  1. Congrats on moving to purée foods! Sounds like you did the right thing by stopping when you felt satiated. Keep up the good work!

    Ham and cheese roll ups

After three weeks, my nut allowed soft foods and deli meat and cheese qualified. I ate them plain and didn't roll them up. I tore off very small bites and chewed really well. I tolerated these just fine and still eat them. It helps a lot if you're hydrated for it not to feel dry. I sometimes take a tiny sip of water as needed if food gets stuck. My nut said that's ok.

    Halloween ????

Trust me, you guys definitely aren't the only cereal killers here. I've had a special relationship with cereal my entire life. It started with fruit loops. In fact, my mom tells me my first ever punishment (for coloring on the wall when I was just old enough to know better) was having my fruit loops taken away for a few days when I was 3 yrs old. Over the years I grew to love cereal even more. Corn Pops. Life. Lucky Charms. Fruity freaking Pebbles! And any time of day was fine - breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, 3 am after the bars closed in college. I definitely miss it. But not enough to trade in the 25 lbs I've lost to get it back.

    Goal Weight / BMI

@@Daisee68 That's really good info! Thanks very much for sharing!
  5. My post-op instructions included calling the clinic if I was throwing up. I'd definitely call, especially since it's been multiple times. It could be nothing, but it's a good idea to check just in case! Btw, I'm surprised you're already home from the hospital! I didn't eat anything the day after surgery and was still getting IV fluids.
  6. At two weeks, it was taking me that long too, if not longer. Now at four weeks I can sometimes finish one in 45 min. It will get better with time!
  7. Woohoo! Congrats!! ????
  8. And gut bacteria! I'm fascinated by that area as well Me too! And not just how it relates to obesity, but overall health. It seems we've just scratched the surface and have so much more to learn.
  9. @@cjd2010 I'm surprised your surgeon didn't prescribe nausea meds for after surgery. You should probably call and ask for some. An over the counter antacid might help "settle" your stomach if you're feeling a little yucky, but for straight up nausea definitely request nausea meds. I've been taking zofran as needed. It doesn't make you tired like a lot of others. It's been a lifesaver for me!
  10. @@Jangy03253 Have you actually called the practice, told them about your situation and implored them to get you on the schedule? If they know what's going on and can see how badly you want this and motivated you are, they might be able to make it happen for you. If they don't understand why it has to be this year, they won't try as hard because they think it's just a preference, not an absolute necessity.

4 Weeks out of Surgery- need advice

I believe most programs recommend getting 64 oz of Fluid in each day, so I would think you can safely cut back on how much you're drinking if it's making you uncomfortable. As for the weight loss, I'm sorry to say I don't have an answer. Hopefully a more senior member can chime in? Hang in there!

    eating TOO much?

@@Joy ThompsonAt your stage, my nut has advised me to eat five or six protein-packed meals a day and lay off the shakes. Then slowly move to three meals a day as I can eat more in one sitting. Folks here are right. Stick with the protein first to meet your 60g a day and you'll stay full longer.

    eating TOO much?

@@VonRock7 My nut actually said its ok to take a tiny sip of water if food gets stuck in my throat. I find that still happens with meat sometimes even if I chew very well. YMMV.

    Exhaustion

@@melps My surgery was a week before yours and I'm in the same boat. My surgeon said to expect to feel pretty fatigued until about six weeks out or so, due both to healing from the surgery and the rapid weight loss we're experiencing. Congrats on your weight loss! You're off to a great start!
  15. @@cdj Did your surgeon prescribe any nausea medicine? That might help you keep the pain meds down. And like everyone says, it gets better every day! I was SO miserable in the hospital because of the pain, an allergic reaction I had that made me itch/burn all over my body, and being scared and overwhelmed. I remember turning to my dad and saying "I wish I'd just stayed fat!" This is really common cause it sucks so much in the beginning and you have no reward for your ordeal yet (weight loss). Hang in there and keep us updated on how you're doing!

    My Hubby is Brilliant

Haha...I love it! If you really wanted people to get the message, you could set it up so you have to give your little bariatric pet sips and bites. And then give them Oregon Trail type messages like: "Oops, you gave your pet too many sips, too fast! He's taking nausea medicine and praying he doesn't throw up." "Your pet didn't take enough sips today. He has a headache and feels weak."
  17. I'm sorry you're having so much trouble, Steph. You've gotten good advice here. I'll just add: Has your doctor given you anything for nausea? If not, you may want to ask for it. I'm a little further out from you and it's a struggle to take in enough fluids and Protein without getting nauseated. My surgeon said its ok to do my best and take the nausea meds when I need them. I'm taking zofran, which works very well and doesn't make you loopy like other nausea meds. I agree with everyone else that getting more fluids is vital and this might help you. I wonder whether taking some Probiotics might help too? Your gut flora was likely depleted by the antibiotics you received in the hospital. That can cause GI upset, among other things. I've been taking them just in case. Good luck!
  18. If you're having continuous diarrhea, you might want to talk with your surgeon. If it's just once in a while, I wouldn't worry. My stomach has been doing all kinds of weird things these last three weeks since my surgery. I think it's just getting used to its new configuration and healing. I was having a lot of diarrhea a week and a half ago and now the pendulum has swung the other direction to constipation. Neither is very fun. :-/ I'm sure we'll find our rhythms soon, though!
  19. At two weeks post-op, I was still sore but off of narcotics. I was taking Tylenol around the clock. The soreness made it difficult to sit in normal chairs. I went out to see a movie one night and was pretty uncomfortable the next day due to the seat and wearing jeans instead of yoga pants. My biggest complaint was GI upset. My stomach was rumbling and grumbling all the time and I definitely needed the nausea med I was sent home with. I was also extremely fatigued. Even taking a shower felt really strenuous. Personally, I really wouldn't have enjoyed traveling anywhere at that time. I was miserable enough just getting by day to day at home, sorry to say.

    Post OP Bowel issues

Just wrote this reply on another thread written by someone having the same problem: I'd call your bariatric team. They may want to test you for C. diff or give you IV fluids if you've become too dehydrated. I had the same problem around that time. My C. diff test came back negative, so my surgeon said to just take Imodium. It worked. I'm glad I checked in, even if it turned out to be nothing, cause it could have been a problem.

  22. That's definitely how I felt at six days out. From what I hear that's very common. Your body is still healing from a major trauma. Also, my surgeon says its normal to feel fatigued until about six weeks out because you're losing weight so rapidly. I'm three weeks out myself. I feel much better than I did two weeks ago, but still not myself and not quite ready to go back to work.

    Sip

What they mean is it's difficult to take in a lot of liquid at once without feeling overly full or nauseous. Before surgery I could finish a 16 oz bottle of Water in five minutes if I was really thirsty. I'm three weeks post-op and it takes me at least 45 minutes to finish 8 oz of water. I have to take tiny sips and space them out. Getting in the 48-64 oz of liquid my surgeon recommends means I have to "sip, sip, sip" all day long. Good luck with your surgery!
