Thank you NJChick! You are so great to be so supportive! I am so excited and can't believe how fast the 24th is coming -- I have all plans in place for my kids care for a couple of days and can't wait!

Are you a closet bandster? & Do you regret your decision?

OK, not to sound like a sappy hallmark, but I had pretty much decided not to tell my family unless I had to (my mom works at the hospital I am getting banded at). After some reconsideration I decided that even if they weren't going to be supportive, I wanted them to know "just in case". Well, long story short, they are aprehensive about the surgery, but thrilled overall with my decision. Someone earlier in this thread advised me to tell them and that they might pleasantly surprise me. My thoughts at that time were that while well meaning, that person obviously didn't know MY family!!!!! I just never thought they would go along with this but I think that once peolple realize how committed you are, and how much you've done to prepare to get to this point there isn't much they can say that will impact your decision so they just don't say it. Maybe on the other hand, they are just infected with your own enthusiasm and can't help supporting you -- whatever the reason it is still an individual decision and our own attitudes about it will ultimately affect those we choose to tell.........I'm glad I "outed" myself because now I have found support where I thought there would be none -- double bonus! -

100 Pounds -- I'm almost afraid to even set such a goal! You are AMAZING!!!!! Thank you for showing it CAN be done! Maybe after we each lose 100 lbs we could have a party in those pants -- I think I have some stretchies we can use if too many of us show up!!!! Congratulations to you --Fabulous! -
I got my date! I got my date! It's Oct 24 with Dr Schneider -- I am so excited -- have some work to do now on pre op weight loss and upping the walking -- it's so soon I'm thrilled!

I say dance in the rain anyways!!!! You are in the same boat as me -- I'm being banded 10/24 and I think I could dance in the rain too!

It's been so long in coming, I can't believe it's happening! I went for my surgical consult today and got the date of October 24th!!! The program that I am in requires a weight loss of 10lbs prior to surgery. I have lost some weight, but not 10lbs so I thought for sure they would defer me. I was dreading it. But they didn't even weigh me. The 24th is right around the corner -- I am so excited -- I practically danced all the way back to my car!

It does make it so "real" for so long it's been just an idea and now it's actually going to happen -- the only thing I can compare it to is having a baby -- you are preggo so long and you know the end is coming (and you want it to soooo bad) but when it does, you can't believe it's over in a flash......
-
I never thought they'd weigh me again -- thanks for the tip. I am going to take the weight loss seriouslt now though -- I think the whole pattern will help get me ready for banded life anyways..............

I am kind of having this weird issue with being able to tell friends/people I know in passing, but not my family/co-workers. In otherwords, I have avoided telling the people I see everyday and find it easier to talk to more casual aquaintences....Maybe it's b/c I don't want to be watched or feel in a fishbowl like Jessie & the Chef talked about. But I do get a feeling of guilt over "being sneaky". I, too, am a very open person and it is not in my nature to not have it all laying out on the table for everyone to know. I am just not willing to accept negative opinions/criticism/judgements on this topic and I know that's what will come from those closest to me -- whether it is out of love or not, I just will not hear it! -
Some of the other "groups" are planning nights out. I was wondering what they would do -- all split a meal? I mean if there's supposed to be no drinking and very little eating what are they going to do? I guess they could go to a movie but that would limit talking/bonding....just curious

Hi I am at BIDMC too -- Dr Scneider. The whole program is great, I started in July and am meeting the surgeon on Oct 6th to get a date. If you got to BIDMC web site you can get alot of info about the program -- good luck! I hope to be banded in Nov/Dec. I think the program generally takes about 3 months to complete depending on how flexible your schedule is.....................

Hey Lynn I had originally been referred to Dr Jones but when I went for the info session, Dr Schneider lead it, and I found him totally hilarious and very knowlegeable so I switched over. Haven't had my consult with him yet, they are hopefully reviewing my file TODAY and I will get an appt with him scheduled by this afternoon!!!! All other steps of the program are FInISHED! I am sure I have wuestions, but I am off to work now.....gotta dash!
