  1. I am 3 months post gastric sleeve. Before surgery my heart rate stayed around 100 bomb, resting it would be between 80-90. In this last week or so my heart rate stays around 70 bpm, but at rest it's between40-50 bpm. Is this normal. I feel for the most part OK. I am having what feels like anxiety, like my heart is racing yet it's not. Anyone else have similar issue?

  2. @beccaconaty87 I had grapes by week 3, everyone can’t tolerate fruit at the same time or some people say it’s a slider food, but it isn’t for me...my suggestion is to try one and see how it goes for you, I usually can’t have more than 7 or 8 depending on the size. My nutritionist was amazed that I could eat strawberries because of the seeds but it doesn’t bother me, she said go for it if I could tolerate it. The only fruit that I find is a slider food is bananas, I can eat the whole thing, I was shocked lol. Now I cut it in half. I love fruit.

Do I need to remove the skin? Or will I be fine if my stomach can handle it with the skin?

  3. I had the gastric sleeve on 10/16. My doctor wants his patients to do 3 weeks liquids, 3 weeks soft food, then starting week 7 is normal food. I am 5 days from soft food stage. I however have been struggling to get my Protein in because I can't do the Protein Shakes or powder. I have seriously tried every kind every which way and still have issues. I know some people get to start the soft foods at 2 weeks. If I started early with lunch meat, tuna, retried Beans, would that be OK or would it be a big no no. My doc wants me to get 65 grams of protein and its hard to do when I can't do the protein shakes and powder. Right now I'm eating yogurt too try to get some in. The doc approved yogurt, pudding, cream Soups on the full liquid diet. Any advice would be appreciated.

  4. Can someone explain to me how to connect with other members on here who are having their surgery in October? I'd like to be able to message people privately to talk about our progress or issues we might be having.

  5. Well if I wasn't positive about having the sleeve done before I'm definitely going forward with it now. Was having issues with my blood pressure so I went to the doctor. I have also had chest pain since 2008 and I brought that up to my doctor. He sent me to the cardiologist which I figured that nothing would come of that. my chest pain has always been assumed as being in indigestion problem. After my blood pressure started to get higher, having heart palpitations, and chest pain my doctor decided to send me to a cardiologist. I had an echo cardiogram 2 weeks ago. They called me back for a follow up. I still thought nothing of it. Just thought maybe that they were going to tell me that I had a heart arrhythmia. Come to find out there's damage to both my left and right side of my heart. The left is because of being overweight and because of the high blood pressure but the right side is because a pulmonary as she is. The cardiologist said it was really important that I have the weight loss surgery. After I've lost 50 to a 100 pounds I have to go back in and see if that right side of the heart has improved or got worse. If it's got worse than its not weight related. I'm so scared.

  6. I have been on lisinopril myself, not a bad med at all. Don't stress, that won't do you any good. Relax, it sounds as though you have a,pretty good cardiologist who's right on top of things. Only cardiac anomaly my cardio and I are watching now is I have a slightly dialated aortic root but since it's still within normal range she cleared me for my bariatric surgery. My cardiologist is absolutely wonderful, I would recommend her to anyone. I was fearful as there are heart issues running in my family, I've been through ultrasounds, stress tests and even heart caths and so far (at 72) I am doing very well. I am praying your issues straighten out, I believe they will . Let's get you straightened up,so you can join me this spring or summer in surgery! You are going to get better, now smile and relax because things are getting set right.[emoji14][emoji14]I am always here for you, Okay?

So the Water pills were not lowering my BP so I was put on 2.5mg lisinopril. I had an echocardiogram and I got a call back that I needed to schedule an appointment to go over the results, which has me a little scared. I go back in April 19th. The lisinopril helps alot but I'm worried because when I lay down my BP drops really low. My ears start to plug up like I can't hear and my head starts to feel funny, like I'm going to pass out. Have also had palpitations sense starting it.

I have been on the Water pill for 2 days and have done fine on it. Lost 6lbs in water so far. But my BP has actually gone up more not down. It's the diastolic number that is being an issue. When I do any type of exertion like just getting up to go to the bathroom or switching clothes from washer to dryer. Even just standing up or sitting down my diastolic goes into the 100s. Then when laying down in down to the 90's/60's. I called my cardiologist to tell her the numbers and she added 2.5 mg of lisinipril on top of the water pill. I'm hoping that, that will work. I have been so scared about it all which has me stressing. Which is not going to make my BP any better. Thank you so much for asking how I am doing :)

  9. Im scheduled for surgery on sat im really considering cancelling, and try on my own one more time. I havent done the preop diet right have zero motivation. Im scared and anxiety is through the roof. Has anyone had more motivation after surgery? Any thoughts anyone else has thought and done surgery?

I didn't go through with surgery. Lost 40lbs on my own. Then slowly over this year gained it back. Now I'm redoing the 6th month insurance process. And I regret not following through the last time. What are your stats? Do you have high BP, diabetes, etc?? How old are you?

  10. I took triamterene-hctz for over a decade because I had venous reflux in my lower legs. Nasty edema. The pill helps you pee out excess Water gathering in your legs, and helps control your blood pressure.
I never had any problems with triamterene.
After surgery, I was taken off this medication and did great:) Since my weight loss, I no longer need it:) My edema is much, much better. Am able to wear tall boots again:) Oh, and my BP is normal now, without meds.
High blood pressure is dangerous. Treating it when you have it...protects you. The benefits outweigh the risks. And when you lose weight and improve your lifestyle habits, you can safely go off it (with your doctor's supervision).
    Take your meds!

Did you have any issues with potasium levels while on it? I hear mixed reviews, one that it can higher potassium and one that it can lower. If it's lower I want to get more potasium in through foods, but if it raises potassium I dont want to eat a bunch of potassium..

  11. Went to see cardiologist today. She said she won't be signing off for my surgery until after she has done an ultrasound on my heart. She put me on a BP pill for my BP and for swelling. This all has me scared. I need to take the medicine to get my BP under control but scared of all the scary side effects that are possible. I was put on triamterene-hctz. Has anyone been on this? Pros/cons? Safe??

  12. Did they recommend you do no carbs? I do almost a low carb, but like I said, I blew it this past weekend. I've lost 23lbs during my 6 moth, I still have 2 months left. I still eat some carbs though. I've tried Keto and failed at it, I actually gained more weight. I just watch calories.

The doctor wants me to follow the south beach diet so yes little to no carbs. I was doing really good before getting back on the the train to doing surgery, with low carb diet. But it all kind of went to crap sense planning on surgery.

  13. I'm doing my 6 month insurance process as well and I have the problem where I do great all weekend and then I destroy the weekends. I am not sure why either. I think maybe it is a fear of not getting to have those foods again. For me I think maybe I'm not busy enough on the weekends. I work out 5 times a week and kill it during the week, but man, the weekends get me. Do you take your lunch? I take my meals to work so I know that's all I can have during the work day. It keeps me on track better than if I say I can go to the gift shop or the cafeteria, I work in a hospital.

I'm a stay at home mom so I have access to food all day :( probably be better if I was working and not home. My spouse only works 4 days a week and is off on the weekends. This makes it a lot harder. She Is overweight as well and she likes to veg out on the weekends. Seeing her doing it makes me cave. We have always enjoyed eating together. So that makes it really difficult in itself too.

  14. Look this is your golden shot. Don't fu*k it up. Right? The time for secretive behavior is gone. You know? Put it ALL out on the table cuz at NO other time, will you have a team of professionals at your beck and call whose sole mission is to help you lose the weight. You know? So take EVERY advantage of them and work your keester off.
Most of us can lose and lose big. NBD. So what. But most of us 95%+ are incapable of keeping it off long term Some of that is our own fault (we revert to old habits and go back to eating the same old crap that brought us to the super morbidly obese ball in the first place). But other parts are beyond our control (hormones et al).
This surgery will give us a better shot at long term weight loss success. But it isn't magical. You eat the wrong things you regain. And it's worse than you can possibly imagine to get it off again at that point. So don't regain.
Back to the original statement: This is your golden shot. Don't be a screw up. Don't fu*k it up.
Determine that you are emotionally ready to change your relationship with food FOREVS!

Thank you so much I really appreciate you being honest and supportive. I'm not gonna mess this up.

  15. So look, I'm not gonna lie to you. I worked my ass off pre-op to lose weight and lost somewhere around 50+ lbs if I remember correctly? But along the way, I also had a few food funerals. But for the most part, my diet was very clean. I did this mainly cuz I was terrified that my liver would be as big as a foie gras goose liver! I wanted to reduce it over those 6 months. I truly was so scared I'd be the girl they'd open and close telling me, "Your liver was so damn big, I've never seen anything like it," and close me up without the surgery.
So I had surgery about 5weeks ago. The doc told me my liver was small and pink and did just what it was supposed to do--stayed silent and out of the way during my RNY. [emoji4] So the angst is worth it.
It's also worth it to decarb, dealcohol, desmoke, and decaffeinate. It's much easier to go through Keto flu without the operation to deal with too. My recovery was obscenely easy. The surgery was obscenely easy. Cuz I prepared like hell up front.
IF you are truly having eating issues and it sounds like you are, I'd look up a therapist--someone who specializes in bariatrics. I'd ask your surgeon. I would level with your team about what's going on with you and ask for help. My RD was all I needed, but some need more help. Don't be ashamed to do what you need to start your new life out on the right footing!!!

Thank you so much for your response. So I did the 6 month process last year and did great. Lost like 40-50lbs and did everything right. Was given a surgery date and didn't follow through. Because of the weight I lost on my own I thought I could do it on my own and didn't want to take the risk at surgery. Well over the last year I gained 15 or so of those pounds back and realized I cant do it all on my own, no matter how good I was eating. So i jumped back on the train to surgery. This go round though i dont know if it's the fear I won't go through again if I lose the weight or that I'm so positive about the surgery I'm scared of not getting to eat the stuff I do now that I'm having a food funeral. I know that I already have a fatty liver so that does scare me and I do want to be in the best shape before surgery. I see a counselor and all though I wanted to keep my surgery somewhat of a secret I think I will talk to her. I'm suppose to be doing the south beach diet. Which for the last year I have been on a diet that has been some what the same as the keto diet, but sense starting back up with the surgery all the progress I made with that diet has gone out the window
