  1. Thanks for all the replies. The idea of diluting the Power Aid zero with Water and adding Crystal Light is on my list. Also, looking at ordering the Energyn C to have on hand.

I am going to lay off the Power Aid for awhile and drink Water and Walmart Clear American carbonated water. I am shaking the bottle several times and taking the lid off which removes most of the carbonation and letting set and pouring over ice.

I have found no research proof that carbonation in moderation (or even more) will stretch the sleeve. In fact several on line doctors say carbonation is in the same category as drinking from a straw, a myth. Physically stretching the sleeve is difficult, maybe impossible. We should not confuse the stomach healing and swelling going down with the sleeve enlarging. Also, your new stomach becomes much more efficient at beginning the digestive process and moving food to the small intestine which simply means you will not feel full as long as you used to. All normal and has nothing to do with the sleeve stretching. Learning to eat right and watching calories is a life goal.

Now having said this, obviously plain water (and maybe adding some crystal light or Energyn C) is better for you.

Good day to all and enjoy your journey.

    Life is great!

    Steve

  2. Been a great five plus months. Started at 317 and now down to 220.

I drink a lot of Power Aid Zero, probably 4 or 5 of the 32 oz. drinks a day. I gave up all carbonated drinks.

I am feeling nervous/figity of an evening and believe I am consuming to much sodium.

I used to enjoy the Walmart zero calorie zero sodium Clear American drinks but they are carbonated.

Your thoughts on carbonation after Sleeve?

    Thanks

  3. Should have added that I am taking 1500 mg Calcium and Vitamin D.

I have seen the Flintstone plus Iron mentioned several times.

The only complaint/concern I have had about my clinic is that they sell/push Protein and Vitamins at marked up prices.

Some friends that have had the sleeve are not even required to take vitamin/minerals. I am 67 and probably need to be on vitamins/minerals anyway.

Thank you for the replies. Off to get some Flintstones, "Yabba dabba du".

    Thanks

    Steve

  4. Eight weeks out and tired of the chewable vitamins. NUT says to be sure Vitamins are "bariatric specific". Currently taking chewable Celebrate Multi-Complete 36 with Iron. Clinic sells vitamins and will not recommend any vitamins other than the ones they sell. I'm located a ways away from the clinic and hope I can find a Vitamin.< /p>

    OTC locally.

Not sure what "bariatric specific" means either??

Want a vitamine I do not have to chew but must have iron or I need to take an additional iron tablet.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  5. I'm almost 6 months out and have been dealing with this for about a month.

For me is not from dehydration, my dr did blood work and so far no word on the results.

It's also not from BP meds.

For me it happens while laying on my left side and I Hate it!! I just want to lay down or roll over without the world spinning. It really messes up staying asleep and getting a good nights rest.

They have exercises to put your equilibrium back on track. I've started them yesterday.

Thanks for the you tube link. Found a simple procedure where you lay across the bed on your back and let your head hang back for 60 seconds, then bring your chin up to your chest for 60 seconds (a second person helps), then set up straight for 60 seconds (do not move head). Very affective for me.

Just went to a Physical Therapist and he performed a much more involved procedure that has left me very dizzy. Going to go back to the simple procedure.

Just performed simple procedure and feel much better.

  6. Three weeks post op and experienced vertigo. Rolled over in bed and the world did three revolutions.

Going to see primary care tomorrow as I am still a little off balance and dizzy.

Called NUT and asked if the 1500 mg of Calcium could be the problem since Calcium in the inner ear Fluid is the likely cause of vertigo. NUT said probably not.

    Anyone else experiencing vertigo?

  7. So today by 6pm l had two Celebrity 8 oz shakes spread over 8 hours. At six pm I felt hungry and had an eight oz. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shake. So in summary I have had 93 g. of Protein and 670 calories because I mix my shakes with 1% milk (100 calories per 8 oz shake).

It's been hot here today and I had 4 Poweraid 20 oz. drinks.

    Summary

    670 calories

    93 grams of Protein

And 104 oz. of liquid counting the milk

I feel full now and do not feel like I need anything more before bed in about two hours.

Are these quantities acceptable or do I need to cut back on the 1% milk or stop the Celebrity since it contains 60 calories more than Unjury? I am three days out from surgery and almost off pain meds and starting to feel really good.

Am I exceeding a reasonable calorie limit?

  8. The base I mix my Protein with makes a big difference in how much I can consume. Mix with 1% milk and two oz. an hour is about tops. Mix with Powerpro Zero (20 oz.) and I can drink an entire bottle (21g.protein) easily in an hour, which is not a good thing for many reasons.

I have not gone back to Premier Protein shakes from Sams yet but I am sure they will be thick enough to really slow down my intake.

After I am cleared for soft foods or puréed I plan to try some non processed shakes like recommended by Dr. Weiner. One in particular I have tried that is very good is one half banana, one cup low fat Greek yougurt (around 100 calories) and three tablespoons of PB2. This shake is close to all natural and 20 plus grams of Protein. It tastes great! Calories around 260.

  9. Just got woke up and had a two oz. serving of Celebrate Royal Choclate mixed with 1% milk. After my two oz. portion I was comfortable. I think mixing Protein with 1% milk is for me the correct way to get my Protein. I measured out 4 two oz. portions which will give me 34 g. of protein over the next four hours.

Waited awhile and now sipping Poweraid Zero.

I made a mistake yesterday when I mixed the protein with Poweraid Zero which allowed me to drink this thin mixture way to fast.

    Life is good!

  10. Just talked to my NUT and will share what he said. Mixing the Protein with a thin liquid will let it go through your stomach much faster and the downside is the stomach does not get to spend much time getting the food ready for the small intestine. He prefers mixing the Protein with Skim or 1% milk if you can tolerate milk ,which I can. The thicker shake will give the stomach more time to prepare the protein food to flow into the small intestine.

This makes since to me because I just prepared a Protein Shake with 1% milk and after 2 or 3 ounces I was feeling fullness.

So I am going to get my protein in with milk and get my other Fluid only drinks Crystal Light and Poweraid. Room temperature Water does not taste good to me and I am staying away from hot/cold liquids.

  11. The routine given me to follow after surgery was to drink 2oz. of Protein at the top of the hour and 1 oz. of water/Power pro Zero at 15, 30, and 45 minutes past the hour. I thought this was all my new stomach could handle.

When i got up this morning I prepared a 20 oz. Power pro Zero with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored (amounting to 21 grams of Protein. I comfortably drank this in just over 30 minutes. I had the sleeve two days ago. Hospital just called to check on me and when I told her what I did she said to go back to the regimen of only two oz. protein followed by 3 1oz. servings of liquid every hour.

Any of you following this routine and how important is this routine to follow. My life is very busy and trying to drink 2,1,1,1oz. over an hour is just not going to work for me. I was actually thirsty this morning and the liquid Protein Drink was actually very satisfying.

    Thanks

  12. @@P7rancher There's no misunderstanding - many have clear liquid diets pre-op - for varying time frames.

Trying to go on a clear liquid diet for more than the day before surgery would be a tough requirement and it's easy to see how this could make someone weak. My concern was and is that there is confusion over the clear liquid diet the day before surgery which everyone has to follow and the pre op diet leading up to the day before surgery which can vary. My day before clear liquid diet excluded Protein drinks and emphasized Clear Liquids like chicken broth and Poweraid Zero.

As a "newby" I understand how confusing terminology can be and just wanted to be clear on the distinction between a pre op diet leading up to surgery and the day before diet.

  13. I think there is a misunderstanding by some on the pre op diet. My pre op diet was not liquid only. It was two Protein drinks, a couple of low fat Snacks and a meal that included lean Protein like fish or chicken (4oz), a small salad an small portion of fruit. The all clear liquid diet was just the day before surgery. In no any did this diet plan mak me feel weak. In fact I felt great.

In summary I had a low fat, high protein ,low carb diet (not liquids only) for two weeks before surgery. The clear liquid only was the day before surgery only. This diet sequence eliminated the "last meal syndrome" and prepared me for my new life.

It just makes perfect sense to start eating correct before surgery and it resulted in me losing 12 lbs. before surgery. Shrinking the liver is an important part of pre op.
