I am 8 days post op and just got to add full liquids and protein to my diet ... makes a huge difference. However, when I was still on clear liquids, I was only eating a few ounces three times a day. I just did not have an appetite, but decided to embrace that as part of my new lifestyle.

I was banded on Friday, 2/1, and went back to work for a half day on Monday. I was then back fulltime on Tuesday, although I did cut my days short, usually, they are close to 12 hours and this week has been closer to 9 or 10 hours.

I was banded on 2/1 by Dr. Wagner in St. Louis. I spent one night in the hospital and have been on tylenol during the day, RX pain meds at night, mainly to help me sleep. I went back to work on Monday for a 1/2 day and a full day today. I feel pretty good, some gas pain, and for the first time today, hunger. I see the doctor tomorrow for a follow up and can not wait to stop eating clear liquids. As of today, I am down about 15 pounds.

I had to spend the night so I brought loose fitting clothes to wear in the hospital. I also brought a toothbrush, hand lotion, lip balm, because you get very dehydrated on ice chips, even with an IV. I also brought my phone, blackberry, and some books to read.

So, I woke up this morning and thought in 24 hours, I will be checking in the hospital ... hard to believe it is finally here. I thought that I would be more worried today (never been hospitalized or anthesia), but I am really excited, and really glad that I only have one more week of broth and Jello ahead of me. After almost 10 days of preop broth diet, I can not wait for some Protein and a thicker Soup. Is anyone else getting banded tomorrow?

My diet consisted of the same things, water, broth, jello, sugar free popsicles, Propel ... no dairy, no protein. I lost 14 pounds in about 8 days. Good luck to you.

Thank you all for your support. I am now about 48 hours post op. I came home yesterday and having been doing pretty well. Moving around certainly helps as does having a good friend stay with me to provide physical and moral support. Good luck to everyone scheduled on Monday.

Well, I have actually been traveling for work so have not weighed myself for a few days, but last time I checked, I had lost almost 10 pounds according to my bathroom scale. Now, keep in mind, I have been only on clear fluids, no Protein, no dairy, no solid foods so the weight flew off. Now, my only concern is making sure I get home tonight! St. Louis is due to be hit with snow tonight and so a bad flight delay may create some problems since I need to be at the hospital at 5 am!

Hi there -- I am scheduled for surgery on 2/1. I am on clear liquid pre op diet (broth, Jello, popsicles, etc.) without any Protein, and expect to be on the same diet post surgery, so far it has been 5 days and I have 10 days ahead of me. I feel really weak and exhausted. Has anyone else faced this? I am hoping it is like other things where once you hit a wall and move on it gets better ... wishful thinking, I suppose. Thanks. I wish it was a mistake, it says very clearly no protein, no dairy, in big letters at the bottom. I think I will suffer through this week, and ask if I can "break" the rules post op, just so my body has something to help it heal!

Hi -- I'd appreciate any insight regarding business meals during the pre and post op diet. I am currently only on Clear Liquids and will be traveling as well as entertaining clients. Any tips to make this more managable? I'm planning on packing some boullion cubes, but it is not always easy to find a microwave or hot Water in hotels, airports, etc. Plus, I will need to dine with clients and colleagues, I do not really want to explain the diet. Any hints? I know it will be much easier in few weeks when I hit mushie food, but have several things between now and then. Thanks. Cynthia

Yes, we do need to follow the diet. However, I would kill for a protein shake ... all I get is clear liquids pre surgery ... no dairy, no protein. I'd love some tofu right now :smile:

That's crazy, the insurance process is hard enough, why on Earth would he think that he could skip a step? I'm sorry to hear that. If it helps, my psych eval was covered by insurance and also happened pretty quickly.

Hi -- I am preparing for surgery and trying to get a handle on exactly what is forbidden post-surgery. I felt like I had read alot, but this forum has been extremely helpful and sparked several other questions. Specifically, what exactly is completely forbidden? I just read that asprin and NSAIDs were ... someone mentioned caffeine? I've resolved myself to giving up my Diet Coke, but no caffeine? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks. Cynthia
