  1. I'm expecting to start my puree next week. I have my follow up tomorrow, but would like to know your interpretation and what worked for you (yes, I know it doesn't work the same for all). I'm told introduce (regardless of which Phase) one new food at a time. Assuming its my Day One Pureed. Is that one new food at breakfast, one new food at lunch and one new food at dinner. Some of these pureed recipes I see has a couple of ingredients. I'm looking forward to eggs (but see others have a lot of trouble with them), and hummus, and I guess I can manage ricotta cheese. Or is it just going to be blended up soups and toss in some protein powder.
  2. Right now I'm opening the capsule and shaking some in my mouth followed by sips of Water. I hate that. What are others doing? I know in a couple of weeks, I can sprinkle them in applesauce or something else pureed. So I assume there is nothing liquid or chewable?

    Starting Liquids on Monday....any tips?

GENEPRO seems to be the unflavored Protein powder that many of us prefer. There is absolutely NO taste and mixes well with everything. If you go to their website, they sell ounce sample packs (30 grams each) so you can test them out first to make sure before you invest in the big tub. I'm forcing down a caramel premier Protein shake right now, ugh. But definitely going to have Genepro with some fluids for dinner.

    WLS Cruise in May 2017

I do a lot of cruising, some specialty get-togethers and this peaked my interest. However, for a specialty cruise, I would expect some special speakers, psychiatrists, nutritionists, etc for group support meetings. This just seems more for WLS patients to meet and eat together.

    Starting Liquids on Monday....any tips?

I actually had no trouble pre op liquid stage. Keep drinking Water in between your shakes and just avoid being around people who are eating real food and avoid smelling food. Keep your tummy full of water and broth between your shakes. I lost about 18 pounds during the two weeks. The day before it was clear only and that was a difficult day. My only advice might be, don't stock up too much as you might waste your money. Ready to drink shakes I had no issues with during my pre-op liquid stage, just tasted awful to me post-op.

    What to do?

Geez, I saw CA as her location. Silly me, assumed California. I didn't read past the Cuba thing. Yes, I know Canadians can go to Cuba. I worked at the US Interest Section in Havana for a few years back in the 80s.

    Easy protein hack!

I'm only a week post op, but had used GENEPRO during my pre-op and even before that. Its tasteless, mixes well in just about anything I've tried. I know so many who are using it and they are all having good results. "Come off as bro-science d-bags". Why because they are muscle guys? What is your background that you say its not scientific enough.

    Easy protein hack!

According to the Magazine Article here by Elizabeth Anderson RN, Protein 101. she writes, "Did you know the body simply cannot absorb more than 30 grams of protein per meal? If any of your Protein drinks or bars are promising more than this per serving, don’t be fooled into thinking you are giving your body that full amount." I've read that in other areas as well. That is so important, when some patients think they can fake the system by double upping on scoops of protein powder.

    What to do?

I'm not sure what type of Cuba vacation you were planning, but just in case you think Cuba is wide open for U.S. tourists, and you could be sunny yourself on a Varadero Beach, it is not. Travel to Cuba for tourist activities remains prohibited by statute. There are, however, 12 categories of authorized travel. The Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued general licenses in all 12 categories of authorized travel, subject to appropriate conditions. Family visits; official business of the U.S. government, foreign governments, and certain intergovernmental organizations; journalistic activity; professional research and professional meetings; educational activities; religious activities; public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions, and exhibitions; support for the Cuban people; humanitarian projects; activities of private foundations or research or educational institutes; exportation, importation, or transmission of information or informational materials; and certain authorized export transactions. So if you fall under one of those 12, you may be considered, but also know, it would be a lot cheaper to fly to Jamaica if that is your other option.

    5 days post op

I'm six days post op. I use to love Water and cannot tolerate it anymore without flavor and even then it's hard. My first few days I was so worried about not getting sufficient liquids/protein. I'm not making an effort and it seems to be working to concentrate on getting it in. This morning I started on a nectar Fuzzy Navel, the whole pack with 16 ounces water and I'm still sipping it. It literally takes me a couple of hours to have my Protein. I hate the pain the left of my belly button. My nurse told me yesterday its something to do with the umbilical muscle or the muscle next to the umbilical incision and it takes long to heal from the trauma. I HATE it. ouchy. If I didn't have that pain, I think I could sleep better.

    3days post op from sleeve

My pain is on the left side of belly button and that incision closest is the largest. I don't have bad taste but brush constantly. No applesauce for me until 3rd week. It's hard getting 60 grams of Protein in. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
  16. Sleeved 8/10. My biggest issue is not being able to sleep and very bad lower back pain which I think is due to being in the same reclining position most of the day. It's only been the past couple of days. I'm going to ask if I can take a sleeping pill. I haven't had pain meds since 8/11. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

    Would you do it again?

I'm 5 days post op and have not vomited or dry heaves once. I follow the plan, just sip with breaks in between. Everything you read doesn't happen to all. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
  18. So happy to hear. I didn't want to be doing any damage to my tummy by using it. But it's either that or constantly pressing in the center as I walk. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
  19. I never got to talk to the doctor. Only the pharmacy student who brought them up to me. Maybe I will try, I'm nervous though. Never good with pills even on a good day Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

    3 days post op troubles

Whenever I lie down I get nauseus. I sleep in a recliner and it helps. I take prilosec capsule opened and shake the granular into my mouth with sips of Water. I'm a bit nauseus this morning though Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeved August 8th, 2016

I was sleeved on the 10th. I was sipping so slowly I just wasn't getting in all my fluids. Yesterday I made an effort to get my Protein in. Its so weird, I use to like my Protein shakes, but so much is a turn off now. I'm still not getting get near enough fluids and Proteins. Today I will try harder, but I can tell I'm drinking still sips, but a tad quicker together. I've felt a little pressure but nothing too bad.

    Surgery 8/9/16 VSG update

My surgery was Wednesday. Finished up by 11, sent to PACU to be monitored. I'd say it was around 1:30 when someone came by and said my room was ready. But the nurse sitting between me and another person (I think a man) on the other side of the curtain said she couldn't leave until she monitored the man a little longer. She sat there between both of us, not moving. Eventually someone else came along and took me up. We were in an area called MICU. My room also was very nice, nice view of blue skies with big puffy white clouds, it was very relaxing. They allow family members to spend the night but I didn't want anyone there. I wasn't able to walk around until about 11:30 as I had too many hookups, catheter, oxygen, heart, IV....and needed a nurse to help me the first couple of times, and although I tried to ask since 4 pm., they just didn't allow me until near midnight. I totally disliked the night nurse. I was having a very hard time getting out of bed and she backed up and said she couldn't help me. What a Bit***. All the other staff were wonderful. Too many people coming in and out all night taking blood sugar, blood pressure and so on. I was happy to get kicked out the next day.
  25. 3 days post op. First day wasn't so bad. No pain until I had to get up a move. a tad hunched over and need to hold the left side of my tummy as I walked. I'm quite swollen. It still hurts quite a bit to pull myself up. but at least I can maneuver off the recliner myself now. Not sure if my pain is incision pain or gas. it is right on an incision where it hurts most. Any gas pain was on my left side, I've not had any go to my shoulder. How long does gas pain last. I've been walking but probably not enough. its so hot here in So. Florida. I haven't used liquid codeine i went home with mostly because its gross and so sweet. I use the anti nausea meds each morning. I started Protein shakes today and had a bout of diarrhea. I wish I felt bettter, but in reality I have had no major issues.
