getting banded on 1/28 and scared

well i have had numerous surgeries and i was scared too. i think it's normal to be nervous about surgery. i just kept telling the anaethesist how scared i was...i was telling everyone, the nurses, the surgeon, the anaethesist... i think they couldnt wait to put me under still, i figured it helped with the nerves to talk about it :cool2: t

  3. in 1995 when i had awful abdominal pain my gp told me it was "because you are fat". i changed docs, found out i had gallstones, had my gallbladder removed and the pain went away... and i was still fat! never been back to him since. t
  4. sorry you're having a rough time. i know what it's like. im an antidepressant user as well, but i havent taken them since the op. the onlysuggestions i have are hard ones... try ringing a friend, or pm-ing one of us. i have had a few days where i hve just cried and cried, then yesterday i felt quite bright. it's not easy. ringing someone is the last thing you feel like doing but if you have someone who will understand, it is worth doing. i forced myself to do it, and it helped a bit. i hope today you are doing a little better. (((hugs))) t

    Question for the female banders

I'm 10 days out of the op and my period started yesterday and it seriously sucks! i've had an ablation of the uterus so really havent had much of a period ovr the last two years.. except the occasional one. well. hello.... this is a fullblown, cramping, feeling horrible, major bleeding episode :rolleyes2: i'm just hoping it's a one off. but it really really sucks. more like the periods i used to have when i was younger. guess i'm not in menopause yet ! t
  7. Hi I was looking for some advice. I was banded a week ago tomorrow (16/1) and am experiencing a lot of pain where the port is... a kind of internal ripping type pain. I've spoken to my doc and he says this is not uncommon and it will take a couple of weeks to settle down and to keep taking the painstop... which i have been. My question is .. should i try and go for walks or move about more? is this likely to help even though initially it seems to make it worse? Has anyone got any suggestions for how to speed up the healing process? ie is it better to rest in bed or move around? The site is quite tight and tender and it's hard to even just sit without feeling the pain. Thanks t

port pain - what to do

ok, well went back to the surgeon today cos it was oozing a bit. think he was kinda shocked to see how bad the pain was. he thinks one of the port's "claws" might be snagged on a nerve ...yikes, no wonder it friggin hurts. but he couldnt rule out a haematoma (sp). He has decided to not go back in, but to get an ultrasound first. he thinks it will probably dissipate of it's own accord, but it may take some time. so ultrasound next wed (it's a long weekend downunder)... hopefully everything is ok. omg having him poke around was soooooooo painful! t

    lapbanders called cheats

dms these are the people who call us "lazy cos they dont do anything about their weight" and "cheats cos they got a lapband". any normal person can see that these two statements are contradictory... what do they want? well, what they really want is for us to be as unhappy as they are. yes it's frustrating, but you are the one who has lost weight and improved your life. dont give people like this a second thought cos i guarantee if you jumped through every hoop they requested and did it "the right way" (ie THEIR way) they would still find something to be unhappy about~! what matters is you made a great decision for yourself and had the courage to follow through. No one here thinks it's the easy way out... we all know better. but even if it was... so bloody what??? that letter writer is just one miserable person! t

port pain - what to do

thanks for your replies. my doc just said "it happens and can take a couple of weeks to settle down" he was more concerned about any fever or oozing - which i dont have. i have been holding a pillow to my stomach. sitting is actually the worst for me. i coughed yesterday and nearly died OMG!!! i went for a short walk about 3 days ago but i was aching really badly when i got home. mine is on my waistline too. so i havent dressed properly since the op. glad to hear it does eventually clear up and you start to feel normal again. cant wait for that! t

    Now I'm getting nervous ...

hi ThinDolphin3 I had it done a week ago and i'm still in a lot of pain. But despite the fact that i cried most of yesterday, i know long term this is the best option for me. Dont be put off by reading the problems that people are having... when we have problems we are more likely to post looking for support. I would still do it again, even though i havent got to the good part of no pain yet. t

    Banded 2 days ago, BLOATED!

i lost the 10 on my pre-op optifast diet! i put on 3kg i the hospital (from fluids i think) bt i've lost 2.5 of those. trying not to worry too much about the weight side just yet... my doc kept saying before the first fill it's about healing not weight loss. t

    Scared?

i'm scared of failing, but after 40 years i'm more scared of the alternative... doing nothing and getting bigger and bigger. it takes courage to try. we have the courage. i admire all of us for doing this... you can do it too. t

    Banded 2 days ago, BLOATED!

same as greeneyez... i dont know what size band, but my understanding was no fill til i see the doc in 5 weeks time... which is fine by me. i want to take the adjustment slowly. t
  22. i had a moderate hiatus hernia and my doc told me he would fix it when he put the band in place cos it's really easy to do. he did, and i'm now at home - 3 days out. i think it just makes recovery a little slower. good luck. i hope it goes well. t

    Banded 2 days ago, BLOATED!

i am superbloated too and banded 3 days ago. i made the mistake of standing on the scales yesterday and i'd put on 3 kg (7lbs). unbelievable given i've only had fluids... but i'm not going to stress about tht part of it... there is enough to worry about withthe bloating and pain t

How Many Last Meals ... ?

i did that before my pre-op liquid diet. it was helpful...everything i thought i couldnt live without was really kinda disappointing! i think it's normal to want to do that. t
