  1. not eating can be just as detrimental as eating too much in terms of losing weight. Also... you lost almost 2 pounds a day for the first couple weeks. Your body is probably just going a little insane, thinking you're starving to death and dying, and is trying to preserve what fat stores you have. Just keep up with your water, protein, and vitamins, and you WILL start losing again. Just have to be patient. In a couple months the stalls with have meant nothing because you will catch up. I mean, you've lost 30 pounds in less than 30 days. That is NOT normal for our bodies, so it makes sense that they would need a little break every now and then. But you really, REALLY have to keep up with getting food and water into you. It's vital for your health, and that's the whole reason you had surgery in the first place. Don't stress!
  2. If the doctor can't give you a concrete medical reason that the sleeve would be better for you despite your desire for the RNY, I would be a little suspicious of his motives and skills. There are legitimate reasons some people should have the sleeve over the bypass but if he honestly can't give you any and is pushing something you don't want... I don't know if I would feel comfortable continuing at that office. This is your body and whichever procedure you get is going to change you and your life forever. It should be your decision if there are no medical reason's otherwise. That being said, there are a lot of people who start at a high bmi and have a lot of success with the sleeve, from what I've seen. I personally chose the RNY because my weight when I started the program was about 400 pounds and I wanted the most bang for my buck. Not to mention, a LOT of people who get the sleeve eventually have to revise to bypass anyway. One major surgery is enough for me.
  3. glad to hear things are looking up for you! take care
  4. Adele is my spirit sister.
  5. Funnily enough, I got my period unexpectedly last night and have bad cramps today. Huzzah!
  6. Have you tried doing a pouch reset? Just go back to liquids for a couple days, puree for a couple days, then back to healthy solids? That might at least help you get back on track with dealing with those hunger issues. Hope things get easier for you!
  7. I had similar issues in the beginning, but now I'm nearing 5 months out and it is much, much easier to know exactly when to stop and exactly when it's time to take another bite. It gets easier, just take this time to heal and learn your body's new language and you'll get there
  8. Sleep as much as humanly possible! Everything previous suggested, staying hydrated, cook your food with cumin and curry (known to increase your immune response) and sleep, sleep, sleep and you'll be okay.
  9. glad you've had such great experiences. And that you're healing well. Sounds like a great place.
  10. hello there! At three weeks post op, your nerves in your stomach are still healing, and therefor aren't really giving your brain the information it needs to know if you're stretching or hurting it. I had a similar experience with water. It felt like I could drink pretty normally. Then by about 5 or 6 weeks it slowed wayyyy down because my stomach could actually communicate that it was getting too full too fast. Stick with the baby sips for now. Once things heals and you slowly get back to a normal intake of food and water, you will know when you're actually able to take larger and more frequent sips. I can drink almost normally now at 4.5 months. Take care!
  11. I have PCOS so my periods have always been screwy. Before surgery, it had been years since I had an actual, normal period. Within two months after surgery, I got it finally but it was so crampy and painful, and then the next month I got the worst one of my life, and now I haven't had one in a couple months. Who even knows what's going on with my body right now? XD My doctor thinks it will eventually even out. We shall see.
  12. @@songsmith thanks for all that info!
  13. I'm having a weird sort of opposite change happening in my body shape. I always had basically no butt, but suddenly when i stand straight and look at myself sideways in the mirror, I have much more of a curve to my back and *gasp* an actual ass! I don't really understand the weird way my body is redistributing but I'm not going to question it. XD I do, however, lament the loss of my once-ample breasts. I still have a good amount of breast tissue/fat but the extra skin has made them pretty droopy. Still, again.. not complaining!
  14. For the first time in my life, I don't feel a forboding sense of urgency about my health and weight. I'm still significantly overweight but 2015 saw such huge improvements to my health, both physically and mentally, that my only goals as of now are to keep moving forward, and keep up this new trend of actually taking care of myself. Everything else can just come as it will.
  15. I ate a single cookie on my birthday (dec 22) over the course of 5 hours or so, about 4 ounces of white whine on Christmas day, and then small dark chocolate truffle on new years eve, also over a few hours. It was the first time I've deviated even a TINY bit from my post-op diet. As such, I felt sort of anxious about these three little slip-ups, but now I'm thinking it was a good thing I let myself have a little bit of a treat because I didn't gain anything, didn't get sick because I ate/drank extremely slow, and now I feel like I had my fun and I'm ready to continue down this long road toward my goal with renewed determination. It's a strange feeling to be able to have a treat that actually was actually just a treat, and didn't turn into a binge (or two, or 5) that made me sick and gain weight. I don't think I can remember the last time I was able to approach unhealthy, yummy food in a healthy way. Maybe never! Happy New Year everyone.
  16. yum! I should make this.
  17. I agree with @@Bertie16 - the Bariatric Advantage caramel ones are my favorite. It's like eating candy.
  18. So sorry for your loss.
  19. I wasn't cleared for fruit until like 3 months post op, mostly some are fibrous and are not safe for your healing stomach, and then of course there's the high sugar content that can make you dump. So far the only fruit I've tried that didn't bother me is a banana, and I could only eat about half of it. Your nutritionist didn't give you any guidelines?
  20. Smooth Move tea. If that fails, you may need to ask your doctor to prescribe something. Hope you feel better.
  21. No, I've been testing it with my mother's meter. They might want me to monitor it more closely when I go in February. as for what triggers it, it seems to be anytime I go too long without eating. I pretty much have to be eating constantly, small bites and verryyyyy slowly, but constantly. One of my bad eating habits that has been very hard to kick is not eating for long periods of time. Now it's not only unhealthy to do that but it makes me feel really sick/faint.
  22. I found that I just couldn't lay flat for the first couple weeks. I slept on our recliner with my feet up. So, so much more comfortable.
  23. I have been experiencing this as well! I hate it. I'm less than 5 months post-op so it's still difficult for me to get all my food in. I find that drinking a protein shake helps me for whatever reason. I have an appointment on Feb 9th, so I guess I'm just going to have to deal with it until then. :/ Hope you feel better!
  24. @@WLSResources/ClothingExch here's a before and current. I have already lost about 40 pounds in the before picture but it looks the same as when I was at my heaviest. All I've noticed it that its VERY slightly smaller, and slightly lower on my chest. Generally, it looks so similar to when I first got it that it's not even distinguishable. The hat is something I've been wearing for the past week because it was a hand-made gift and I'm in love with it. http://imgur.com/U2Py6CV
