    Basically eating questions

I had scrambled eggs on day 8 and went to solids on day 10. That's my surgeon's plan. Today I had broiled lobster tail for lunch. Yesterday I had grilled ribeye steak. I've had filet mignon several days this month too. I'd much rather have lobster than Pasta. I can eat 1/2 a hamburger with no bun - I put it on Bibb lettuce leaves instead. I don't like sweets any longer. I've tried them and ick. They don't taste good any longer. So since I know they don't taste good to me I don't want to eat them. Ice cream was the worst - it was AWFUL.
  2. Yep I'm right there with you. I'm losing about the same - 2 lbs a week. I finally decided that 10 lbs a month was going to be my goal and I will live with it. I'm 52 and post-menopausal and I can't do major exercise because of really bad osteoarthritis in my knees. I have no cartilage left and I'm bone on bone. I start aqua arthritis classes on Monday 3 times a week so I'm hoping that helps.
  3. Anesthesia freaks me out totally. Versed is my friend. With my lap band surgery I don't even remember going out of the holding area to the operating room. With this last surgery for my revision to sleeve I went out going down the hall. I tell them I'm freaked out by the anesthesia and they give me a nice dose of Versed. Heck I don't even remember the recovery room. I woke up in my room for the 2 nights I had to stay in the hospital.

    I feel so full...

Plain Water gives me major heartburn. I have to do something else with it.

    Good luck!

    Hamburgers are gross

I use Bibb lettuce leaves for the burger. I still use cheese, tomato, onion and sometimes dill pickle. I either use half a patty or make a smaller patty for me if we are making them from just ground beef. Bibb lettuce leaves also work well for BLTs.

    Questions for Surgeon

We had to attend a pre-op "training" session. The surgeon's bariatric coordinator does it. It was a slide show and a boatload of videos and a Q&A session. It covered everything about the surgery - actually more that I wanted to know. It also covered all the pre-op diet and post-op for the first 2 weeks. The nutritionist was there too.

    Dumping?

I haven't had any dumping. Ice cream gave me the runs and tasted awful but otherwise I've been okay. But I'm not eating sweets either.
  9. I was allowed salads at day 10. My surgeon's plan puts everyone on solid foods between day 10 and day 14 depending on how you tolerate them.

    Quest bars

I love the Quest bars and they are approved by my NUT because the net carbs are low as are the sugars. I like the brownie, chocolate chip cookie dough, smores, coconut cashew, chocolate Peanut Butter, peanut butter and jelly, vanilla almond crunch, and cinnamon roll. I didn't care for the lemon or the apple pie.
  12. Breakfast - either scrambled egg with ham, tomato, onion, bell pepper and cheese or a Quest Protein bar lunch - 4 to 5 oz of some kind of protein - chicken, pork, steak, ground beef, ham and cheese, roast beef and cheese and salad dinner - same as lunch but different protein and different veggies. I love making zucchini fries or I'll have green Beans. If I want a snack either a Quest Protein Bar or a cheese stick. I also like Quest protein chips with Laughing Cow cheese spread on them.
  13. Yes! I take melatonin about 8 or 8:30 in the evenings so I can relax to go to sleep. I have some prescription sleep aids if I need them as well.
  14. I wish I had known ahead of time I was going to have a drain in my side. The surgery itself and the incisions caused no pain but that drain was a giant pain in the butt. I wish I had known I was going to be totally exhausted for weeks. I didn't have that same reaction when I had my lap band surgery.
  15. I was a band to sleeve revision on June 1st. With all the Protein I have a full set of fingernails. I haven't had long nails in at least 8 years back when I used to get acrylic ones. Now that's a pleasant side effect no one told me about! Time for a mani/pedi.
  16. My surgeon makes all sleeve and bypass patients stay 2 nights. Lap band patients stay one night. You get nothing by mouth day one. Day 2 you have your leak test in the morning and then get ice and Water all day. Day 3 you have to be able to keep a Protein shake down that morning in order to go home.
  17. I revised from band to sleeve on June 1st and I not have any regrets about it at all. I do not miss that band one little bit. I didn't have any complications with the surgery and have been fine so far. I do not miss throwing up all the time. I do not miss my stomach hurting. I do not miss having that port in my body where it would slide around over a nerve and give me a sharp stabbing pain. My surgeon opted to make my sleeve a little larger than usual to line up with some scar tissue on the esophagus where it hits the stomach. He said the weight loss may be slower but I will have less of a risk of a leak.

To straw or not to straw

I was told not to drink from a straw. I do it anyway because it's the only way I'm drinking that Water. I hate water and adding anything to it does not make it any better. It has to be over a lot of crushed ice and I have to use a straw or forget it. I have not noticed any problems with the straw.

    Cottage cheese

I would find something else to eat. Cottage cheese is spoiled milk in my book and I can't stand it. I don't eat that or tuna which is cat food. Can you eat Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt instead? I really like the cherry flavored one.
  20. I just started week 8 and I'm right there with you. I honestly think just eating mostly Protein is doing it. Not getting enough vegetables and no fruit. I'm not convinced that living on protein and Water is a good thing for your body for this many weeks. I think I need more veggies. The first 4 weeks were terrible for being exhausted and I'm still tired all the time. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks to get bloodwork checked. I take my Vitamins every day too. Not helping with the tiredness.
  21. Yes I had lap band surgery in 2012 and didn't get decent results. They could never get me in the green zone with the fills. Starting in late 2014 I kept throwing everything up even liquids. In April they took out all the fill in my band and I had a revision to the sleeve on June 1st. Sorry to hear you had all those issues. I've been fortunate and haven't had any so far. I do not miss throwing up or that port sliding around across a nerve and giving me sharp stabbing pains.
  22. That schedule doesn't sound too bad. I had to have 2 appointments with the psychiatrist, 2 with the nutritionist. I had to have a bone density test, a mammogram, a pregnancy test, blood work, a chest X-ray, an EKG, an H-pylori test and most of them were separate appointments. It was crazy.

    Time off work

I work full time from home. I took the first week off as I was totally exhausted and slept a lot. I did not feel like sitting at my desk at a computer all day. The second week I worked 4 to 5 hours a day. By the third week I was back full time. But I still can't sit in my desk chair at my desk. I'm in week 8 and I'm working from the couch. My back hurts too much when I sit for hours in a chair.

    Honest Kids juice pouches

I was told by my NUT absolutely no juice of any kind so I wouldn't drink them. Too much concentrated sugar.

    Shoulder pain

I had really bad left shoulder pain after surgery too. The nurses told me it was trapped gas. I did a lot of massaging of the shoulder and used a heating pad and it finally went away.
