Reaction to Chinese food!! - - Help!!

I love chinese too, but since I've been banded it's the soup only for me. Even healthier dishes like sliced chicken & mixed veggies get stuck no matter how much chewing I do. Between the loss of that option, and pizza being even worse, I now cringe when DH suggests take out-- now that's just not right!

Keep on rockin' that scale chickie!

    Whats wrong with this picture?

Like it's been said here a thousand times before: you have to get the fill level right before the hunger subsides and the weight loss begins. Maybe if you ladies have the bigger bands you need more fills. If, however, you are restricted and eating just a little and still not losing weight, that is weird. The band won't do it for you though just because it's in there, if you feel restriction and eat according to the restriction, how could you not lose weight? I don't get it. Maybe flouro is the way to go for some more info............

    Road to Onederland Challenge!

I don't know what has happened to me since the onederland challenge -- not that I'm complaining -- but I tried so hard to go from 203 to 199 for months....now all of a sudden, I've gone from 203 to 196 in a week and a half! I guess your body just has to be ready to lose. I think it's all a game of catch up. Sometimes you can diet/exercise all you want, but your body has to be good & ready to let go of the poundage. It's always ready to GAIN poundage though! Not fair! So much easier to gain than lose.......

Dear God, Plz hlp my Reeces addiction

OK, I too am a Reeses addict.......Lately though when I NEEDED it, I bought the SMALL bag of reeses pieces. Split them 5 ways (btw me & my 4 kids) and ate my mini serving VERY SLOWLY loving every second of it. I figure 5 resses pieces can't be too bad. After all they were ET's favorite and look at his BMI..........

When did you start to see a change?

I really noticed a difference after I had lost 40 pounds. It wasn't immediate and it was more like I noticed the difference after the weight loss slowed and the inches caught up. I do think it depends on the person and how/where you carry your weight. I have to say though, sometimes I think more people should notice the difference and comment on it. I went from a size 22 to a 16 and down from a 44DD to a 38D, even my shoe size changed! I think that when you have been really heavy though, people don't even want to bring up your weight........so I take pride in my accomplishment and know that I look alot better than I did, and the people that know me and know I have a band comment on my progress all the time, so that's great!
  7. Yup, hot liquids, and I'd stay on liquids tomorrow too. You have to get in to see your doc if it doesn't improve by then..............sorry that happened to you. Hang in there.

Does the way restriction feel change over time?

I'm not sure I'm a veteran, but I have to say that my restiction changes from time to time. Aunt Flo & water weight being one of the main reasons. Overall though, I would say that I'm in the same range of restriction -- I don't go from super tight to no restriction at all; but one day chicken might be a "no" whereas the next day it might be a "yes".......I'm glad you are checking with your Doc, but the band is very fickle in my opinion and the variance in your restriction doesn't sound uncommon to me except maybe for the extremity of the change........let us know what Doc says..........

    Feel sooo bad and sad

I have no idea if this is true, but I heard nuts can cause and aggravate migraines -- is that true? I hope you are feeling better REALLY soon......I did a wee bit too much celebrating my entrance to onderland over the weekend and had the hangover from hell. If that is anything like a migraine I feel so badly for you -- at least I did it to myself and had some fun un the process -- you poor thing. I actually had a pulse in my eyes and couldn't MOVE without pain shooting through my noggin! Get some rest, and worry about feeling better, not what you ate..........

  13. I did it!! I did it! I did it!! I have been hovering just above 200 lbs for MONTHS! Today I got on the scale and it started with a "1" for the first time in at least 7 years!! I am wearin' shorts today, and drinkin' margaritas tonight at my girls night out!! I probably won't share my news with my skinny minny girlfriends though -- they WOULD NOT see 199 as a victory! I'm sure they think I weigh around 150 (LOL-- I wish!) I knew my LBT girlfriends would appreciate my SV though! Have a great day everyone -- I know I will now! :clap2:
  14. Hi Nikki -- welcome! I was banded at BIDMC too but by Dr Schneider. I got banded about 6 months ago and have lost 57 pounds. A bunch of us Mass bandsters are getting together June 11th in the worcester area. Check the Massachusetts forum for the details it's under "as we slip into March". Bostonfatgirl -- this means you too!

    Ice Cream Addiction!!! HELP!!!

I am sorry to say I have no words of wisdom. If it makes you feel any better though, this is a problem food for alot of us. I guess Alexandra is right -- try to buy the lites and just wean yourself down. Maybe if it isn't your favorite, you will give it up sooner or later. DH swears by SF popsicles -- doesn't do it for me, but it's worth a try...........

How much to eat before 1st fill?

It's funny you mention your period. Lots of women here have MORE restriction due to water weight increasing pressure on their band during the time. I have the opposite -- for some reason, I can eat more during my period and experience less restriction. Everyone is different I guess. I have had restiction from day 1 with no fill and even now with only 1cc in, I am at the place I should be. Alot of people don't have restiction until they are filled. After the swelling from surgery subsides they find themselves back at square 1 until they get a fill. I think you're good -- just try to limit yourself on intake until you get the fill.

How I feel on the way down....

You know what the other thing is. Thinner is thinner. We are all used to lugging around our big bodies and whether you weigh 350 and go to 300 or you weigh 120 and go to 70 -- 50 pounds gone....right? I think it's the relative difference that we feel. I know what everyone is talking about though. I am now at the weight where I said I would do something "drastic" if I passed it (ie bypass or stop eating). In other workds it was the ULTIMATE worst weight I would allow. Now I feel like a million bucks at this weight! I'm even proud of it and announce it on line! Totally bizarre!

    I just realized...

I just realized Pnut has a new avatar....funny how you look at the pics and don't even read the name -- you look so different in that pic that I didn't even know it was you! Some people probably look at the names and not the pics. I am definately a visual person though! Congrats on the running thing......nice to be able to hustle huh? Ohhhh speaking of the hustle maybe I'll do the hustle later! I love those 70's line dances, and I can do them now! Is that the kind of thing you're looking for? I had another one last night with hubby too. At the risk of going xrated I'll just elude to the fact that I am MUCH less inhibited now and let me tell you -- THAT was the best NSV I've had in a LOOOOONG time

Ready to cry my eyes out

I too think that Docs prefer the RNY over the band for a few reasons: 1. They know more about it (it's been around longer) 2. It is more of a forced success. You can't cheat it as you can the band. You are rewired and therefore forced to lose weight. With the band you can "eat around it" which is obviously a concern for people with food issues. This having been said I think Docs need to look at the pluses of the band (which you listed) as well as the fact that the band can be tweaked over time (via fills) so that you can lose weight, and if you falter, the band can help you try again. With RNY if you regain weight it is up to you and will power alone to bring it back down. Stick to your guns.... Go see the specialist/surgeon. As long as your PCP gives you the referral, it doesn't matter what you & the bariatric doc decide---right?
