SIPSGrammy got a reaction from lealor in 2 Weeks and on Liquid Diet
I had my surgery 6/8. down 77 lbs. I feel great! Went from a size 24 down to a 20 (loosely). I still have my little cravings for things like ice cream, popcorn, chips...(it's funny, I never snacked like I do now) I find myself not being able to eat very much at all, and eating slowly I'm still working on. And when I don't eat slowly and take time to chew, my tummy tells me and so does my throat! I end up in the bathroom heaving and throwing up. When I eat anything that's too fatty, including too much sugar, my body tells me that too (very loose stools). This surgery is very restrictive as well as malabsorptive. I can only eat 1/2 cup of low carb veggie and maybe 1/2 cup of Protein (meat). Just to think before the surgery, I was eating an entire plate of food and looking for more!! I've learned so much about myself. I know the difference now about real hunger and just wanting to eat (emotional). Good luck to you both!

@@Mojo56 spoke with Dr Bruce and currently BCBSNC doesn't cover the SIPS procedure any longer....so it's plan B for me!!! Which is more research and then a decision on whether to have the revision or not if its not a DS related procedure which through research is successful after a RNY!!

Well so far I've enjoyed my brief encounters with Dr Bruce he is definitely a very calm matter of fact kind of guy, but with a sincere smile! Our next appointment will allow me more time to get a better relationship with him cause it will be more time for us to discuss my situation more fully!

Well @@SIPSGrammy I definitely understand cravings, and popcorn is my favorite snack of all times...lol
Yes please get on your vitamins, I know for me that will be a struggle as well so I am trying to get into a routine myself....cause I honestly hate taking meds...but I also don't like being sick....so that is my journey...and I need to embrace it now!!!
I will definitely keep you posted once I hear something...I have a couple more months to see Dr Bruce as part of my revision requirements per my first meeting....so IF it is approved I am thinking it will not be until the fourth qtr of this year.

@@Seabreeze06, I have to do the same from time to time, staying away from websites..it's good for the mind. I am doing well, although I have been cheating eating some foods, for some reason, I am craving, i.e., popcorn? ! Although, I cannot eat much of it, just enough to satisfy. Honestly, it's been hard trying to get in 90-100 grams of Protein a day! I can drink fluids okay, with small frequent sips, eating Soups, soft foods are okay as well. I tried eating breaded pork chop one night and I swear, I think it took hours before I actually digested it. I've noticed too, that one week, I won't lose a pound and the next week I lost 5 lbs! It's been crazy!! I also have not been diligent in taking my Vitamins.. a BIG NO NO. So, starting tomorrow, I've got my Vitamins all lined up after my morning Protein shake or yogurt.
I am very pleased thus far with my weight loss.. Surgery weight was 276 and today I'm 240 lbs!
Keep us posted on your surgery status! Looking forward to reading your posts!

Sorry for the delay in response, I felt like I was overloading on information I was reading every moment I had on different sites information so that when I meet with him again this month I would have some questions from a knowledge base instead of knowing nothing as I was prior to visiting the different WLS sites.
Yes, Barbara told me that REX was the hospital I was supposed to use for mine as well so I will find out more. I just finished my tests last week and found out that my stoma was stretched quite a bit and that is why my food intake has increased over the years. So after my last test on Friday, he stated he would have Barbara submit my paperwork to BCBSNC for approval. So we will see what he has in mind for me I know he still wants to do a DS version surgery for my revision so if that is not approved, I may have to switch to a provider who actually does the original DS, since he is known for the SIPS.
SO..... enough about me.... how are you doing post surgery....please share any information you are comfortable with about your journey thus far so I can again, add this information to my notes for Q/A on my next visit.

@@SIPSGrammy I am with BSNC as well so you got the SIPS approved through UHC, do you know of anyone recently who has gotten it approved through BCBS of NC? That is my concern like JenKapNC.

United is still covering the procedure. I was at Bariatric Specialists too with Dr. Enochs. He will do a DS with a 300 cm cc so that insurance will approve. I have NC BCBS. I'm still keeping my appt with Dr. Sudan to discuss common channel length and surgery risks, but NC BCBS won't approve SIPS for me, at least not right now.
As far as I know all the other insurance companies are still covering it.

Good luck! I started my pre-op diet on 6/6, the doctor then moved my DS op up to 6/11. 427lbs, down to 400, then gained 14 in the hospital. Now 6/29 and down to 377. Definitely seems like it was worth it to this point.

Hi SIPSGrammy, how cool! I'm doing well. Just trying to get acquainted with my new tummy. I also have been dealing with the poopies like no one's business lol! Hopefully things will change once we start on food with more substance. My post-op is Thursday. I had a few issues transitioning from Clear Liquids to full liquids during the first week but was able to move forward a few days later. This is a journey indeed but I know it will all be worth it in the end Please keep me posted on your progress!

Thank you, SIPS stands for Stomach Intestines Pyloric Sparing. It's pretty much the VSG plus the bypassing of a little less than half of the small intestine. The point where the small intestine is to be connected to the pyloric valve is brought up in a loop. It is also called the Loop DS

I am 49 years old and scheduled to have SIPS on June 30. I know many people who have had RNY with great success. I have chosen SIPS due to my need for NSAIDS and Prednisone for management of degenerative arthritis. I am excited and nervous as well. I am terrified that I will not wake up from my surgery. That being said I have confidence in my surgeon. These forums have been an invaluable tool in preparing for my surgery. Please keep posting!

@@nueva919 I had SIPS surgery on the 8th as well by Dr. Jon Bruce! How are you doing? I'm doing well, with the exception of passing gas and the poopies. First post-op appt is Tuesday June 23rd. Hope I can start on pureed food. OH and the head hunger has been messing with me too... ups and downs with that as well. Good Luck to you!
