    How to count calories

Journaling is not my favorite thing to do but do it I must, I guess. I am not talking about nibbling though, I am talking about the meal itself. I have a meal reminder set on my phone that alarms every 3 hrs for meals and snack. So I may put 2 teaspoons of tuna and a teaspoon of cottage cheese on my plate but only get half of that in. Your right I am going to have to make a chart until I can get a handle on the portion sizes. Thanks for you ideas.

    How to count calories

That is exactly what I do, measure it by teaspoons. I just never really thought about doing the math on equivalents. Guess I need to break out my kitchen conversion chart. Sometimes it just helps to hear it from someone else.

    Am i kidding myself?

I am 48 and as of today am 5 weeks post op and I can tell you that when my alarm goes off at 5:30am I only hit the snooze once. Prior to surgery I could roll myself out of bed until 9:00 even though I have to be at work by 10. By the time I got home from work at 5:30 I needed a nap. Now I am actually a part of the evening activities at my house. I am only hopibg it gets better as more weight falls off. You will feel better and by keeping a healthy positive attitude you will feel better faster. Good luck to all of us midlifers!
  4. I felt the same way and still do actually, Did I really have 85% of my stomach removed? I haven't had any nauseousness at all, nor have I pushed the envelope and the only pain I had was from the allergic reaction to the dermabond adhesive. I am 5 weeks post op today I feel like I am loosing weight slower then alot of others when I see there results posted in here, maybe because I started at a lower BMI, but who knows it wasn't that much lower I don't think. On the day of surgery I weighed 216 and as of Monday I weighed 192. If it were not for the fact that a couple bites fill me up or drinking liquids fill me up I wouldn't believe I've even had weightloss surgery. I keep waiting for all he!! to break loose.

    Anyone from Virginia?

I am from virginia beach although I am having my surgery in Newport News with dr terracina he is an amazing dr. My surgery is scheduled for October 27 That entire practice is awesome. I had my 4 week check up yesterday and I have to tell you they make me feel so comfortable and a real person, not just a number. You will love them.
  8. Looking to see if there are others near me and if they go to support meetings and where?
  9. Awesome thanks. Leigh is only about 10 min from me so that is great
  10. Thank you. Do you know if Sentara has them at any location other than Harbour View? I will call someone this week to find out, everything I see online refers to HV and that's pretty far to go as well.

    Inpatient or Outpatient

It seems as though every situation is different and the Dr. and nursing staff rule on the side of caution. That is very comforting for those of you who are pending surgery. If you have confidence in the surgeon you choose I would trust that he would make the right decision on when to discharge you. They do this procedure so often that I would assume they recogonize any anomaly quickly and assess the need for further hospital observation.
  13. Yeah! There are others by me. I live in Norfolk but had my surgery in Newport News with Dr. Terracina. I was hoping to find meetings on the southside because traffic to the Peninsula is so bad and it's really to far to go just for an hr meeting. I am 3 weeks post op and so far so good not issues so far. I have lost 18.2 lbs so far. I am very excited to be able to chat with others in my area!
  14. As populated as the Hampton Roads Virginia area is I am surprised that there is no one on here from the area????
  15. I am 3 weeks post op and for me the popsicles were my favorite because the chewing helped my head hunger. In the last week I have finally figured out the difference between head hunger and hunger. When I started to think I was hungry I would drink a few sips of the protein drink and if my hunger goes away I know. Constantly drinking water makes all the difference in the world. Lastly, my favorite tool is the Meal Reminder app. I am on soft/pureed food and to supposed to eat 5-6 times a day 2 hrs apart. So when the alarms sound I eat and in between I drink my water or whatever. Two of the meals are protein drinks.
  16. Have you tried popsicles or jello Did you have a VSG or a bypass

    Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

I have my new weight it's 200.2 I can't wait to be under the 200 mark! I am 18 days post op
  18. This is going to be a petty post let me say it right up front…… . I am still less then a wk past my surgery and I wanted to try the fat free Creamsicle pops. Still not released to drive. Sooooo the hubby has me order a pizza and wings for him and the son. Again, no problem I am not the least bit hungry for that crap yet anyway. Wait for it…… he just went to bad and never went to Foodlion for my da$n Creamsicles. I may not even speak to him again until next week when I need a ride for my followup with the Surgeon!
  19. I'm in the hospital as we speak and my surgery was 9/4. It's the nausea, vomiting and diarrhea that are killing me. I can't do the zolfran under the tongue because it makes me nauseous. They gave me the pills to cut and swallow but I can hardly keep down the water to take that. I'm waiting to be transferred back to the hospital where I had my surgery, Cedar Sinai. Didn't expect to be in the hospital 3-4 times within the first 3 weeks. This has been psychologically draining but I'm trying to maintain a positive attitude as much as I can. Man, hope you guys feel better soon. It sucks to be so excited about a life change and then be brought down with setbacks. May I ask when the complications started? I keep thinking that this has been way too easy so far because other then being tired and an allergy to the degraderm sp? adhesive, I have had no issues. I will be 2 weeks post op on Thursday.

  22. Well did she give you a reason to call her a pig? If so and you were as aggravated at her as I was at my husband you would have got the same reception that I would have. Right… Husband or Wife, being inconsiderate crosses all gender dude just sayin… .Unfortunately, I have read posts where a few women become quite militant if a man says something negative about their own wife or girlfriend.Granted if the man has a wife AND a girlfriend at the same time, that would be a justifyable response. I understand that but I just made an offhanded comment that was more about inconsiderate people and this example just happened to involve my husband. I for one, am never going to take a side based on gender. I am a Capricorn and an ESTJ personality so to me right is right wrong is wrong and "feelings" were ment to be a song. So let me apologize upfront to anyone that I offend I don't mean to offend, it just is what it is.
