  1. I'm loving losing almost 1 lb a day. I too know it will slow down but isn't it great while it lasts! I lost 32 lbs pre-surgery and another 10 in the 12 days since surgery. So much fun to see what fits me every day. I go back to work tomorrow and will be wearing clothes that I haven't fit into in years. Yeah!!!!

    Looking for June/July buddies

MP104- Of course you are nervous. You are having surgery and it is normal to be nervous, I was very nervous too. That said, it went so much easier that I had anticipated and now only 11 days post surgery I feel great (other than soreness when I do my daily injection -- only 3 more days of those.) I wish you the best. Focus how great you will feel a few days after the surgery and how fantastic you will look a few months later! I wish you the best!

    June 15 surgery date

Hi Tammy I'm up late since I'm not allowed to take my melatonin yet and that is what usually helps me sleep.I'm not jungry either but just keep sipping anyway. For me it got easier after a few days. I found that it really helped to change my Protein shakes after a few days since they were getting boring. My powders are from unjury and I loved the chicken soup at first but a few days after surgery they tasted too salty and I think contributed to Water retention. My first few days home I mixed Unjury chocolate with gatorade (to get in protein and carbs at once.) The last few days I have had lots of lactose free fat free milk mixed with decaf and Protein powder (vanilla, chocolate or unflavored.) I usually drink muscle milk for 1 meal a day. The banana creme is delicious but only for this phase of diet since it is higher in calories and fat. We take in so few calories right now that it fits in easier. I really like the Swiss Miss Diet hot chocolate -- you can add the ff lactose free milk to get more carbs in. And I just ordered lots of flavored syrups (they even have Peanut Butter powder to try once my nutritionist says it okay. My stepdaughter bought me The Bariatric Foodie Guide to Perfect Protein Shakes and I'm looking forward to tasting the recipes once my syrups arrive. Gget in those fluids -- I just talked to someone who needed 2 infusions since she wasn't drinking enough and that was a good reminder to keep sipping all day long. You might try SF Jello or a popsicle for a change of pace. Wishing you the best. You will probably feel much better in 2 or 3 more days. This is so worth it!

    Looking for June/July buddies

I was sleeved June 10. Loving it! So much easier than I expected. Very little pain and no nausea. Was hard to get in and out of bed at first (those sore stomach muscles but that went away yesterday. Other than a little soresness from my daily injections, I feel great. The post surgery Water gain was frustrating but now that it is gone I've lost an additional 7 lbs bring in my total weight loss to 39 pounds so far. I'm enjoying the Protein shakes and I'm never hungry. Every day I find clothes in my closet that are too large -- and clothes that I had saved from many years ago that now fit me. This is fun! So, I hope those of you about to be sleeved also have a great experience! Anjahaga -- post on here a lot and that might help you feel less alone. Wanted to share a fun thing I found -- If you go to www.newlifestylediet.com you can put in your start weight and your goal weight and get a virtual picture showing how your body looks at start and end place of this journey. I'm keeping mine where I can see it each day to provide extra motivation. (You can also use the site to track your weight. You can ignore their diet and products.)

Thank you. This is all great information. I'm 9 days post surgery and loving it already. Down almost 40 pounds if I include the 32 I lost prior to surgery. I;ve been trying out new shakes. One thing different from your post -- I was never put on Clear liquids only. I've been using muscle milk, Umjury and putting lactose and fat free milk in my shakes from the start. Everything else fits with what my surgeon told me and you provided even more information. Thank you so much.
  7. My surgeons plan includes all liquids for 3 weeks post surgery and then only very soft food (like scrambled eggs or soft fish) 1 teaspoon at a time for another 3 weeks. You need to protect your stomach as it heals. My hardest days (but still a lot easier than I expected) were 3 & 4 and then it got much better. I am now on day 8 and have almost no pain -- just when I try to sit up after being in bed or for a moment in time on occasion. No pain meds needed at all. I hope you feel better soon. Please follow surgeons rules and don't put solids into your body this soon. I wonder if some of the pain might be from too much in your tiny stomach. Go slowly -- no more than 1 oz every 15 minutes. And no lifting anything over 5 lbs. We all need to give our bodies time to heal --

    Any Regrets?

Wow! That was so wonderful to read. You have really turned your life around in just a 5.5 month period of time. So impressive. I love all the things you are doing and can really feel your determination jumping off the page. am thrilled for you! Keep it up. This is amazing and inspiring (I am only 8 days post surgery.)
  9. Did you ask doc for prescription for nausea meds. They have the kind that dissolve under your tongue. I haven't needed them but the doc had said to call immediately if I got nauseous so they could call int he prescription.Maybe that would help you. Glad the pain isn't bad.

    Loss first month

I am now 1 week post surgery and I am down 3.8 lbs (plus down 32 prior to surgery.) I think I'm still retaining Water so hoping for a bigger loss next week,. Regardless, I am loving fitting into smaller sizes. My pace is slow but this is still awesome!

Haybavet -I have no advice for stopping the hiccups but holding a pillow against your stomach when you hiccup might help the pain. Ouch! Bigfatgoodbye- I can't imagine being home so soon. I wish you the best and hope the pain continues to lessen. Have you tried unjury or Muscle Milk?I really like the Unjury Protein chicken Soup and i like the chocolate mixed with strawberry gatorade (for carbs.) Muscle Milk light chocolate is good. The banana creme is great but has more ft and calories so it is only for this phase of the program when intake is so limited that the extra calories are fine.

    On the other side now

Hi Jess9395. I've been dreading sagging arms so am very interested in hearing how your lift goes. Will there be scars? I once had a tummy tuck and that hurt a lot afterwards when it was so tight but it did help (until I gained back weight -- this was before WLS.) I bet yuo are going to look totally awesome! Can I ask how old you are? My skin usd to be pretty elastic but I'm now 65 and I just don't think it will tighten up on it own anymore. I see a jowl/neck lift in my future.

I am now ready to join the losers club!!!! Maggie and kclem - thinking of you and looking forward to your return.
  14. Busymom - How long ago was your surgery? 1-2 lbs a day is fantastic!

    Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

I had to do the presurgery diet, meet with a nutritionist, take a 1 hour class, get a psych eval (do not spend tons of money on this, they really just need a brief letter saying you are realistic about the surgery; Contact me if you need more info before doing this, A comprehensive eval is not needed.) I had to attend 2 exercise classes and 3 or 4 doc appointments. And i needed to write a letter saying why I wanted the surgery (impact weight has had on me.) Nothing was difficult and it all was pretty quick. I wanted to time it so that I would be back on solid soft food (fish) prior to my August family vacation and it worked out perfectly. The best part is that you lose lots of weight following the presurgery diet. The goal of the diet is to shrink your liver to make the surgery easier but a nice side effect is great weight loss and you get used to Protein shakes. i lost 32 lbs in 2.5 months and that included taking a 10 day cruise where I usually would have gained 10 lbs! You will love it!
  16. i can't get over how much several of you have lost so soon after surgery. Was there a particular day where you suddenly started seeing the change? I'm on day 5 and still have a little gain from the surgery Fluid (started 10 up and lost most of it but I'm still above my starting weight.) When did you see the scale shift and these huge losses show up? 20 -- 23 lbs down in 9 days is mind boggling! Would be a lot of fun to wake up 4 days from now and discover that I lost another size

Good for you! My understanding is that with most insurance it takes 3 months pre-surgery pre p. Medicare required less but it still was about 2.5 months from my first appointment before I had the surgery. So,sounds like you will be ready for fall. By then you will be an expert!

Mamsinator- You are doing great. Plateaus are frustrating but expected after losing so much so quickly. Your body needs time to adjust. You lost 25 lbs in a month! That is awesome. Just keep to the program and you will start losing again. What often worked for me with plateaus was to eat a little more for 1 or 2 days (no more) to stimulate my body and then when I went back down my body would lose again. But that was before surgery so not sure how that would work now.

Kensingtonwalk Didn't realize you haven't had it yet. Do you have a date or are you earlier in the process? There is a lot to do prior to surgery. I lost 32 lbs before my surgery. It was so much fun getting rid of large sizes and bringing smaller sizes up from the basement where they had been in storage. Also did some fun thrift store and ebay shopping -- figured each size might only fit for a month so not willing to spend a lot on new clothes yet. Where are you in the process?

Oh - I had that too. They used the same openings to do my sleeve. With gallbladder I was in hospital for 23 hours. Came home and felt great the next day so drove somewhere 20 minutes from my home. That was a big mistake! i got there and did not think I would make it back home. Lesson learned!

Two weeks total out of the office although I'll do paperwork and online things at home. I'm thinking of taking a required continuing education class online. I never seem to have time to do it when I'm working so this seems like a great opportunity and it will keep me from doing more physical things around the house. . Sitting at my home computer is actually the most comfortable place for me to be right now. But no in office work or appointments for 2 weeks. What is a lap chole? Have you been walking? I'm taking it very slow on the treadmill. If i do above 1.7 miles an hour or do more than 1/4 mile at a time my stomach hurts so I'm limiting myself to 1/4 mile and trying to build up to doing that 4x a day.

Kensington Walk - That sounds like a great goal. I'm just slightly taller and my goal is 140 (although I will be so happy if I get to 160. Anything below that is, dare I say, icing on the cake!) Had my first postsurgery follow up appointment today and all is well. I did decide to take an additional week off of work rather than push to get back after just one week. My job is sedentary but I need to be alert and focused and just did not think I would be up to it by Wednesday when I initially said I would be back. I'm dropping by the office for 15 minutes to pick up some paperwork that I can do at home and that is it. Feeling proud of myself for being self nurturing and taking it slow.
  23. That is amazing! Congratulations. Looking forward to seeing the 30 days out pics!
