    I wish I knew.....

My nutritionist said that Flintstone Chewables Complete are perfectly fine. I buy the Walgreen's version as the Vitamins and minerals in it match and they are much cheaper. I wish I would have known that the gas pain in the hospital could be in my shoulder instead of my stomach. My left shoulder hurt so bad. I never had much stomach pain at all.

    Belly sleepers

I'm a stomach sleeper and I was doing it in the hospital. I just used a pillow to prop up against. Same thing at home - I use a pillow and I haven't had any problems.

    Drinking through a straw

I hate, hate, hate Water and will only drink it with a straw. It hasn't caused me any problems yet. I don't like Crystal Light or any of those other things either. Prior to surgery I only ever drank diet soda. Now I'm drinking lots of plain water with lots of ice but it has to have a straw. I haven't had any issues with gas or burping or anything like that.

    Back Pain

Yes - I'm starting my 4th week out from surgery and I have back pain. I work from home and I cannot sit at my desk or at the kitchen table to work. I have to work sitting on the couch and moving around frequently. I'm going to ask my surgeon about it tomorrow.
  5. I don't remember anything after they inserted the IV and started the good stuff. Versed is really good stuff. I don't even really remember going into the operating room and I woke up in my hospital room. The worst part for me was that they had trouble starting the IV. Apparently they put it in one place and moved it twice while I was in surgery.

Pre-Op Diet Starts in One Week!

What does your pre-op diet consist of? It seems that not all surgeons do the same thing. Mine was not liquid at all. It was 3 meals of 300 calories each Protein and veggies only and 2 shakes a day. You can do it if you really want the surgery and want to make the commitment to change your eating habits.
  7. For my band to sleeve revision the insurance company only made me go through the psychiatric visit again. Plus the normal pre-op EKG and blood work that pretty much everyone has to have for any kind of surgery. The surgeon only made me to do the psychiatric appointment too.

    Food progression?

It seems to be different depending on your surgeon and nutritionist. I only had 10 days of liquids/cream soups/yogurt and then was able to transition to solids. I didn't have a puree and soft foods phase. I have limited foods to eat - lean Proteins and veggies and the only veggies are summer squash, zucchini and green Beans. And my surgeon's pre-op was not liquids. It was lean proteins and veggies 3 meals a day and 2 Protein shakes. Or you could have a WW or Lean Cuisine meal as long as it had less than 300 calories and at least 20 grams of protein.
  9. I'm 3 weeks post op - starting week #4. My nutritionist's plan only has liquids for 10 days before starting solids. Breakfast is usually scrambled egg or a cheese stick or cheese slices or the Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt. lunch is 4 to 5 oz of lean grilled Protein and veggies. dinner is the same. I'm loving zucchini dipped in egg and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese and baked. I just got fresh green Beans to steam in my produce box this week. And I like salad too.
  10. I can only stand the Syntrax nectar Protein shakes - chocolate truffle is my favorite but I also like the strawberry, Caribbean cooler (tastes like a pina colada), Crystal Sky and twisted cherry. I make mine with skim milk and freeze them for about 35-40 minutes to get it milkshake consistency. I like it so much better that way.
  11. Mine said it only covered one WLS, but I just had a revision from the band to the sleeve 3 weeks ago and they covered it. My surgeon listed it as complications due to band failure and I only had to pay my maximum out of pocket for my insurance.

Band to sleeve in one procedure

Yes, the nutritionist said it was fine to do lean Proteins and green veggies at the end of week two. I just had to do Protein shakes, yogurt and cream soups the first 2 weeks. The program at the hospital I went to progresses you to solids between day 10 and day 14.
  13. I am three weeks out from surgery. And yes I can eat regular food without any problems and eat 1000 calories a day easily. A meal is 5 oz of Protein and a salad no problem. I do have a nutritionist but she's on vacation. I'm thinking I got a bigger stomach after the surgery. I have had zero problems with eating anything and I can chug a glass of Water easily too with no problems. I see my surgeon next week. I'm not eating crap food - I'm eating lean protein and veggies but I can still eat more than I should be able to at this point.

    Drains?

The nurse pulled out mine before I left the hospital. It didn't really hurt but it was just mildly uncomfortable coming out. I winced a little. I didn't watch her pull it out though. No thanks.

    Out patient or not

I had surgery on a Monday morning and went home Wednesday afternoon. I had to be able to keep down liquids before I could go home and they don't do the swallow leak test until the following day after surgery. Water and ice the first day after surgery and then Protein shakes the second day.
  16. I'm two weeks out - this is my 3rd week. I'm easily eating 1,000 calories of normal food. I weigh, measure and track on My Fitness Pal. I lost 20 lbs the first week and nothing the second. I'm sticking to Protein and veggies and figure something is going to happen soon. I go back to my surgeon next week so I'll see what he says. I'm not hungry at all, but I don't feel any restriction either.
  17. Mine for my band and my revision to sleeve was Dr. Matthew Martin and I had the surgery done at Wesley Long Hospital.

    Drains?

I didn't have one for my band but I did for my band to sleeve revision. They pulled it out the morning I went home. It was a pain and they had to pin it up to my gown so I could do my walking in the hallways or it was banging on my knees. That incision is still the sore one 2 weeks later.

    Gerd and hernia repair

When I originally had my band done back in 2012 the surgeon told me that he thought my GERD was related to a hernia and if it was when he got in there he was going to fix it. It was and he did. I had a revision to a sleeve 2 weeks ago and have had no problems with GERD. None since the hernia repair.
  20. I lost 20 lbs the first week and nothing the second. This is week 3 for me and I saw a small drop this morning. I figured it was such a big loss the first week my body had to catch up.

Band to sleeve question. Please help.

I agree that you would have to check with them. I have Anthem BCBS and my band to sleeve revision was covered just like my original band was. My surgeon just put on the forms that my band malfunctioned.

    Anthem BlueCross

I have Anthem BCBS and when I had my first surgery they told me I didn't choose a Bariatric Center of Excellence. I explained to them that I went to the center THEY TOLD ME TO GO TO. They checked their records and admitted they made a mistake and I was good to go. I would appeal.

Band to sleeve in one procedure

I had the band removed and the sleeve done in one operation 2 weeks ago. I was in the hospital for 2 days and then home and everything has gone just fine. Vomiting is gone. food stays down. I ate some grilled steak and zucchini today with no problems at all. My surgeon just told the insurance company my band was malfunctioning and they covered it no problem. I just had to repeat the psychiatric visit. It only took a couple of weeks for the insurance to approve. I've had less pain with this surgery than I did with my band surgery. I only took the pain meds a couple of times in the hospital and none at home.
  24. I had the band in 2012 and lost 80 lbs. Then it just stopped and I started throwing up pretty much everything I ate. All the fill adjustments both in and out weren't helping at all. So 2 weeks ago I had the band removed and a sleeve done instead. So far, so good. No more throwing up and everything I've tried has stayed down with no problems. I'm very happy I did it.
