I had the same exact fears before surgery. Before the band, I wasn't really able to tell the difference between hunger and a craving. I never felt full pre-op...always felt hungry...always wanted more to eat. I'm 4 months out now and I am amazed that for the first time in my life I am able to control my weight without feeling like I'm starving. I still have cravings...but the cravings are much easier to fight without feeling hungry all the time.

Just a guess...But you are still in "Bandster Hell". Let me put a few of your fears to rest. I have been banded for four months. I am at my "sweet spot". I have lost lots of weight. I can eat basically everything I ate before I got banded. I have only gotten "stuck" on chewy chicken wings...and when I have eaten too quickly. I sometimes miss not being able to eat more...but I feel full quickly...which is the whole point of being a bandster. The only cravings that I have to worry about now are liquid calories. I love my band. I can eat small portions of almost everything. I have a QP without bun occasionaly. It's not the best thing you can eat, but I wouldn't call it a failure. The first fill will probably help. Being a banster is all about finding your "sweet spot". Hopefully it's not that serious. She is only one week post op. I was very emotional after surgery as well. I was frightened I'd feel like I was on a diet for the rest of my life. Instead the band just makes me feel full quickly. .

You are describing my worst fear. I would be so upset. I'm so sorry, that must be horrible. There must be something physically wrong... The diet you describe above seems quite modest. I would go to the doctor...even though it could just be a temporary plateau. Not knowing your caloric intake could also be the problem. For example, last month I stopped losing weight all of a sudden. After three weeks I had lost nothing. Then I tried one thing to solve the problem...I stopped getting my morning and afternoon mochas from the coffeeshop that is conveniently located next door to my work. I lost a pound the next day. ...and I continue to lose now that I get Iced Coffees with Low fat milk and sugar instead. It turns out those Mochas have like 800 calories! I knew they werent low fat...but I'd never have guessed 800 calories each.

Congrats Allison! Dont'cha just love being a bandster?:w00t: My guess is Allison found her "sweet spot" quickly. I dunno for sure cuz the band works differently for everyone... But in my situation I found my sweet spot about 3 months after surgery...so the pounds have just flown off.

My experience as a bandster has been that I lose my appetite for anything that gets stuck. I'm pretty lucky. I can eat beef, chicken, etc. But one time...I got stuck on very chewy bbq chicken wings... and I will never try to eat those again! .

I'm not a doctor, but I would guess that you are passing out due to dehydration and rapid weight loss. I had this happen to me about ten years ago when I was on one of my starvation diets. One moment I was fine...the next moment everything would go grey and my vision would get distorted for a few seconds...then suddenly it would clear up and go away. It happened quite a few times, but only twice (when I came down with a cold) did I actually faint and fall to the floor. I think the fact that you were eating both times is probably just a coincidence...but you should definately talk to your doctor about it just in case I'm wrong.

...and I feel great! I'm down about 20 lbs since surgery and feel almost no hunger (even without a fill). I still have cravings for food, but not being hungry really helps control the craving. I feel healthier and find it much easier to get around then I used to. I have had a few minor NSV's: the seatbelt in my car has more slack, my jeans are getting baggy, and my large bath towel wraps around my body better than it used to.

Had surgery on the 2nd, went home same day. Days 2-4 were the most difficult to get through. It's now been 13 days since surgery and I feel 100% recovered (except for a few scabs on my scars). Now I just have to wait for the first fill...

I don't think it really had an effect. The scars are in different places. The gall bladder suregery had a scar in near the belly button and around the lower stomach...with only a few upper incisions. The lapband incisions are all at least one inch above the belly button and much easier to deal with that the GB incisions. For example, I can wear jeans and the waistband doesnt hit any of the incisions. I doubt it would make a difference...I'm sure the Surgeon would have mentioned it if it was an issue.:purplebananna:

Oh man, I can relate! I have the gurgles...big time. It's day 4 post op for me and I'm really starting to feel better. I am up and doing light chores around the house, wearing normal clothes (instead of a nightgown), and walking my dog. Last night I was able to sleep on my side for the 1st time since the operation. The difficulties currently are a gurgling stomach, ZERO appetite (really hard to drink those protien shakes), and a general sadness that I cant eat chili, bbq chicken, or a salad yet. :regular_smile: It's really remarkable how full I get on such a small amount of food. I hope this feeling stays and isn't just a post op lack of appetite. I think it must be the band because when I had surgery before (gall bladder) I was ravenous by the second day after the operation. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that this band will continue to make me feel full on such a small amout of food.

Hey there... I had surgery on the 2nd at noon. I'm told surgery took about 20 minutes. I woke up as they were wheeling me out of the Operating Room. I was groggy but felt fine. Had some minor gas pain and a sore throat. Once I walked around the gas pain subsided. The pain meds numbed the sore throat. I was released from the hospital at 7pm and home by 8. Since I have been home I have been walking and the gas pain from surgery is gone. I have zero appetite and its hard to drink the Protein powder. My stomach is gurgling a bit, but I don't have nausia and I'm not hungry. I do enjoy drinking the broth though...feels good on my sore throat. I do have a little back pain from getting up and down out of chairs and the bed, and from sleeping on my back. I'm a side/stomach sleeper...so laying on my back to sleep has been the hardest part of the whole ordeal.

Your words express my feelings exactly. Had surgery this morning...I'm at home now...and other than a sore throat, I feel great!

If you have the same experience I just had, things will move FAST after insurance approval. I got a call the day after it was approved and had my pre-op appt scheduled the following week. I just got released from the hospital (had surgery with Dr Yarborogh earlier today). I feel great! Dr Yarborough is fantastic. Everyone at the hospital, the nurses, CNA's, and the anesthesiologist....they were all great! :huh2:
