    pb with chicken anyone!

Ironically, two of the best proteins for bandsters -- chicken and tuna are both no-ways for me. I love them both and have tried them numerous times prepared many ways. Grilled chicken is the absolute worst.....you are not alone! Hope the episode ends quickly!

Protein will make you the most satisfied......it's hard until you reach the right restriction level......hang in there!

    Thirtysomething's

Hey! I too am a 30 something (BARELY). I just turned 39 -- can't believe THAT! I live in the Boston area and I have 4 kids under 7 including a set of 5 year old twins. I run a part time curriculum enhancement business for the preschool set and we have a 9 year old pug. I have been married 8 years to the best guy ever. I've known him since he was 3 years old-- actually, I used to baby sit him. Yes, I know that sounds dirty, but it's not! So glad I got the band, and in just 4 short pounds I will be at my pre-kid weight! Go thirties1 Go thirties!

Theory About Highly Intelligent Fat People

It's funny....I am somewhat of a perfectionist and I think that being a stay at home Mom has been my niche.......I have historically been underemployed, and now I work a very part time job doing preschool curriculum enhancement as a consultant. I have 4 kids under 7 and a very busy house. I don't want to sound conceited or toot my own horn, but what I manage at home is INSANE. I (daily) think that there are few people who could handle my kids/house/responsibility like I do. I have to be exceedingly organized and work very efficiently to maintain the schedule of activities we do. I have alot of things I try to stick to like homemade dinner everynight for the family, going to my kids games & performances, volunteering at their schools as much as possible etc. it is definately a full plate. Rather than feeling underemployed, I think this is one of the toughest roles I have stepped into. Not sure if I was hiding under my fat, or eating out of fear or frustration like mentioned above, but now I am in one of the best places I ever have been, and I am using my band to take control of me too. It's funny to think that after all of the academic things I have completed that I would find my highest challenge right here at home!
  5. No preop diet for me. Just a suggestion to live "like I was banded" ie drink lots of water, do lots of chewing, limit portions etc for the last 3 weeks. I barely made it throught the 3 weeks of liquids/3 weeks of mushies following surgery. If I had a preop liquid diet too I think I would have chewed my arm off! It is definately the toughest phase, but once it is over it's like it never happened and it is SOOOO worth it! Good luck!

    Closet Bandster's pt. 2

I always have a hard time "coating the truth". When people ask me how I am losing weight I try to say just portion control and exercise rather than admitting to the band. 9 times out of 10 though I admit to the band after a few more questions! I just can't keep my mouth shut. I also am not very subtle about food choices and PB problems so I end up "outing" myself that way. Overall though, I tried to keep it quiet at first. At least now the effects of the "glass house" and having everyone watching me and inflicting their expectations on to me are alot easier to handle now that I'm on the successful side of weight loss.............It is a very personal decision and I think that whatever decision you make about telling people or not telling will probably be flexible over time. Once you have had some success and/or are more comfortable living with the band then maybe it won't seem like such a big deal if others know. I find myself very casual (almost) about it now, and I am genuinely surprised at some people's reactions to WLS. I forget that they might still see it as "drastic" because they are not accustomed to it like me & my family/friends.........

Folding Sheets, or, My Idea Of Hell

OKAY, here's something no one has brought up -- does anyone get that totally bogus feeling in their hands while folding laundry....like they are in the sahara and they have never in their entire lives used hand lotion....sometimes I wanna go wet my hands in the middle of the folding b/c I am so grossed out from the dry feeling..........OKAY, if you don't know what I'm talking about, maybe it's just me................
  12. Wheetsin ewwwww on your gooey PB comment!!! ROFLMAO! That is sooo funny!

    caffeine?

I gave up coffee for three months then I just couldn't take it anymore. I went back and I LOVE IT! I will say though, that I limit myself to 1 giganto cup a day and I use milk now instead of cream. I think the dehydration factors and the way caffeine messes with your metabolism is not great for bandsters, but in my case, the benefits outweighed the costs!

What size do you want to be?

My feet are shrinking too -- I thought it was just the width from weight loss, but when I got out my sandals from last year -- you know how you can see the footprint -- (gross but true) Well the actual length of my foot is shorter. I was in a 10 and now I'm a 9! I was an 8.5 before kids & weight gain maybe I'll get there again!
  17. OK, let me try this again...........
  18. Don't have the best selection of pics as I am usually the one with the camera -- I guess that way you get to avoid having your own photo taken LOL!! But here are some befores from my sister in law's wedding which was 5 months pre op -- I actually lost 20 lbs to be in the wedding! The afters are just a few weeks ago before my daughters dance recital (that's why I am crouched down). I have lost 60 pounds so far, Ithink of these photos as durings -- not afters! OKAY, skip this post it won't link -- I have the pics further down........ lbtpics.doc
  19. I say get the band and then do the hernia especially if that is what your Doc is reccommending........if the hernia can wait too, I've heard it can help you get approval for plastic surgery after you loose weight .....or wuld the second surgery be soon? Overall, Dawg is right -- think long term and what would help your health the most. The pain is something you forget over time especially if things go well and you start melting away! Good luck with your decision either way!

Type 2 Diabetes: How Are You Doing?

I have only ever needed insulin during my pregnancies and take very small doses of oral meds since then. I was taking 4mg of glipzide 2X day before surgery and then 2 months after surgery and minus 40 lbs, I went to one dose daily. As of last week, I went off completely and my sugars have been around 120 when randomly taken..........My last a1c was in the 5s!
