Lol...I know what you mean, I've had to throw out all my old undies too. I've donated 2 large trash bags of clothes and I'm working on a third. It sucks to have to replace an entire wardrobe, but it's nice to be able to buy normal size clothes again. I've been shopping in the plus size section for over 20 years!

It took awhile for them to figuer out what was wrong with me. I had to keep a food journal for a couple of weeks and then it was still just a lucky guess cause nothing else made sense. I'm glad they figure it out though for both of us.

It was pretty painless and worked like a charm. It's basically the same as an endoscopy. I went in at 7 and was home before lunchtime. Before the dilation I was throwing up a few times a day and I was hungry all the time cause I wasn't keeping anything down. Now my digestive system has normalized, and I hardly ever throw up. Every once in awhile I'll eat too fast or meat thats too dry and it won't stay down. But other than that I feel great.

I had a similar vomitting problem, but mine turned out to be a stricture. After they did a balloon dilation I felt much better. They told me that my stricture was so tight that they couldn't dilate it as much as they wanted to, so I might have to go back and do it again if I start having issues again. So far so good though.

I just got rid of a bunch of clothes too. 16 fit really well for now, but that was only one month after the 18's fit really well. I've even had to buy new scrubs for work cause I couldn't find any at the thrift store. Scrubs are so expensive that even though I want to lose more weight I kind of want to stay this size for awhile...lol.

The food just came up. I didn't have to force it, but sometimes throwing up would make me gag a little.

3 week post Op Question

I wore my belly binder to sleep for almost a month...that helped keep back pain down some. -
How long will this pain and discomfort last
SybrgreenTX replied to Niki15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Crackers worked better for me than bread or toast early on... well even now(4 months post-op). Also 3 bites is a bit much...you have to think my pouch is the size of my thumb that's 2 bites max. My doc said he would rather I eat 2 bites every couple of hours than eat too much at one sitting. Don't get discouraged though, the first couple of months are the worst, because your healing, and then adjusting to your new life. After that you get used to what you can eat, and how much you can eat, and things are much easier. -
Start donating the clothes that don't fit anymore. Some second-hand store will also buy your gently use clothes depending on the brand and condition. I'm heading to the local Salvation army store today with a bundle of clothes that don't fit anymore. I don't buy name brand clothes so I can't do the resale thing.

The only meat I seem to have trouble with consistently is pork chops even if they're moist. I did forget, and ate a peach with the skin on once, and that was a disaster. I threw up several times befor it all came back up. Most of the time what makes me threw up is eating too much, but that is a very rare thing for me.

6 weeks and wanting food
SybrgreenTX replied to shelleylester's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Popcorn is a good salty snack. They have these 100 cal mini-bags that are the perfect size. I have a sunflower seed addiction, that my surgeon said was not bad. I have to becareful though, because I tend to graze on them. Which that is a very bad habit. I also eat chicken salad on whole grain ritz crackers. Or ham and cheese on WG ritz.I have had tacobell post surgery (like one crunch taco or a few chip from the nachobell grande), but that was about 3 month post-op. I had a corn dog today for lunch so don't lose hope normal will return, just in much smaller sizes. -
Do I need a Pizza Funeral
SybrgreenTX replied to ShareeB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm about 4 month post-op and I have had pizza several times with out too much trouble. It has to be thin crust and I can only have one little square, but it doesn't make me throw up or anything. I waited maybe 2 months after surgery befor I tried a slice. Everyone is different though, so you'll have to test the waters for yourself to see what you can handle. Just don't over do it. Good luck! -
I'm about 4 month out and my hair just started to fall out a little. No patches though. My hair has always been thin, and the longer it is the thinner it gets. I had to cut it shoulder length, and I've noticed less hair loss. Keeping it short helps. I also use a leave in conditioner that is meant to strengthen and repair damaged hair. It's called infusium 23. I have noticed my hair falls out less when I use it.

Anyone else backed up?
SybrgreenTX replied to newnewme4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your bowel movements change after surgery. I'm about 4 months out and I maybe have 2 bm's a week if I'm lucky. As long as you're not forcing it out when it happens you really don't need to take anything. But if you are having an issue with hard stool my surgeon recommended miralax or milk of magnesia. Taking Fiber regularly helps too. -
I hate clothes shopping, but with this rapid weight loss it's unavoidable. I'm 4 months post-op and have been buying clothes every other month. Goodwill and thrift shops are good for finding cheap clothes while you transittion. I went from a size 26 (jeans) to size 16 in 4 months and the clothes I bought for work (XL scrubb pant) are now falling off my butt. So I refuse to buy new clothes. Last weekend I bought 4 pairs of jeans for 20$ and a thrift shop, so if they don't fit in a month or two it's no big deal. I highly recommend it especially since thrift shop clothes have been broken in a bit it's easier to get into that next level smaller size that might be a little snug brand new. I complain about my clothes all the time, but it is a great problem to have, annoying as it might be.

Hello everyone, I had my surgery in March (Gastric Bypass). I was diabetic with thyroid issues like a lot of people in my family. I just turned 37 and before my surgery I was in constant pain. I would come home from work limping and in tears. I was also taking so much insulin I was having chest pains and it still wasn't enough to control my glucose levels. Since surgery my glucose levels are stable without insulin. I come home from work happy and in a lot less pain. There's always a little pain after standing for 10 hours, but it's tolerable. I joined these forums because I have questions, and even though I know a lot of people who have had this procedure I am a very private person. I am not alway comfortable asking certain question if I feel like there might be judgment involved. Not that there would be, my friends are very kind and understanding people. Just one of my own little mental hang ups I guess. Well, I look foward to getting to know y'all through the forum and feel free to ask me any questions. Have a great day!

Impatient hombre wanting to borrow some of your wisdom.

My job does not have a light duty option, so my doctor didn't release me back to work for 6 weeks. I was okay when I got back, but it did take awhile to get back into the routines at work. I had lost about 30lbs by the time I went back so I had to buy new pants. I still wear the same tops though, because I'm cheap and don't want to buy new clothes till me weight loss stablizes. I love Water so not being able to gulp it down did take some getting use to. I haven't had a protien shake in months, because sipping protien shakes takes forever and they get gross after awhile...that and my stomach doen't like cold liquids too much anymore. I still can eat popsickles and ice cream (low carb, sugar-free of course) though go figure. I did have a problem staying hydrated at first, but it's gotten better with time. I also bought a few shirts and jeans at the local thrift store while I'm losing weight so quickly. I'm not spend a lot of money on clothes that won't fit next month weither I can afford it or not, but that's just me. There are these broths that are protien infused called protiwise that are pretty good. When you start eating solids remeber to eat slow and chew your food until it's the consistancy of baby food. The amount of food I can eat still surprises me. 2 or 3 bites and I'm full and if I eat that 4th bite I lose it all so I just stop. I don't have a problem eating at work or infront of people. Most people don't pay attention to what you eat cause they are busy eating their food. Just becareful, people may not notice you picking at your food to get to the meat, but they do notice when you bolt out of your seat and jet to the bathroom to throw up cause you ate too fast or too much. I know everyone is kind of all about the weight loss because I mean really that's why we're here, but don't weigh yourself everyday. Try maybe every two weeks or once a week at most...and try and weigh yourself on the same day of the week at the same time of day. Your weight fluctuates throughout the day so maintaning the same day of the week and time of day will give you the most accurate record of weight loss. Another surprising thing for me was still being tired all the time. Exercize helps, but give your body time to adjust to the new way it has to burn fuel. Be patient with yourself and be open an honest with your doctors. If your having a problem they need to know about it otherwise they can't help you. This has not been any easy fix for me but it has fixed a number of health problems I was having. It was by far the best decision I've ever made. I'm glad I had my bypass, and for the first time in a long time I can finally enjoy my life without so much pain and discomfort. I hope all goes well with your surgery. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. -
When to worry about vomiting from food stuck?
SybrgreenTX replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a problem keeping food down when I hit my 2 month mark. It turned out to be a stricture. Since the stricture was fixed I was much better. I will tell you this though you have to listen when your body starts letting you know its full. Even if its after two bites stop. I freaked out about that too, but what I do is I'll stop after the 2 or 3 bites and wait and concentrate on how my stomach feels. If I feel full I stop and give the rest of my food to my dogs. I usually eat again a few hours later if I'm hungry. My doc had my keep a food journal for awhile so I could see what foods made me sick, it helps. She also said it's better to eat more frequently then to eat too much. I know....how in the world is 4 bites too much right. Well with an egg size pouch sometime 4 bites is too much with solid foods. I don't have a problen with deli meats at all, but dry meats don't stay down sometimes. I would suggest keeping a food journal and taking it with you when you see your doctor. It helps them too; to identify patterns and see if you might need to be check for a stricture. Just a suggestion...hope it's helpful. -
I'm about 4 months post op. I still feel tired most of the time and during my time of the month it's a hundred times worse(sorry TMI I know right). I feel better when I excersize, but I'm not consistent with it. The thing you have to remember is you are not getting a ready to use source of energy anymore. All of your sugar has to be broken down from your fat storage. So don't get discouraged it takes time to adjust, but it is so worth it. Make sure to keep up with your vitamins and give yourself time to adjust to your new body.

Road Trip - Is it safe?
SybrgreenTX replied to kmoeko's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took a 3 driving hour trip about a week after surgey. It was ok. I didn't drive of course, and I had to wear the belly wrap, and we had to stop a time or two more than usual, but there were not complications. Everyone is diifferent though, some heal quicker than others. I would ask your surgeon and then wait and see how you feel that day. If you decide to go, I would suggest taking the belly wrap and your pain meds just in case, and maybe a memory foam pillow. -
Diabetics and bypass patients
SybrgreenTX replied to RNY DC's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My A1C was 14.9 at its highest. I was taking humalog 50/50 and not having much glucose control. 2 days after sugery my glucose was good enough that they stopped giving me insulin in the hospital, and I haven't taken any since then. My currect A1C (this month actully) 5.5! Best decision ever!
