Really strange physical reaction!
Hello all! I'm now two weeks and two days past my RNY, and I'm happy to say I have had virtually no issues or complications. However, yesterday I went to my sister's senior year meet and greet at school. We walked around for about an hour and a half, and I had rests in between. I felt fine until the end of the 1.5 hours, when I suddenly felt cold and clammy to the touch, but also like I was very hot, and my boyfriend was concerned because I was getting very white but my cheeks and chest were getting red. After just a minute or two of this I started feeling faint. I drank a bit of Water and sat down, but it wasn't until I sat for several more minutes and had some more water that I started to feel even a little better. My mother is a diabetic, so she was able to check my blood sugar with her monitor, and it was normal. I know I'm not dehydrated. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? Or does anyone have any idea what this could have been? I was walking in and out of air conditioned rooms and hot, humid hallways. Could it have been a strong reaction to temperature changes? I'm not terribly concerned, as I feel fine today, though tired. But I would really like to avoid whatever caused this strange reaction, especially since I almost fainted. Thanks!

Almost 3 weeks.. pain? Waiting for normal...
I've been more aware of all my senses since surgery. My sense of smell is incredible, and overall I just feel much more aware. I believe it is the lack of crap going into our bodies, especially the huge reduction in sugar. I'm two weeks and two days since my RNY and I'm told to eat 4 oz. or less per meal. I'm only getting in one, rarely two meals so far, though i'm encouraged to have three small meals a day and two Protein shakes a day. 1 TBS seems very small, but every surgeon is different. As for eating being enjoyable, I think that is a thing of that past for us. Things can still taste good to me, but I just don't get the same satisfaction from eating that I used to. But isn't that part of the great thing about WLS? I believe it will help us to lose and keep off weight in the long run. As for your pain on the left side, try heating packs. I barely have any pain any more, and only when I overexert myself is it even very noticeable. Some people still have pain even 4 or 6 weeks afterward, but if it is worrying you, perhaps you should call your doctor. Did you have a drain in when you left the hospital? Recently, there was another thread here written by a woman who had left side pain long after her pain should have subsided and she ended up back at the hospital where she found out that she had a buildup of Fluid in her abdomen. It was for this very possibility that my surgeon made me keep the drain in for a week after I came home. I despised it SO much but I'm seeing now that fluid buildup is a real possibility. Not trying to scare you! Just saying to keep an eye on your pain, and if it worsens, definitely call a doctor or go see one. Otherwise, you are most likely on the road to healing and you will get there eventually. Don't push yourself past your limits. Your body has been through a substantial trauma and everyone heals at their own pace. If something hurts or exhausts you too much, just give yourself a few more days before you get back to your previous exercise habits. Take care of yourself! Keep us updated.

Eating after RNY
It's been two weeks and two days since my RNY and I'm able to eat a half cup of pureed food. Then again, I suspect that's simply because I have always healed very well, very quickly. Sometimes I feel satisfied before I finish the half cup, and sometimes the half cup is the perfect amount for me. Still, I don't think you're egg-size portion is abnormal at all.

Protein Shake Liquid Diet Suggestion?
I'm a little over two weeks out past my RNY, and the brands I like are: muscle milk (all flavors but their chocolate least of all. The cookies and creme one is great), pure protein (which is great because it's 35g of protein and only 1g of sugar, and it's in a soda-can size so it's not a huge amount of liquid to drink), and Met-Rx Protein Plus RTD 51. These are all ready to drink shakes and I find them to be the least chalky/gross. Just my experience though. You really may have to just try things after surgery because your taste buds certainly will change. Good luck!

Surgery is in TWO days!
You guys will do just fine. Take care of yourselves, and good luck!

Tomorrow, Tomorrow..you're only a day away!
@ and @@manji2013, you both are going to do fantastic! I remember that feeling, a mix of terrified and intensely excited, and very soon all that work will begin to pay off. I remember coming home two days after surgery and thinking "wow... it actually happened. I actually did this. It's done." It's a really profound kind of realization. I see surgery as a sort of hinge, after which your life takes an entirely new direction. You guys are both right at the hinge, and the whole other side is coming very soon! Just take it easy, be good to yourself, and listen to your doctors and nurses. All of us here have been where you are or are going to be soon, and we all are here to support you! Good luck to you both!

I ate about 6 tortellinis this morning! I'm having RNY TOMORROW AT 2:00! Oh Lord, what do I do? Should I try to throw up?!?
I would say you need to call your doctor right now and ask what you should do. There are really important medical reasons that your surgeon tells you to do and not do certain things. That being said, I've seen some people ordered to only have Clear liquids the day before and nothing after midnight, and some people who must have clear liquids for two weeks before surgery. It really all depends on your specific doctor, you you really should call him or her. Good luck!

Yeah approved for a revision!...But getting married in December...thoughts?
When I weighed myself last Wednesday, I had lost 8 pounds (ten days after surgery). Unfortunately my stupid scale is broken so I won't know how much more I've lost since then until tomorrow or the next day when I can get to my doctor's office.

I'm exactly two weeks out today (woohoo!) and I'm well on the way to feeling "normal". I get tired still but my pain is virtually gone, I can sleep curled up on my side like I always do, I went grocery shopping today and it was about 30 minutes of walking around, and I felt no pain, only a little fatigue. I think with that much extra time to recover, you will be perfectly fine! Just my opinion and experience though. Do what sounds and feels right to you, and what your doctor recommends. Congratulations on the several good things that are happening for you.

Apologies to the beans
Oh no, I'm sorry you're having to deal with this! That sounds like no fun at all. I actually had to keep my drain in until a week after I came home to prevent this very problem. I was absolutely despising my drain but I know why it was necessary. I wish I had some knowledge or experience about it to offer you some comfort, but I don't. It won't last forever! Take care of yourself, take it easy, and feel better soon!

R.A.P. protein
I can't speak for other surgeons/bariatric offices but mine told me it's important that anything I eat has less than 5 grams of sugar a serving. Also, gummy anything does not sit well with the pouch/sleeve. I wouldn't even try it because I'd rather just not risk it and it seems like it's not really worth the possible issues it could cause. D:

Gas pain
Hi Leroy! I'm 11 days post op and I had some pretty terrible gas pain for the first 5 days or so. I can tell you with confidence that it will get better every day. The worst is behind you. Just take it easy, be gentle and careful with yourself, get yourself some Gas-X strips and a heating pad, and everything will be fine very soon. I feel great! You will too, soon. Keep us posted.

Official August thread! Where are you guys?
I had my bypass ten days ago and I honestly haven't felt much of the fullness everyone keeps talking about. I get in 64 oz of water every day pretty easily, if slowly. I started pureed foods today and I got nauseous for the first time since surgery. Some people are saying they get super full after like an ounce of water. That just doesn't happen for me, and on top of that I do actually still feel hunger and cravings. I wonder if something is wrong with me. :/

Official August thread! Where are you guys?
I had this same feeling just 10 days ago. It's a crazy, amazing feeling. Everything's going to be great. you'll do great. Good luck!

Official August thread! Where are you guys?
It gets better! I'm 10 days post op and I got my staples and drain out today, and I'm moving on to pureed food. I feel like a million bucks! Well, a pooped out million bucks. XD congrats!

Surgery Drain Removal Ouch!?
Got my drain and staples out today... SO MUCH BETTER! it did actually hurt but that's because that whole area was raw from an allergic reaction to the tape. Not fun. But the doctor said everything looks perfect! Moving on to pureed foods now... O.o

Pre op liquid diet
My surgeon did not require any kind of preop diet other than two days of Clear liquids before surgery. I put myself on about a week of a Protein shake diet, with a small high protein meal twice during that time.

I am having a hard time finding ANYONE that's had surgery my age ????????
I'm doing great. Still pretty tired but I'm told that's normal. Yesterday was my one week post surgery. Besides the damn drain, which is hopefully coming out tomorrow, I'm feeling just fine. Getting extremely sick of the protein shakes though. :/
