    Doctors on Long Island

Call Dr. Geiss' office and ask them to fax you the list of what is required for your insurance company to approve the surgery. His staff are very helpful.

    Whats up with pasta?

I heard that whole wheat pasta may be tolerable.

Who did you tell/talk to before

Fanny, even though I am banded, there is no restriction, so quite frankly I really am losing weight via a low carb/fat, high Protein diet and exercise. I do get hungry at times, but that's when my willpower (and lots of water) has been kicking in. Also, unlike some others with a band, I was never heavy my whole life. I just put on a lot of pounds the past few years and my friends and relatives have seen me thin, so my losing weight by diet/exercise doesn't seem so unusual to them. Everyone has to evaluate their own circumstances about discussing their private business.

Who did you tell/talk to before

Only my wife knows. As far as everyone else is concerned, "I'm on a strict diet." Everyone understands and doesn't question it.
  7. Even though I haven't been banded long and feel no restriction, there is no way I'm going to let this weight thing beat me any more. If I have to live on 600 calories and drink gallons of Water until my weight gets back down- so be it. My rant for the day. :frown:

    My first BP/Sliming

In a strange way I'm glad it happened. Before that, I never felt like I derived any benefit from the surgery. Now I know there's "safety net."

favorite foods you can no longer eat

If I somehow offended someone with picture, I apologize. I was just doing for giggles and right now, I couldn't even fathom eating a slice of pizza. The thought makes me queasy.

Sorry Shortgal. FWIW, I sitting here drinking a protein shake and not chowing down. :rolleyes2:

    No Restriction!!

All this is getting me hungry. I'm gonna have a protein shake (hey, it beats going down the block for a slice - or two - of NY pizza). :rolleyes2:

    No Restriction!!

I was banded on 01/10/08 and also have no restriction. When I was on liquids, I seemed to have been doing better than on solid foods. Now they want me to eat something like 3 oz of chicken, 2 oz of a carb and 2 oz of a vegetable for lunch/dinner. Well, at times during the day I seem to have to fight hunger, but I'm trying. Yesterday I had a Protein bar for breakfast, a Protein shake for a snack, a low cal/fat turkey pita sandwich for lunch (I don't know what it weighed but it was 185 calories & 1.5 grams of fat). dinner time I cheated a bit with about 4 oz of chicken breast, 4 oz of macaroni salad, and about 3 oz of steamed vegetables. I had a evening snack of about 1/2 cup of dry roasted soybean. It's more than I was told to eat, but it's dramatically less than I used to and it's about the best I can do until I get a fill.

    Law enforcement thread

I'm a FLEO. I got hurt a while back and put on a bunch of weight. I got banded (covered under FEP BC/BS) to get a jump start and lose enough weight to where I can start to at least jog again and pull the weight off.
  17. I'm in law enforcement and was recently banded. After 6 weeks post-op, I'll be considered "fit" for duty. A band should not impede you from entering law enforcement provided you meet height/weight requirements (which I did when I was hired - I gained a large amount of my excess weight after a nasty injury).
  18. I have yet to try the unjury unflavored powder, but I hear it is very good. Since I'm not a Breakfast person, I'd like to put a scoop in my Starbucks "Skinny" mocha. My questions are: Is the Unjury flavorless really flavorless? Will it ruin the taste of my $5 drink? Thanks!
  19. You should have reported him to hospital administrators. That type of can be expected from some uneducated jerk, but not a doctor! "House" is a TV show, not the real thing!
  20. I'm psyched! A grande mocha has only 130 calories and about 12 grams of Protein. Guess where I'm going tomorrow!
  21. I wonder if they have it in mocha.

    For Just Us Guys

Steve, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I do see it. I didn't do anything to prepare me for my pre-op diet other than to eat some things that I knew I wouldn't be eating for a long, long time (like steak, pizza , etc.) and I was fine throughout pre-op. If your doctor didn't give you any instructions, then enjoy your food (in moderation) before you are restricted from many of your favorite foods.

    Will pills get stuck?

I haven't had a fill, but I've been taking pills regularly, including 2 extra strength Tylenols at a time. No problems at all.

    For Just Us Guys

Well today is day six post op and I am feeling considerably better pain-wise. I drink my four protein drinks a day with 2 other full liquid meals and I am probably nauseous more than I am hungry. Yesterday I was really weak and couldn't even think too clearly. I don't know what caused that. But today is a whole another world. John and Sandy, thanks for words of encouragement and your tips. I bought a couple of cases of Fruit 2O water and I've been downing that the past several days. It tastes pretty good and allows me to get my water intake, although I tell you it's still hard to drink that much of anything! The good news? The weight/inches are falling off. I think I've lost about 6-8 pounds in the last 6 days.
