Any Alabama sleevers?
StephBtoo replied to Monnie815's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm Monnie815 I guess there are not many of us from AL since this only got a couple of responses, a couple of weeks ago. I live in south AL (below Montgomery, above FL state line) but I'm having my surgery in Huntsville with Dr. Mailapur. (My parents live in Huntsville and I'm going to stay with them and let my mama take care of me When is your surgery? I don't have a date yet but it will probably be the end of Aug or the first of Sept. -
Preop liquid diet
StephBtoo replied to doubledinfla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay so now I feel a little guilty that my pre-op diet isn't that bad... 2 weeks before surgery. He only wants me to lose 5-7 lbs pre-surgery so I won't go below my 40 BMI. Breakfast and lunch - 2 high Protein, low carb shakes (min 20 grams protein and 5 grams or less carb per serving). dinner - 4-6 oz of skinless chicken or turkey; pork or lamb; fish or eggs. meats should be baked, broiled, grilled, roasted or braised (any way EXCEPT fried). Plus 1/2-1 cup non-starchy vegetables (green Beans, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, mushrooms, cucumbers, spinach, kale, green peppers, or greens) or a salad of mixed greens (use the smallest amt of regular salad dressing -- non-fat dressing have more carbs). OR 3 high protein meals (~ 4-6 oz of protein) per day. Drink at least 64 oz of sugar, caffeine, and carbonation free fluids. Choices include broth, sf Jell-O, sf Popsicles, Crystal Lite, Diet Snapple, Water, propel (limit 1 per day), sf/caffeine free tea. He gave me a list of shake products to choose from but when I ask him about 1 I already had that wasn't on the list, he said as long as it had 20 gr or more of protein and 5 or less gr of carbs, it is fine!!! His list named the product, said how much protein it had and even listed the average price and size it comes in. He also included a list of places to find the protein shakes!! I am very pleased with Dr. Mailapur's instructions so far!!! I also received a ~ 80 pg guide with information for pre and post surgery, eating recommendation for post surgery, etc... Between now and the surgery I also have to complete a 6 hr. class that covers nutrition and pre-surgery information. Since I'm 6 hrs away from where I'm going to have my surgery, I'll have my class right before the surgery so I don't have to make a special trip for the class. I haven't started the pre-op diet yet (as I don't want to lose too much) but I am NOT bingeing on stuff I won't be able to have soon... I'm ready to get going on this so I can be healthy again!! I'll try not to complain when I'm on it since some of you have it much tougher.... -
msinnapa I'm with you on this!! I have to get a heart monitor next week and wear it for 48 hours and then because the local cardiologist will be out of town for a week I have to wait until Aug 14th for the stress test... then wait until the 20th for my appointment with the cardiologist... sigh... hurry up and wait seems to be par for the course!!! My surgeon for the sleeve is 6 hrs away so most of my interaction is through email at the moment. I sent the nurse this info about the cardiologist yesterday (I'll probably hear back Monday) so I don't know if this affects anything yet? I don't have a surgery date yet anyway, waiting for the approval paperwork back from insurance (I was told verbally yesterday that I have been approved --- yaaaaayyy). LOL patience is NOT my strong suit... I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!! Steph

I want to play with this group!! I am brand new to this site, joined yesterday and have been lurking and reading from all the wonderful information being shared!! I'm 51, awaiting my official approval (insurance company told me today on the phone I'm approved and my letter is "going out"...), I don't have a surgery date yet... I still have one more hurdle to get over - a stress test - and the cardiologist is going to have me wear a monitor next week for a potential murmur or palpitation?? and the then I'll have the stress test Aug 14th... so I know surgery will be after that. I am traveling 6 hours away for my surgery so I won't be in a local support group (at least not regularly)... The surgery will be in Huntsville, AL where my parents live so mom can take care of me post-op (I'm not dumb, I know a good thing when I see it!!!) My mom is a much better care taker than my hubby or 17 yr old son who would spend more time wanting to know when I'll be back to taking care of them This is ALL about me!!! Steph
