  1. with any surgery I have ever had they made it clear that I could have any signs of 'sickness' or the surgery would not happen. I am so sorry that happened to you. Get on the phone and get that surgery scheduled. Tell them to make it soon!!!!

    Sleep study

Great news! I can't wait to feel rested!!! I'm not looking forward to the endoscopy either. It's the IV part I dread.

    Sleep study

I dread my sleep study! Actually it is the cpap I dread wearing. I am getting mine in September. I'm sure I have sleep apnea. I am tired all the time. Just think though, when we lose a lot of weight we probably won't have to wear it anymore!!

    Dr Long in Texas

It seems like forever!!!!! I am in my three month pre surgery insurance stuff. In month two. Do lots of reading and have questions ready for him!
  5. I, myself, am in the process of getting approved for the sleeve. My sister had the RNY 3 years ago and she wishes now she had the sleeve instead. She and I both take several different medications and I did NOT want to fight malabsorption. She really struggled with malabsorption. She had no idea how much medication her body was really getting. I personally NEVER even considered the RNY. Good luck with your adventure and I agree with the reply above, about getting another opinion from another surgeon.

    Unsure

Be thankful hahaha. I have to jump thru hoops to get approved. Plus a $5000 copay

    Uncertain about surgery

Because my insurance requires a $5000 co pay for bariatric surgery, which I have not yet had, I will be paying a lot of money for it. For me, that fact alone motivates me to follow the rules exactly. Also, when that time comes, I will be asking myself, which is more important to me, my kids and future grandkids, or this bite of ice cream??????? Keep your motivation in front of you.

    Overwhelmed !????

It totally depends on BCBSs policies (the small, tiny, details) I have TRS Aetna and I had to call them and have them show where to look exactly. I have to do like 6 things, see a nutritionist for 3 months, have a supervised exercise regimen, and other stuff. I have to follow it exactly, as you do. Give them a call and actually look at it in writing. I was completely overwhelmed with the wording and how much I had to do... but I analyzed it several times and then I was ok with it Good luck!!
  10. I have been convinced for three months to have lapband. Since I listened to my surgeons seminar, I am seriously considering the sleeve. I am 224 lbs, 5'4, and am diabetic and have high blood pressure. Will you tell my why you chose the sleeve? Why should I choose it over lapband? Thank you in advance for your replies
  11. What, exactly, makes you nervous? The surgery itself? Try focusing on the positives. Think of the weightloss you will have and how great you will look and feel? I have really just started the process and have decided on the sleeve rather than lapband. It makes me a little nervous, too. I think I am afraid to fail. We can both get through this and will! I have read many great stories about how great people felt right after surgery, so many not having nausea or vomitting or hardly any pain or discomfort!!!!!

    Dr Long in Texas

I did quite a bit of research on Dallas Clinics. My insurance is Aetna and I have a $5000 co pay. Yes, $5000. I actually live in west Texas but all the in network doctors are in Dallas and Houston. I am using Dr. Victor Gonzalez. They are really helping me out on the co pay, reducing it to $2000. However, I have to have a sleep study and an endoscopy. He is very thorough. It is hard to say what I will pay until insurance approves. I think the final price for me will be about $8000. What is the price for Nicholson Clinic? I have seen $9000 out there somewhere but I dont remember who.

    Nausea, pain

Please keep us posted. Hang in there!!!!! you can do it!
  14. My insurance is TRS Aetna and the require a multi disciplinary surgical prep regimen. Has anyone run into this? I am ok with the consultation with a dietician and decreased calorie diet (dietician can help with that too), but who in the heck does a behavior modification program? Where can I get that? I have to start on an exercise regimen, supervised by an exercise therapist or qualified personnel. Who would do this? I dont want to pay anymore money that I have to. Can my general doctor do it? I do not want to be denied coverage. Any help is appreciated!
  15. I know who I want to use and have been in contact with them. She has hooked me up with a nutritionist. I do need to talk to her again and find out if the surgeon can do the rest. My only issue is that I live 5 hours away. That is the closest in network doctor. It is ridiculous! I wanted to do all I could locally to keep from traveling so much; that is why I feel so overwhelmed I think. Which surgery did you have and how are you doing with it?
