  1. So after being a spectator on this site for 6 months while waiting to meet the requirements of my insurance, I now feel like more "part of the in crowd" with my surgery scheduled on September 8th. My first feeble post was like dipping my toes in the water; that I was scheduled and feeling excited and terrified all at the same time. The six months flew by...seriously, I thought it would be the opposite, that the wait would be tortuous....but alas, I'm literally counting the days and now my brain is drawing a panicked blank. I'm having nightmares that I wake up and the surgery "didn't take." After all, it's awfully hard to absorb the concept of how the surgery will limit my eating. Right? I'm right, aren't I? Surely others feel the same way? When it comes to food, I am driven by two gears: hungry and stuffed. And, despite the fact that I have previously been very successful at losing weight and equally successful at gaining weight, it's still a hard concept to grasp. So I'm sure it's quite normal to have difficulty believing that eventually, 1/4 a cup of food will fill me up. It seems so unreal. Sigh...I guess it's part of that emotional roller coaster of understanding and conceptualizing the gravity of surgery. I'm optimistic that my brain will catch up by time that date rolls around in a couple of weeks...
