  1. So glad I found some December sleevers! I had surgery on 12/1 and the doctor found a hiatal hernia and repaired that at the same time. Overall things are going well. No more pain meds but getting enough Water is so hard! 1 week post op down 6.3 from surgery date and puréed food start today!

I had surgery on 12/9. My doc informed me today he found a hiatal hernia and repaired it during surgery as well. I am able to get all my liquids in, thank goodness. I have my first follow up on the 16th. I hope to move on into another phase food wise. I can't wait until Monday to remove the On-Q. It truly the most annoying thing. So awkward.

  2. The waiting period depends on the insurance plan you have and what your employer stipulates.

For instance, the insurance through my hubby's company has a 3 month requirement, my company has a 6 month requirement.

First thing I would find out from whatever insurance plan you have is do they cover bariatric surgery? If so, what are the requirements? Get the requirements in writing, have it mailed, emailed or printed off their website. Then start getting those requirements in. You'd be surprised as to how quickly time goes by.

  3. Hi, I just started back with my job 2 months ago. They offer bcbs as their insurance but from what I have read they make you wait 6-7 months to get approved with the diet. How long does Cigna actually make you wait with the diet before they approve you? Also, what plan exactly do I need to have them to pay for it? Thanks

The Cigna plan we have is 3 months through my husband's employer. However, I know other people who have CIgna that have to wait 6 months - this is actually dictated by the employer.

Plans vary widely as to deductibles and out of pocket cost in addition to the premiums so it depends on what's offered if through an employer.

If you are planning on paying for your heath insurance out of pocket, the information would be in the health insurance website or via the health insurance exchanges.

  4. I coordinate health insurance for our company and every one I looked at excluded bariatric surgery. My insurance agent told me that Texas still hasn't determined that bariatric surgery is medically necessary, so insurance companies don't have to cover it. Contrary to the post above, it's probably not your employer excluding it. My doctor said Humana and BCBSTX were the worst at trying to get approval. Some other insurance companies will approve you after you jump through some hoops. Good luck!

I work in health insurance. I can assure you it's offered as an option and it's up to the employer as to whether or not they choose to carry the option. There are other people in Texas who are having bariatric surgery and it's covered through plans provided by their employers.

If the health insurance is through an exchange it may be a different story.
