not alone in this. I just know that it's going to get better and better. no regrets
