    Another year alone

Hi Daveo- as someone who has been single for awhile and comfortable with it, my suggestion mirrors that of others in here: concentrate on falling in love with yourself, first. Learn the joy of being alone and find things to fill that alone time with that you like. Even if one of those things are naps! For instance, I've reading and cooking. Now, while I really love to.cook for another person, I have found enjoyment in cooking for myself, too. I will even go see a movie alone if it's something I really want to see. I don't let my singled prevent me from personally experiencing fulfillment and.happiness. of course, it would be wonderful to find that other half, but in the meantime, I am working on myself and keeping an open mind and heart. Be the person you want to find. You know what I mean? Putting out those good vibrations of energy will bring you to your place in life, or bring that place to you- when you are ready for it, or when you and that other person on in sync. Does that make sense? On a personal note, may I ask where you live?

how to reset your metabolism with excersize and food?

A good natural supplement that I have used to help.my metabolism is chromium. You could try adding that to your daily regimen, along with some of the other suggestions posted. I personally find that walking does a great deal of good!

Early on exerciser- lower back ache

I get back pain from standing at work all day. I have found that stretching and beginner's yoga for back pain (on YouTube by Adrienne) helps a great deal! An easy heat pack you can use again and again is: take a longer sock and fill with uncooked rice and even dried beans if like. If you are not herbs and aromatherapy, add your own mixtures either as dried for inside or a few oil drops. Mine are just / rice and beans, though. Tie shut after filling full but enough room to contour/bend sock. Heat in microwave 1-2 min max. Will stay hot/warm for quite awhile. Can be used multiple times and applied to wherever- in my case, back and neck/shoulders. Even my 89 year old Grammy loves it!

Just starting out, sharp ankle pain after walking?

My ankle area and lower calves tend to tighten up and cause pain, much like sprains. I found that my main problem was that I walked flat footed! Try doing an exercise of standing on your toes near a wall in reps like weight training. It will strengthen that area. Another good exercise and stretch is rolling something like a towel into a tight tube and standing with your feet balancing on the tube, not touching the ground. The stabilization your body goes.through with this is what helps make your ankles stronger. You can also try ace wraps during exercise. I fractured my foot and did that for quite some time for walking to work, and it helped my ankles, too.

    Cardio and Strength Training Schedule

So far I walk 2.8 miles 5 days/week, I do the arc trainer elliptical no more than 30 minutes on the weight loss or strength setting about 2-3/week and now that I'm cleared for weights, will be adding strength training. I just need to figure out a good weights routine? Any suggestions?

I made Seitan today, 26 grams protein!

I went to a vegan pizzeria in Philadelphia since they were voted #2 best veggie cheese steak. It was made with seitan and it was out of this world! I. Am going to check out your link because I'd love to try making my own! Thanks for this!
  9. I'd like to add that Shakeology, though a little too expensive for me.these days (bout 3$ a serving/shake), has a few vegan protein shake powders. I had the chocolate and I really enjoyed it.

    Forks over Knives

I am 3 weeks post open and have been a vegetarian for over two years. I did try being a vegan (no animal products at all) and ethically I identify more with vegans, but I just found that for me, personally, I do better with dairy in my diet. I know post surgery vegans exist, but I imagine it came with some challenges. To get my protein post surgery, I rely on beans, soy based products including tofu and faux meats (gardein and Quorn brands being my fave) as well as eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, and milk. Once I am further long and have a better handle on eating, I will transition back to unsweetened original almond milk for use in cooking and in beverages. I am also going to try a tofu and spinach scramble instead of egg scramble. I had an organic frozen entree of this made by Annie brand and ioved it! Was expensive for my budget, though. Try using textured vegetable protein TVP or gardein's meatless ground "beef" in beef recipes (chili, texmex) or Quorn faux chicken. I have added that chicken to soup,.pasta, as the main focus, or under a lemon butter sauce and goat cheese with sundries tomatoes (aka chicken Bryan). I want to explore cooking tofu better, though. Seems to be better when others make it but I haven't given up, yet! (Ps, soft tofu can be used as a base for fruit smoothies or freeze mixture and eat as frozen treat. I really liked both!)

considering going vegetarian, need some advice

I love the red quinoa! I use it in place of rice.

considering going vegetarian, need some advice

I highly recommend gardein's meatless ground "beef". Try it on your and I bet he won't notice much, if any difference. I use it to make veggie chili, empanadas, tacos, basically anything that you would traditionally use ground beef in. For chicken, Quorn makes the best, imo. I also am part I to tofu scrambles and tempeh reubans. In addition, I eat soups a lot because they are easy and healthy if you make them right! I just made a veggie Soup using Bob's Red Mill dried soup mix (has little.pasta,.lentils, etc) and then added veggie broth, black Beans, corn and tomato. Would have added onion if I had it. Seasoned it and it is super good. Moroccan Chickpea soup is another fave. Eggplant moussaka is so tasty but it does require a little more effort than I normally expend on a weekly basis. Quiches are easy and you can load them with veggies and get away with it. If you like stir fry, you could use regular chicken for his and Quorn chicken in yours. Allrecipes has some veggie recipes, or just Google. I'm actually not that diverse in my veggies but I find what like and go from there. I served all vegan sides over thanksgiving for my family and they loved it all! I found that mushrooms are a godsend in flavoring just about anything (besides my usual faves of onion, garlic, vinegar, cilantro, or cumin!)

    Vegetarian Getting Gastic Sleeve

I am wondering.g the same! So far I haven't had any issues. Doc said to rely on dairy and beans, plus soy products, which was what I did before gastric bypass so no issues. I wish there was more info sites, recipes, etc out on the net, though.
  15. I have been a vegetarian for over two years for ethical and health reasons. I recently had the roux n y done so most of my thoughts and advice are from pre surgery, keep that in mind. That being said, it is entirely possible and not difficult to be a vegetarian! Before or after surgery! Protein staples post surgery will be eggs, dairy in general, beans, tofu/soy products, including faux meat like my favorite, gardein's meatless ground "beef". I love black beans and chickpeas, lentils, peas.....Bob's Red Mill makes a veg soup mix that I add additional beans, corn, tomatoes, etc to with some veggie broth. Moroccan Chickpea soup is a fave, too. I also love cheese and dairy so I make quiches , add cheese to up flavor and protein, as well as use plain greek yogurt as a topping replacement for sour cream. Experiment with veggies and recipes you can find online, especially through allrecipes.com. tofu can be substituted for any meat, though there are premade tofu dishes that you may want to try first. Also, once onto regular foods diet, Tempeh is great to make veggie reubans. Yum! Oh and Quorn makes excellent faux chicken. Highly recommend! I find this stuff I. My grocer's organic aisle, Wal-Mart doesn't carry this stuff yet to my knowledge. Commit for a week, preplan and pre make your dishes because healthy vegetarian done right requires some cooking and planning. Then go for two weeks. If you are craving tuna or some other meat, indulge and then go back to no meat products. I still will eat a burger every now and again, and then I move on. I have felt so much better since becoming a vegetarian. My food tastes better, I can isolate the individual flavors without the heaviness of meat drowning it out. Also, season I.g is a big key component to making veggies and food more than just ordinary. It became a lot of fun for me to try new stuff and introduce my family to it! If you are interested in any recipes I utilize, please let me know. I don't like anything too complicated or time consuming. Sorry I kind of jumped around, I get so excited when other ppl take interest in bettering themselves and the world through their forks. OH...YOU MUST WATCH "Forks Over Knives". Must. I saw it on Netflix. It is a great documentary, will change how you look at health and food and history.

    1st week weight loss

I lost 10 my first week and stalled since. I just started pureed and soft foods so doc says I should be getting out of starvation stall soon!

    Food dreams and cravings

Ok, my doc said our stomachs aren't made for just liquids, they are made for food. So after surgery, your body can go into starvation mode, which is what mine has been doing. He said I will see more improvements now that I have started pureed food.

    Food dreams and cravings

My surgery was July 29. I lost ten lbs the first week and nothing more. Weeks two, nothing. I have no problem drinking water.....I drink about 80 oz just in water, and my caloric intake is 400-500 or less. So I think the same- eventually something has to give! But maybe your NUT is right. I see my doc/surgeon tomorrow so ill.let you know what he says!

    2 days post op

Well, I am now 2 days post op. When I awoke after surgery, I was in a lot more pain and discomfort than I had expected. I definitely had "buyer's remorse". But today is a much better day. I haven't had trouble getting food or water down, although of course I get full easily! I took a shower and have been walking around. Still have tummy tenderness but it is manageable.

Also yesterday I mixed a quarter cup of sugar free jello vanilla pudding with a quarter cup greek plain yogurt. Gave it a little extra flavor from the pudding. I liked it, and got some protein in.
