Medications..... HELP!
Cervidae replied to inkdcosmoqueen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may not be today or tomorrow, but at some point in the future you could make yourself extremely sick or possibly even damage your bones/organs if you neglect your Vitamins. I've heard some horror stories harrowing enough to keep me taking them faithfully forever. -
6 days post opp RNY having hard time hitting liquid and protein goal
Cervidae replied to MnGirl40's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The milk or Water you're using in your Protein drinks counts towards your water goal. Sounds like you're doing just fine! It gets easier every day. -
Welcome! Any progress is good progress. Good luck!

First, don't be too hard on yourself. You're only human, and part of being human is sometimes making mistakes even after making huge progress. You will get there again. Second, I would highly recommend tracking your food with an app such as myfitnesspal. I'm betting you've done this before, but getting back to basics may be beneficial for you right now. Are you seeing a therapist? Or maybe attending a support group? It sounds like you know what you're doing but just need a little help getting back on track. Check into both of those things if you aren't already. It can make a world of difference to have that extra support and accountability. You'll get back to where you want to be! Be kind to yourself and remember why you've gone through all the hard work in the first place. Feel free to message me anytime if I can help at all, even just to lend an ear. I started above 400 pounds too. Good luck to you.

Welcome! Nice to have you here. Sounds like you are doing well and feeling healthy and happy.

Congrats! On the road to health and happiness. Happy for you!

Man, if this is your version is being bad, bad, bad, then I think you're probably doing a-okay.
-
It's partly because you're consuming things in liquid or pureed form, but mostly because your surgery is so fresh that the nerves in your stomach that were severed are not healed yet, you you may be full and just not be feeling it. Take extra care in this stage not to overeat or drink too fast! You could damage your stomach or hurt yourself trying to find that full feeling that just won't be there yet. That's why I ate exactly what I measured and no more, and then when the feeling came back I sometimes would eat less, feel full, take a break, and come back to it. How are you doing otherwise? Healing well? Able to move around a bit?
-
Not quite, but I can see it on the horizon. I'm about 50 pounds from my goal and wear a size 16. Congrats to you! I can't wait to be there.

Welcome! I'm another young'n like you. I had my RNY last August (I was 23), and also a student. I've had great success and I'm now happy and healthy and have my whole life ahead of me! If I can help at all, feel free to message me! I'm also on Facebook if you'd like to friend me there. Good luck to you! Now is the time to reclaim your health before years of damage take their toll on you. Be prepared for a HUGE life change and the huge effort and dedication this takes, as well as for the changes that are coming that you may not have expected, and you'll do great.

What’s the Most Awkward Part of WLS?
Cervidae replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh! I also dropped my pants once in Walmart... they were on one moment and on the floor around my knees the next. I was there to get smaller pants/leggings, and I was just a bit late I suppose. Luckily, only my boyfriend saw and I was in the small isle's in the women's section, so I was pretty covered. -
What’s the Most Awkward Part of WLS?
Cervidae replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thankfully, most of my "moments" have been from well-meaning family and friends who just said or did something they didn't realize would be humiliating for me. Earlier this year, my boyfriend's mother, who has always been kind and supportive of me, said "you look great! I mean... you were huge before! HUGE." I know she meant to just convey her shock at how different I looked and how impressed she was at the change, but she said that in front of three other people and everyone sort of looked away, embarrassed even though she never realized that she had said something that bothered me. Still, I know she meant well and she's been so proud and supportive of me, so I try to remember these things when she says something crazy like that. Then last week, I wore a one piece bathing suit without a skirt to the Y for the first time in... maybe 15 years. Everyone at the pool could see my copious extra thigh skin, and of course my arm flappies (as I call them), but I didn't have any other suit that fit me. I was super embarrassed at first but then the only people who recognized me were nothing but completely overjoyed and proud of me, as I've lost maybe 40 pounds since I last saw them. So I think I'm MUCH more cognizant of it than others are. -
I had my RNY in August of last year, so I'm almost exactly a year ahead of you. If I can help at all, feel free to message or friend me. Good luck! You'll do great.

Hashimotos Thyroid disease and bypass
Cervidae replied to rusticlemon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! Congratulations! It makes me so happy to see that you are no longer suffering and are now happy and healthy. So excited for you and the awesome life ahead. -
11 months post-RNY today. I did my usual weighing/measuring/etc, and though I only lost 6 pounds in the last month, I did lose a couple inches. Plodding along now...
I've lost 168 since surgery and at least 223 pounds overall. I have not made the goal weight that I had for myself at the beginning of this year, and I'm still 219 pounds, but I now realize that I truly don't care. I'm healthy, happy, and I don't hate the way I look in the mirror. Everything that comes after this is just gravy.

Which Food Did (Or Will) You Miss the Most?
Cervidae replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
My list of things I miss is a bunch of carbs - macaroni and cheese (the homemade kind with cheese), ramen noodles, warm, freshly baked bread, and a giant bowl of chex, frosted flakes, or fruity pebbles. Fortunately, my snack favorites like almonds and roasted chickpeas are still easily tolerable and good for me, so that's nice. -
I've never said anything about my surgery on social media. Actually, only a select few people know in my circle of friends and family anyway. I was on vacation in San Diego a few months ago and had sooo many pictures being taken of me, and it was at that time that I realized I no longer hated the way I looked in pictures. Yeah, I'm still fat, but I actually like the way I look. I actually feel like myself, and you could see by my smile in these pictures that I was genuinely happy. So I showed a ton of full body pictures on Facebook while I was on vacation, slipping them in here and there with my zoo pictures and my beach pictures. I got a few stunned and congratulatory questions/comments but mostly, people were just happy I was happy. I don't think I ever will tell people about my surgery, but I will certainly be showing people.

I just need to point a couple things out. First, the odds of having serious or long last complications if you use an experienced, well-reviewed surgeon who knows what he/she is doing are extremely low. The risk of death is even lower. Tiny. The chance of dying decades early from complications related to obesity is huge. Almost inevitable. Second, things have changed in the last 10-15 years. The surgeries are safer and more understood, with more long-term data and so on. Someone who gets their surgery today has significantly less risk than they would have been taking even a few years ago. There is always going to be a story about someone's mother's friend's dog's babysitter's uncle's sister who had some rare complication and died, but how many stories do you hear about the successes? Better yet, how many people do you pass on the street who had surgery, lost their weight, and are now maintaining healthy lives and you simply don't know about it? Without personally knowing someone who had either success or failure, how could you know why they failed? Was it a freak accident, or was it some kind of issue brought on by unhealthy actions post-op? Honestly, in 2 years of research and literally thousands of people I've come across, it's rare that complications just "happen", especially nowadays. You do occasionally come across an unlucky soul who just had terrible luck. It does happen. But usually, it's totally related to a patient error, like eating too much/wrong things, taking nsaids and getting ulcers, smoking, etc. In the end, there is always a risk. But the tiny risk here is surgery, as opposed to the huge risk of remaining obese. You have to decide if it's worth it or if you're willing and able to take that leap. It's scary! But you can do it, you can do anything you believe you can do, and there will always be people here to support you and Celebrate your achievements, as well as people to mourn and commiserate with. Good luck to you! It's rarely an easy decision but whatever you chose, I wish you nothing but health and happiness.

Is something wrong with me?
Cervidae replied to KariLovesColorado's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@@KariLovesColorado go for lean meats/cheese, Soups without noodles in them, cottage cheese and yogurt, scrambled eggs, and the like. I wasn't allowed to eat salad until like 3 months out as well, and I still don't eat it often because it fills my stomach up and prevents me from getting in Protein, which I'm only now doing easily. When I crave veggie crunch, I eat pickle slices, banana peppers, or some onions with my lean protein. It helps a lot to break up the monotony and puts some extra Fiber into my diet. -
What NSVs are you looking forward to?
Cervidae replied to Deehovey's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@Deehovey we're all adults here! Sex is a normal and natural part of life, and it's no secret that losing weight affects it in a lot of ways, physical and emotional alike. Let me just say (here's a little more tmi lol!) that as a woman, being on top for the first time was unnerving but ultimately an experience I will never forget. I was missing out! -
We need a "like" button on status updates
Cervidae replied to kmorri's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
Good idea! Good way to show agreement or support without having to write out a comment. I would enjoy the use of a like button. -
This honestly disturbs me. There were two threads about this not too long ago and people got MAD when I said it seems like medically assisted bulimia. Still, though I find it gross and altogether sort of messed up, if it helps people, more power to them... I'm sticking with my bypass and happy to do so.
