#4 Madeleine Renee I didn't mean to give you the impression I wasn't going to tell her because I am, at the next appointment. I hesitated this time because I mentioned to her about six months ago when my pulmonologist told me I needed to have the surgery and her response was "you need to change the way you eat!" Duh! No kidding! I am fully aware she needs to know so she can make the adjustments to my insulin. I did not have the support of my PCP so I had to find another one...I guess I just didn't want to hear anything negative she had to say.

Lol how cute! That dog doesn't want you to go anywhere! My cat sits on my head too and you would be surprised at the funky sounds that comes from his stomach!

Tssiemer1 Unfortunately I have no family close by. Even if I did I wouldn't let my mom keep them because she is not a cat person, at all!

Just a comment....I started Trulicity 3 months ago and I don't have a problem with the needle because I take insulin every day so I'm used to the needles. The medication has worked wonders with me, my A1c was the lowest it has ever been in 13 years..its 5.9.I have made lifestyle changes though (stopped eating fast food, exercising only moderately though) Anyway, I saw my endocrinologist just today and told her the Trulicity helped me lose some weight (only moderately as well) and she told me with her patients that lose weight on the Trulicity always gain it back after about 6 months. I didn't tell her I was having WLS. I hope the Victozia works for you, I think you lose more weight with this medication vs the Trulicity anyway,

He looks so sweet I have cats but I love dogs too hence the animallover1247. I understand, my cat is attached to me as well, can't even go to the bathroom without him following me!

Poor choice of words on my part. I truly love my dogs. They've brought a great deal of pleasure to every member of the family and are great pals. They wouldn't have known any better and it would have been 100% my fault. That being said, it's been easy to take precautions for small dogs. A large cat that can jump........that scares me as sore as I am now. That's why I suggested a crate for those times when your guard is down and you are resting. My surgery is not until mid Jan but I am going to have to figure out something. I've never boarded him at all. He's a sweet cat so I think he would do okay but for a week while the drain is in??? Maybe I need to put him on a diet!

i haven't been able to find a place where they sell them by the boxes but at Walmart they carry the individual size Premier Protein bars for 1.18 each. 30g of Protein but they have 290 calories..that is the Chocalate Peanut Butter flavor.

I know this is a crazy question but it is a concern. I have two cats. My one cat is long, fat, 17 lbs and has a lot of muscle to him. He thinks he owns my body. He jumps on me all the time, even in the middle of the night. I have a queen size bed for him to jump onto but he jumps on me every single time. The other day he jumped on my chest from my head board and and almost knocked the breath out of me. I am concerned this may be a problem with the drain and even my pain. I don't know what to do because I can't close him off. If I shut my bedroom door, he can get to the litter box. Any time I try to shut any door in my apartment, even the bathroom door, he continually scratches on it until I open it and it is wood so I can't let him do that either. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I live alone and asked my surgeon if I would be able to care for myself after surgery. He said it would be better to have someone there but if you can't, you can't. I will try and prepare as much as I can beforehand and hope for the best!

I wouldn't schedule the surgery until you have gone through some counseling over the alcohol issue.I think drinking after surgery is a very,very slippery slope. One issue is your body doesn't process alcohol in the same way and you get drunk much quicker. I can't say if you are an addict now or not but if you start to drink after surgery, there is a huge likelihood you will become an addict based on the information you have given. I even discussed this same issue with my therapist...trading one addition for another. i don't drink at all now so the way for me to avoid not becoming an alcohol is to never pick up the first drink. However, you drink now and it sounds as if you still intend on drinking at some point after surgery. Please get some counseling, discuss this with your surgeon... do SOMETHING to address this before surgery is scheduled. I wish you all the best!

I know death is a risk for WLS and I'm not overly concerned about it...just wanted to know if anyone is aware of another who died from WLS (particularly the sleeve) and why the death occurred. This is part of my extensive research. I will have the surgery regardless of the responses because if it don't, I will be the one dying!

I agree with Miss Mac. I have not told anyone at work nor am I going to. I know they will know at some point but I'm not volunteering the information at this time. You really have to be careful of who you chose to tell. I think there is a stigma attached to having WLS. Additionally people can't resist giving their opinions about something they are not educated about and obviously have not done any research on. I would not engage in any conversations with them if all they can do is criticize you but that is just my opinion.

i have been placed on Lyica for fibromyalgia pain and it helps tremendously. However, I have gained a significant amount of weight on the medication as weight gain is a side effect.I have tried to go off the medication and it didn't even last one day. I asked my surgeon about this and he said it is definitely a problem me having to be on the medication after surgery but didn't offer any alternative (gabapentin doesn't work). He told me he gained weight on the medication as well. I have researched it and any medication that causes weight gain is a concern after surgery. Am I going to have to go through all of this for nothing???????? I have diabetes, hypertension and sleep apnea.

I recently had my consultation and asked if it would be possible for me to return to work in one week, he said yes. I am hoping to recover quickly because I have not told anyone at work. However, they will definitely know sooner or later because I never take off extended periods of time, unless it is for vacation. Eventually they will notice the weight loss and they will figure it out.....

When I attended the mandatory seminar, my surgeon said he had a female patient who blamed him for her divorce (which is absurd). He stated if your marriage/relationships with significant others is strong before the weight loss, it will only grow stronger. If it wasn't great before the weight loss, it is likely you will have problems. I agree.

I had a second sleep study so they could determine what pressure I needed so the apnea could be corrected. They said it was corrected at the pressure set but I'm not reaping any rewards from it! The lady at the medical supply place told me sometimes it takes 6-12 months to see any results. Whether that's true or not I don't know. Lol If I told you all the tricks I've tried to get myself to stay awake while driving you would think I was a crazy fool! And yes, that includes hitting myself.

i visited my pulmonologist yesterday and he told me he fully expects my sleep apnea will resolve but stated it wil take me losing 50-100 lbs. I asked my surgeon how much weight I would need to lose for the apnea to stop and he said "everyone is different." I have been on the CPAP machine since May and I cannot tell any difference at all. I am so tired some days I feel drunk. When I'm driving, I cant wait to get to a stop light so I can close my eyes for a minute. My apnea was classified as MODERATE.

I've experienced the same thing a lot, especially in the workplace. SOMETIMES I think skinny people say those things as a way to seek compliments from others or for others to tell them how skinny and tiny they are. I might have been tempted to tell her she needed to start the diet yesterday because she is a big fat cow!
