    avoiding temptation when...

I have a 7 year old boy who eats like a teenager. The first few weeks the thought of eating what I was cooking for him and my husband made me cringe. It did not sound good or smell good. Once I was on solid food I make a Protein and veggies and then I can make a carb of some kind for them. Last night I grilled chicken, steamed green Beans and made them a packaged Pasta dish. I ate the chicken and veggies and the pasta didn't even appeal to me. I think you will find your taste buds change. Sweets are icky to me now as are chips. I still struggle with wanting bread but I am able to avoid it because I want the weight loss more.

    2+ weeks post op

What did your Nutritionist tell you? Everyone's plan is different. 16 days after surgery I was on solid food eating chicken and steak and ground beef with green Beans and zucchini. Are you drinking the 64 oz of Water a day so you are not mistaking thirst for hunger?

    Lettuce anyone?

I'm not allowed to have iceberg lettuce. But I was eating salad around the third week. I have not had any trouble keeping it down. I use Bibb and romaine (I tear out the middle hard stem), red/green leaf lettuce and butter lettuce. I add very finely diced cucumber, shredded carrot, chopped tomato and it doesn't bother me at all.

    Depression, Anxiety and Anger

Alisawoo22 - I so agree with you on the family thing. This would be so much easier if it were only me in the house. I could only buy what I want and I wouldn't have to cook a family meal.
  5. I think it's definitely different for everyone. I have found that if I eat any carbs that do not come from veggies and fruit the scale goes up. So I have to stick to Proteins with non-starchy veggies and i have a small serving of fruit once a day in the mornings.

    Vitamins

I don't know about those, but in the program I used they tell us just to use Flintstones Complete Chewables. It has to be the ones that say Complete on them.

    Effexor and slow weight loss

I was sleeved on the same day and I take Celexa. I've also had a slow weight loss. I don't know if it's related or not. But the alternative is not pretty. Without the Celexa I want to go out and stomp on baby squirrel heads and do nothing but cry.

    Protein Bars?

Another vote for Quest. Also the Quest Protein chips if you are really craving something salty. I put the light Laughing Cow cheese on them.

    Why Am I So Tired?

I'm betting on not enough calories. How major are your workouts? If you are eating 900 calories a day and then working out really hard for an hour, you could be burning anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 of those calories. I don't think your body can sustain itself for long on 400 to 600 calories.

    How did you know?

I saw people who had weight loss surgery and were really successful with it. So since my husband's insurance would pay for it I decided to go for it. I have high blood pressure and very bad osteoarthritis in my knees. Originally I had a lap band done in August 2012. It was good for the first two years but then towards the end of 2014 I started throwing up everything I tried to eat - even ice cream. And I would often throw up liquids too. After that I could never get into the green zone with the fills. We tried from November to April when I finally decided forget this and asked for a revision to the sleeve. I had the lap band removed and the sleeve done on June 1st and I'm much happier with my new choice. I originally chose the lap band because it was less invasive surgery. I didn't want my intestines rerouted or my stomach chopped off. But after the issues I had I decided that losing most of my stomach was a much better option. I didn't want bypass because I have Celiac disease and already have malabsorption problems.
  11. Turn on the music and start dancing. A song typically lasts 3-4 minutes. If you are sitting in a chair do leg lifts or arm circles or toe taps.

    Left shoulder pain.

I had it in my right shoulder really, really bad. Turns out I strained it because I was using my arms to push myself up off the couch and the toilet. I'm right handed so I was using my dominant arm more.

    Newly sleeved.Lower back pain.

I had that with my sleeve too. I work from home and I had to move everything to the couch because I couldn't sit in the chair at my desk for more than five minutes. It took several weeks but it finally went away.

Roll call all who had surgery JUNE 2015

No, not at all. It takes a little longer. For instance I cook a chicken breast on the bone from frozen for 15 minutes a side. I cook almost all my meat from frozen - it's just easier. Pull out a steak, pop it on there and hit the button.
  15. I had that requirement in 2012 but not for my band to sleeve revision in June. My doctor just wrote a letter that I had been doing WW for six months and had done Atkins and several other programs before that without being successful and the insurance accepted that.

    Anthem BlueCross

It was actually an insurance requirement for the first one and a hospital requirement for the 2nd one the morning of surgery. Since I had not had a hysterectomy they insisted on it. I had to pee anyway that morning so no big deal.

    Taco

I make the taco meat and put that with shredded cheese and tomato on lettuce.
  18. If you keep having the urge to snack, snack on deli meat rollups or cheese sticks, or chicken breast or steamed shrimp. That will help you get both calories and Protein.

    Slider foods

My surgeon considers any carbs pretty much slider foods. Every time I go in for a follow up he reminds me not to eat mashed potatoes. He has this hang up about mashed potatoes. I always remind him that I hate mashed potatoes and I'd rather eat a can of Little Friskies.

Roll call all who had surgery JUNE 2015

Have you tried marinating the chicken in something like fat free Italian dressing or cooking it in some chicken broth? With hamburgers I have to have mine medium instead of well done to be able to eat it. I like pork with fat free honey mustard dressing. We have a Nu Wave oven like you see on TV and it's well worth the money. You can cook your meat from frozen and it stays really juicy. My husband hates turkey but he will eat turkey cooked in the Nu Wave because it's not all dried out. My surgery was June 1st. I'm down 29 lbs since surgery. I haven't had any problems with any foods but I'm a band to sleeve revision and my sleeve is a little larger - he only took out 75%.

    Having Doubts

And you will find that there are foods you can eat that are just as delicious. Yesterday I had grilled filet mignon and grilled zucchini for lunch. Today I'm having broiled lobster tail and salad. Does that sound like I"m deprived because I can't have cake? Oh and I'm really bad - I told my husband it was my special diet food. LOL!

    Cheated on liquid diet

On my pre-op diet chicken wings would have been just fine. Mine was 3-4 oz of Protein and a salad 3 meals a day plus 2 Protein shakes for 2 weeks before surgery. It will be fine.

    Having Doubts

It's normal to have doubts. But you have to weigh which is more important - getting your health back or running the possibility of a complication. Yes they can happen. But there are many people who have had the surgery with no complications. All surgeries have risks. But your diabetes and other co-morbidities are risks to your health and life too. I don't have a never. I have had some diet soda. I tried ice cream but found it really nasty and way too sweet. You may find your taste buds change. I used to eat Lay's potato chips by the 1 lb bagful. I tried one at a church picnic a couple of weeks ago and it was awful. I used to eat candy bars for lunch. Now sweets do not appeal to me at all.

Pre op- which should I choose ?

My surgeon told me that actually the sleeve isn't all that new. He said that with really, really obese people who were having bypass surgery years ago that they would do a sleeve first so they could lose some weight and then go back in and do the bypass. And they were finding that people lost weight with just the sleeve procedure and were able to do well with that so they started offering just the sleeve procedure by itself. However, if you have GERD or severe heartburn, many people have found that the sleeve makes it worse. I got rid of my GERD with a hernia surgery but many on here have talked about the heartburn with the sleeve.

    From lapband to sleeve? Anyone?

Yes I did. I had the lap band in 2012 and by earlier this year I was throwing up everything I ate. I lost about the same amount of weight with the band you did. They couldn't get me in the green zone with the fill. I decided at the end of April to switch and had a revision from band to sleeve in one surgery on June 1st. I'm so happy with the revision. No more throwing up. The scale is moving downward. I can eat chicken again - I could never eat chicken with the band. I would do it again in a heartbeat. And the best part is no more port in my stomach that would move and scrape on a nerve and give me a sharp stabbing pain!
