  1. I added guacamole as a spread to my turkey and cheese roll up (instead of mayo or mustard). Probably 3 or 4 weeks post op. I also do the same with hummas. I'll also do that with sliced avacados. Not daily but now and then. Obviously it didn't hurt or slow down my progress. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

Where is the weight coming off?

Butt. I dropped pant size pretty quickly. While my arms too reduced, too much skin making it hard to go down passed XL in long sleeves. Sleeveless I'm already in a M or L. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
  3. Everyone is probably correct on their description of meals vs Snacks. My nut isn't for snacks. But she is okay with Protein drinks as supplements when needed. When not traveling for work, I always have my premiere shakes available. I'm in Chihuahua this week for work, delayed flights left yesterday challenging for me, I was so hungry by evening, and had to resort to my Quest bar. I feel like I'm cheating when I resort to a bar. But only had about two bites to hold me off until the restaurant opened. I can see a Walmart from my hotel room. I hope the Mexico Walmarts carry premiere shakes. 4. I'm 13 weeks out. Supposedly it should get better once you add vegetables and Fiber back into your diet. I've only just been clear for vegetables, but just a small amount vs Protein. So far I really haven't seen much improvement. It seems I have a teeny tiny BM every five days or so. And that is usually helped with dulcolox. ugh. I almost recjoice afterwards. I can almost guarantee a weight loss the next day.

TT & BL on November 21!

Those are the two things I want, especially the breast lift. Although I'm not sure what exactly that surgery entails. I'm not interested in implants. But my boobs hang down, one points down. Can someone describe the breast lift surgery to me. I'll be 63 in January, not sure if this is a silly thing to do.

    Vitamin Patch Placement

I put my multi Vitamin patch on my upper arm, where a shot is typically given, but wear it overnight in my pjs. During the day I put my vit. B12 in various places. Shoulder, butt, lower back. Once I placed it over a tattoo and got a rash. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

    Post op necessities?

Don't go crazy stocking up on Protein drinks, shaked, Soups and such. I over bought big time, wasted a lot of money. So much taste gross post op and I moved on to mushy on day 12 Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

    taste good?

Funnt to be reading this now. I'm in suburb to verify my airbag recall. They said they had one replacement left, so I wasn't prepared for the 2 hour job. Their waiting room has delicious looking Cookies. I walked right out and into the gas station quick mart next door. In my past life, I would have bought candy and ate the cookies. Instead after walking around I settled on a muscle milk, 20 Protein, 100 calories and now sitting here drinking it and not at all intrigued with the cookies. 9. I has mine removed but had sonogram showing gallstones. Surgeon even checked my scan again in the prep room, he said he would never remove a healthy organ. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

    Taking off from work

If no complications, you should be fine with 2 weeks off. I was stir crazy after a week and a half. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
  11. Had sleeve on a Wednesday morning, discharged Thursday noon (I didn't have drains). My first follow up was at 12 twelve days out. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
  12. Unfortunately most child's menu offer chicken fingers, burgers and hot dogs. I did use the card at a Chinese buffet. $5 instead of 10. Most times I feel too cheap and embarrassing to use it. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
  13. Why six weeks? If this is really worrying you, I'll ask again why six weeks? What type of job do you have that will require six weeks off. I was stir crazy after two weeks and couldn't wait to get back to work. I even flew after three weeks and again at four weeks for meetings. If I didn't have sick leave, fiance or not, I wouldn't be taking six weeks off. Most of us are feeling just fine after 2 or definitely after 3. Only a small percentage have complications.

    Which surgery?

My surgeon, Cleveland Clinic, no longer performs lapbands. I had the sleeve.

    Salad

As far as my plan goes, they consider this useless food. Its all about Protein first. I was just cleared for vegetables (11 weeks out). I will say this, the past few weeks, if a piece of lettuce ended up on my plate (say with something I ordered out, I'd take a bite and the crunch was nice. Its difficult chewing lettuce to liquid consistency which you should be doing for quite some weeks. I do need the Fiber though, so as I continue to introduce new vegetables into my diet, I will be adding a little bit of lettuce now and then.

    How Things Have Changed

While I agree we all can and should eat less, I think you may be overstepping on this special day for the other eight adults coming. It may be the last Thanksgiving they decide to eat at mom and dads. And whats Thanksgiving without leftover turkey sandwiches. If you don't want to eat turkey the following week, then leave the leftovers to the other eight adults. It's turkey, its not going to be any more work to cook, just a little longer in the over 16 lbs vs. 12 lbs. as someone else mentioned its not pie or cake. Now I might speak up and say, hey, lets not go overboard with the Desserts. But I wouldn't get into a pissing match with dad over this. Its suppose to be an enjoyable event and these holidays between Thanksgiving and New Years are stressful enough for many of us. Do not push your new way of eating and living on others unless they ask. It's very annoying. Speaking of holidays, Happy Halloween.

    Will I be broken forever?

For me I know planning made a big difference. I had learned alot from these forums before the surgery, so when I got home, I had an action plan in place. I knew getting my fluids in and/or Protein shakes those first few weeks were vital. I took all the advice to use small cups and sip sip sip. I'm not sure if I were one of the lucky ones, or just followed the advice here and did not feel ill, nor vomit, etc. And I'm sort of a picky eater, even when moving to the next Phase, I hate yogurt, cottage cheese and fish. Take your ppi and anit nausea meds every day. Also once you start your Vitamins (usually after two weeks post op), you'll start feeling better. I'd say week 3 you will feel pretty good and start seeing the results. I'm mostly replying to you, because you said you are going back to work. Again, I think the most important thing you can do when you venture back out into the world is PLAN. I started on soft/mushie Day 12. I didn't use my magic bullet as much as I thought. But its so important that you always have plenty of Water (I had to mix my water with crystal light or ice tea or the like - water was very difficult for me those first few weeks as it is for many of us - weird, but it just is); and pack you lunch box for work. I hope you like greek yogurt, cottage cheese and Protein drinks. I prefer the taste of ready to drink types, Premiere Protein being my favorite (find it in Wal mart). Also invest in GENEPRO, mixes easily. I can even mix it in some of my mushy type food. You will be singing a different tune in a few weeks, I promise you!!! Hang in there. We are here for you!!!! I do feel for you, if you have home responsibilities. I'm 62 years young, and did not have to care for children. My biggest fear is when I'd sit on the couch my pittie would want to jump right on my lap, but she even knew something was up and did not do that until about week six. I did have to be pulled up from a sitting position for about a week.

    Can't decide which surgery

I did not want my insides rearranged (so I never considered bypass), just cut the stomach out (also had my gallbladder removed at the same time). Recovery for me was a piece of cake (opps sorry for mentioning cake). I'm 62 started with bmi of 40 with only mild sleep apnea. 2 1/2 months out BMI 30. No longer obese. My stomach isn't as saggy as my boobs and butt. My arms are hopeless. But overall I look great. I will look into a breast lift in 2017. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

What Nutrition Fact Did You Learn?

Yesterday when having my one on one with my NUT, I learned the purpose of the large Water intake goal post op is to prevent kidney stones from developing which bariatric patients are proned to afterwards. Here I thought it was just to keep our tummies full and prevent hunger. I will work harder meeting my water goals. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

    Travel

I travel slot, but agree with Buffelhead by then most of your Protein will be from real food. I'm sure the UK will be easy to find c supplements. They probably even have a GNC. Unlike the US where ready to drink supplements and protein bars are founds in grocery stores, many of the countries I visit only carry Protein powder and bars and few options for RTD shakes in pharmacies. I'm preparing for three trips right now and just finished preparing my GENEPRO for each. I love it in my morning coffee and it's tasteless but starts me off with 30 grams. I'm 2 1/2 months out. I have yet to eat a bar but will bring them just in case. There are things you can buy here and take. Also beef or turkey Jerky. Don't worry, you'll be fine. It will be the long flight that's a challenge. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
  21. Wow very nice, maybe you should have 2 ounces of red wine with that Pasta. No, my surgeon was not that kind. Actually my last day was strictly clear liquids, not even a shake. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
  22. I'm seven weeks post op, doing VERY well with my Protein phase, although so boring. Met with my NUT today and she cleared me for vegetables. Nothing starchy and to start with cooked (soft). Of course I got the lecture protein first and maybe save two bites for vegetables. So what goes down easy. I hated wasting the time cooked and trying to eat protein that just didn't sit well and went straight into the trash. Does cauliflower go down easy if mashed? I don't care what, I'm going to put some chopped onions in my tuna and egg salad. lol I can't imagine lettuce would be good and you can't really chew that to liquid consistency. Any advice? I'm so excited.
  23. I was shocked that my surgeon charged $50,000. Insurance immediately paid $40,000. There is $10K pending, hopefully they will work that out. I'm pretty sure I heard my hospital was charging non-covered patients $27,500. So I wonder whats up with that. I was in the hospital overnight which is the typical stay.
  24. Wonder why Cleveland clinic is so expensive. My surgery was typical, no complications and was only in hospital overnight. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

    Sleep apnea as co-morbidity

I got the sleep study assuming it would show I had it and could use it as further support of insurance coverage. It did, mild sleep apnea. I snore. I was made to go to that doctor for clearance who did the hard sell of the cpap machine, which I had no intension of buying (insurance doesn't cover the good ones). But had some other crazy Co pay for his other testing. Bottom line, I told him thanks but no thanks. I'm getting sleeved please give me the clearance and test results for the apnea and off I went. Yes it helped with insurance. My daughter says I hardly snore anymore. She said thus 4 weeks out when we shared a hotel room. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
