    Protein powder

I love Oh Yeah Vanilla Creme Powder. I mix it with different flavors of sugar free Fat Free Jello pudding mix to change it up daily so it doesn't get boring. I drink one every day for Breakfast and look forward to it!!

    3 month Post-Op checkup

Picture with Randy Fenoli was taken on April 25 2015, the day after my initial consultation with the surgeon. Picture with the football player was taken yesterday (3 months after surgery) after losing 49 pounds

    Timeline

I had my initial consultation on April 24, no waiting period for my insurance. Surgery date was June 22
  5. I had the VSG surgery on 6/22 and only told a few people. There's a gal that I've known my entire life, we've referred to each other as "best friends" for as long as I can remember.... but she wasn't one of the people that I shared the secret with, now I know why. I had dinner with her last night. She lives a couple of hours away, so we only see each other 3-4 times a year. The last time I saw her was in March, I was 214 pounds and had long hair. FYI, I haven't weighed under 205 in 6 years. Last night, I walked in (feeling very proud of my almost 40 pound weight loss.....and I also cut my hair into a short, sassy style. I didn't know right away if I would share the secret with her, was going to play it by ear) and her immediate reaction was all about the hair. For 30 minutes, all she talked about was how cute my hair looked. She couldn't understand why I wasn't going to drink with her, she ordered a beer and I drank Water. That conversation went on for a while.....I just told her I didn't want a glass. Then she put a piece of bread on my plate. I promptly removed it. I asked the waiter if I could have something special made in the kitchen, he said YES. She said "have you started ANOTHER diet"? She wouldn't let it go..... so I told her. I also told her that I've lost almost 40 pounds, which she hadn't noticed. She said "you look just like you did before". Well that isn't what I want to hear.....She couldn't believe that I used to weigh 214, said it was impossible. Nope, it's not impossible, it's the TRUTH. She was hurt that I hadn't included her earlier in the secret, but I told her that you never know how people will react..... and I never expected her reaction either. So besides not noticing that I've lost 40 pounds, and arguing with me that I didn't weigh that much to begin with, I get home and find this email from her: OK, the more i thought about your weight, on the way home, I haven't seen you since the hockey game and you looked the same to me...I know it has to suck for anyone not to notice that much weight loss AND and a new haircut!!!! Your hair was at least 30 lbs...So proud of you to go thru that and I will help you however i can... So now my haircut caused my weight loss? I know she loves me and didn't mean for things to come out the way they did. But this has really set me back. I've worked very hard and it's breaking my heart.
  6. I weigh daily...... always have and always will. One of my neighbors had the same surgery and she doesn't weigh herself, has no idea how much she has lost, I can't imagine! I can tell you down to the 1/10 of an pound how much I weigh every day! I'm almost 9 weeks out and (luckily) I haven't had any gain or stall..... I've weighed the same amount exactly 2 days in a row, but never had anything stall longer than that. I'm lucky

    Weight Question

They weighed me in the office only, before one of my required surgeon visits....probably a month before the surgery date. Once I hit the 35 BMI, he told me to refuse to be weighed again in the office again until after surgery. So the last weigh-in showed me being 214.8.....I was Wearing street clothes. I just wore something that wasn't noticeable.....

    Weight Question

I didn't weigh enough (BMI was 34) on my first visit, but had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and pre-diabetic. The surgeon told me to hit every buffet in town and come back in 2 weeks. I needed to gain 10-12 pounds to get to 35 BMI.....so I put some "Strap weights " in my bra and went back in.....He weighed me again and I qualified. Be creative

    Freaking Out...

It is completely normal!! You should be anxious before any life-changing decision! A month from now it will just be a distant memory and you will be on your journey to a new life!

Shot down by my "best" friend

Thanks for your validation @VSGAnn2014.... Although the email had some sweet points, the 30 pounds of hair comment is all I remember. Nope, I worked hard and lost 35 pounds of FAT and the hair should be just a small sidenote.

Guess from the responses here, I overreacted. Thanks for the feedback

    Calcium

I use Calcet Calcium chocolate...... bought on BariatricChoice.com for $13.99. I think they taste good. I am currently taking Celebrate Orange Multivitamin but they taste nasty. I found online a multivitamin patch on PatchMD.com and my NUT approved it, as long as I add in 400mg of Folic Acid. I've ordered that and will start using it when the Celebrate runs out

After my initial visit with the surgeon, I went to the Southern Women's Show and met Randy Fenoli from "Say Yes to the Dress". Figured it would be a good 'BEFORE" pic

This is a headshot taken at 7 weeks post surgery
  15. I'm off of BP meds, Cholesterol meds, Gluscosomine, Fiber, and all the other crap I was taking daily just to "get by". I also realized that I must have had a food allergy of some type, I used to sneeze all day long. Haven't sneezed once since starting my pre-op diet

    Clothes shopping..... NO FUN.

I'm 7 weeks out as of today...... Starting BMI was 35, so my surgeon and everyone else said I would lose slowly. I've lost 35 pounds as of this week and I'm thrilled. So far, no one except the few I told that I was having WLS had commented on my progress. Went to a party this weekend with 40 people that only see me a couple of times a year, so I thought "This will be the day that jaws drop". Nope, not one human being said anything to me. I even cut 8 inches off my hair, a completely new "do" and no one mentioned it. No one. I'm trying not to let it bother me, but it does
  17. I'm down 35 pounds (Yippeeeee) as of today, and it's time to start getting smaller sizes. Another YIPPEE, right? Not so much. I've been shopping at every mall in the area and can't seem to find anything that looks good on me. I would think this would be the "fun" part, but it's really been a depressing experience. I'm not looking for an entire new wardrobe, just a few things that show off my weight loss and make me feel great..... I still see old, fat Natalie in the mirror..... Considering I'm halfway to my goal (I had a low BMI to start), I should be happier with the way I look, right? And it also doesn't help that not one person (except the few that knew I had surgery) have noticed.

    Gallbladder and weight loss

I had mine out at the same time I had the VSG surgery (2 for 1 special, LOL). I've lost 35.2 pounds in 6 weeks. I know people that have had just their gall bladder removed and lost weight!
  19. I'm right there with you! This has been so easy that I almost feel like I'm missing something. I started with a low BMI, so they said to expect a slower weight loss. I'm 6 weeks out and am down almost 35 pounds. I've never lost weight that fast, even in my 20's. Not one bit of pain, no weight-loss plateaus, no vomiting, no discomfort. I feel like the energizer bunny..... I keep going, and going and going. We are very lucky!!!

    LINE DANCING?

My surgeon told me to do NOTHING that uses core muscles for 6 weeks post-op. I think line dancing would be okay, but certainly not salsa dancing.... the twisting of the core wouldn't be good. He even considered telling me not to ride my stationary bike because it uses core muscles to keep me upright. He said the incisions may be healed but the insides aren't. Be careful
  21. One of my best friends, who actually went with me to the hospital and was my "responsible person" and biggest supporter just said something the other day that really hurt, down to the core. There are only 6 people that know I had WLS, so it's a big secret. I had surgery 6/22 (started with a low BMI so I thought I would have a slow weight loss journey), and I've lost 34.2 in 6 weeks. I think that's pretty darned good! Also, I decided to cut my hair and have a sassy "do", to start this new chapter in my life. We went to dinner......I was rockin' a great dress (and looked fabulously thin). she didn't mention the haircut until 10 minutes into the dinner or the weight loss.....then she said "I'm glad your weight loss is going slowly. If the weight was coming off quickly and in addition to the short haircut, people would think you have cancer or something". WHAT??????????? I quickly told her that NEVER in my entire life, even in my 20s, was I able to lose 34 pounds this fast. I'm halfway to my goal, but obviously it's not noticeable.

    I'm Overweight!

Tomorrow is my 6 week Surgiversary and I'm officially OVERWEIGHT! No longer in the OBESE category! Victory #1 for me!

    Dumb question:

My NUT said that we should never use a straw, for the rest of our lives. But in the first couple of weeks after surgery, I wasn't able to get in all my fluids by sipping. So I decided to give it a try and I've had ZERO gas or belching and I use the straw now every day. Now I'm getting fully hydrated and no side effects. It's the only rule I break

    First restaurant meal?

My first restaurant meal out was at about the 4 week mark.... So I was on soft foods. so I got Pulled Pork. Everyone else at the table cleaned their plate in about 10 minutes and i was picking at this mound of pork for 30 min and only ate 1/10 of it..... took the rest home. I ended up throwing out most of it, because I could only eat a few bites a day! Before surgery, I could have devoured the entire plate and wanted more............
  25. Mine are going Bye-Bye as well..... I'm one of the lucky few that still have the boobs of a 20 year old, until I had gastric sleeve. Now they're pointing south.......
