    6 weeks post gastric sleeve

I understand the urge to have some unit of relative measurement, but the truth is that we all lose weight at our own pace. If you start with a very high bodyweight, you drop more of it much more quickly at the beginning. People who start with low BMIs, lose more slowly. If you want to know the averages, at six months post-sleeve, the average weight loss is 80 pounds. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Nauseous 5 weeks post op!

I was nauseous for months. I still get nauseous sometimes if I put the wrong thing in my body. Some days, especially in the first six months, no matter what I ate I felt nauseous. Other days, fine. It's just part of the process. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Overeating

I definitely felt this way before I had my surgery too. I was so afraid that I was never going to enjoy eating again! For me, food was standing in for all kinds of unmet needs and that was the real panic-if I couldn't substitute food for all the things my life was lacking I was afraid that I would not be able to cope. But the truth is, that a few months after surgery you will probably be able to eat most of the things that you eat now, but you won't want to. And if you slip up here or there, it's not really that big a deal because people like us will have to watch our relationships with food for the rest of our lives. 25 days in hospital...need advice!

Tell them you're seriously considering suing the hospital for malpractice as well as the surgeon involved. That'll light a fire under their ass real quick. They are trying to disempower you because they messed up. Don't fall for it! You are the customer. They work for you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I was so big that I could barely walk around the grocery store. I suffered from back pain, shoulders pain, joint pain. My life had gotten very small, and I spent most of it behind a computer. I was afraid to accept invitations, because I couldn't keep up with even the most normal of activities. Or that I might not fit in the seat offered to me. Or any number of other things I associated with my weight, like sweating profusely attempting to complete ordinary tasks. I found that humiliating. I had my surgery 11 months ago, and my entire life has changed. I gave up my apartment, sold all my stuff bought an RV and moved in. I get to travel all over the country, on my terms, for fun. Before, I really wouldn't have been able to fit in here, and I definitely would not be able to carry out the physical tasks necessary when one lives in an RV. This has brought untold gifts and treasures to me! I get to live a life that was impossible just a year ago! I just got under 200 pounds, and I feel great! It's almost as if my real personality was buried under 125 pounds of fat. I feel so much more myself. I am starting to feel sexy again. I am able to move my body now. For me, the surgery was the kind of miracle. I feel like I got a second chance at life. And I'm going to make the most of it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Nauseous 5 weeks post op!

I was nauseous a lot of the time after I ate At 5-6 weeks out. There were days when no matter what I put in the sleeve didn't like it. Other days no problem. It was not constant but it felt like it happened a lot, for probably the first few months. If it's not specifically related to eating, you should probably get checked out. I think it only a month out of the surgery like that the body is going through a lot and any number of symptoms could just be a result of your body trying to rebalance itself and purging toxins, but there are other things that could be going on that might be more serious and worth finding out about. If it were me, the first thing I would be looking at is what am I putting in my body since surgery that I wasn't putting in before. Perhaps you're allergic to something in the Protein shakes you're drinking or maybe you can't tolerate low-quality supplements or something like that. But I would also swing by my surgeons office for a quick check up and/ bloodwork. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Multivitamin with iron - whole food/organic?

I still use smarty-pants non-GMO Multivitamins. If you have issues with Iron he probably will still have to take an extra supplement. There are lots of legitimate real organic products out there-they just have to go to the right places to get them and be willing to pay a little more. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Back Issues

I was just thinking about this because I started jogging and felt something kind of jerked out of place. I went to the chiropractor yesterday and my whole spine was out of alignment. I know it wasn't just from that, I did have some back problems before the weight-loss surgery. But with such a dramatic decrease in body mass in such a short period of time, definitely the body is working overtime, and some things sort of emerge from that. At 325 pounds my knees didn't hurt because I didn't walk very much. I started exercising after losing 124 pounds and found my knees were aching. I think some of this sort of just gets hidden underneath more severe issues-like in my case, I felt like I was almost too fat to move. I would break a sweat just going to the grocery store! Even with the occasional backache, I feel like I have my life back! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hanging skin

I have noticed with my weight loss that as my body is rebalancing itself between drops in weight, that I do have a little more hanging on one side than the other. I have never had that before. It doesn't seem to get continuously worse, because it's like in between or every 15 to 20 pounds my body tends to stall and rebalance Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Do you love your Fitbit ?

I just got my fit bit about a week ago, and I find it extremely motivating. To be honest, I was very surprised. In general I find walking to be incredibly boring, and I have not exercised in a decade on purpose. However fit bit gives me A way to hold myself accountable, it shows me every day the work I've done and keeps a record of it so I can see myself doing more and more. At the end of the week it tells me how many miles I walked. Last week I walked like 13 miles! This is completely unheard of for me LOL. I highly recommend you get one if you're feeling Drawn to that. I got mine new, but a slightly older model, on eBay for $45! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. I don't know anything about DS. So I can't comment on that, and nobody knows what's best for you but you. I do, however, wish to share that I have the sleeve surgery that you were hoping to get, and my highest weight was in the 320s. I am 11 months out of surgery and currently weighing 195. There are many people on these forms who have had tremendous success with the sleeve, and many of them started at a higher weight than I did. I'm sure your doctor has his reasons, but I think it is completely reasonable for you to want a doctor Who will support you in choosing the least invasive least dramatic surgery to help you with your weight-loss efforts. Exercise & Fitbit

First, I confess. I lost over 124 pounds in 11 months without exercising. I was so big for such a long time, and have been sedentary for years. It takes a while for the mind to realize how much the body has changed. Even six months in and 90 pounds down, I found myself moving my body slowly, bending carefully, as I did when I was in the 320s. Well, I recently crossed into ONEDerland, and instead of doing something indulgent, I got myself a fit bit. It came in the mail on Monday, and I have been using it all week. I find this to be a highly empowering tool, that is rapidly making me obsessed with walking. Being able to track my progress and then press myself with how much activity I have recently added, keeps me constantly trying to beat myself/record from the day before! I also could have come to realize that this gets me out from behind a computer several times a day, into nature, and is supporting my mental health, plus giving me tons of energy. Who knew!? I highly recommend this fantastic tool, and I invite you to contact me if you have one and would like to "walk together!" Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
