MsTodd reacted to livvsmum in I Was Told I Look Like I Have AIDS Today..... :-/
I have no idea how it came up....let me think. I think I was talking about Spanx with a friend (which I am currently wearing because of recovering from a tummy tuck) and another acquaintance overheard and said "why do you have to wear spanx??? you're already too skinny". I said something like, "oh it holds everything in place..haha" trying to be light-hearted. Then she told me that I looked like I had AIDS and that I needed to stop losing weight and I needed to gain some back. This is also something (not that specifically, but the same idea) that my mom says every time she visits. She'll say something like, "you look sick. you looked better before."
Let's focus on the conversation though. There is so much wrong with it. So much. I will attach my most recent picture so you can see that I don't really look awful.....and/or sickly.....
    1. First of all, I don't like the derogatory nature of the comment towards anyone who is an AIDS patient. Not cool.
    2. I get that when you knew someone when they were obese, and now you see them skinny, it takes some adjusting and sometimes it takes a while for you to think they look "normal" in their new body....but.... WHY do people think it's ok to comment on my weight?????
    3. I am within a healthy weight range. My doctor is not concerned. My surgeon is not concerned. My therapist is not concerned.
    4. Can we revisit #2?
    5. You can fill in the blank....there's gotta be something else wrong with this.
It doesn't bother me really. I don't let people's comments effect my emotional well-being anymore. I just thought it was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. And I am STUNNED at the forwardness of some people. And I am stunned at the fact that other people who are just acquaintances not even close friends, feel the freedom to comment on my weight at will.
PSA........don't share your comments on people's weight or appearance unless they start it.

So, first of all, 10 lbs in two weeks isn't that shabby, that's 5 lbs/wk, 20 lbs/month etc. I kind of get your surgeon's concern, if you're breaking the rules this soon, then what about 6 months from now. But, you are still recovering from surgery, there's internal swelling and the effects from surgery, so he's jumping the gun and should be more encouraging as you begin this transition. So, objectively, has he been supportive, neutral, or critical? Surround yourself with a healthy and considerate support system and BP is a good start. Just don't forget, this isn't a magic pill, it's going to be hard work, its going to take all the determination you've got and you'll have to learn to live a healthy new lifestyle. The sleeve is all yours now, learn to use it, it can be your best friend or your worst enemy, get to know one another and learn to listen to it and you'll be in a much better place a year from now.

MsTodd got a reaction from Dysruption in 2 week follow up appointment-feeling low
@@Dysruption thank you for the reality check-I realize it's what I need. I will start tracking my food. I do have a My Fitness Pal account-I will start using it. My activity level has been inconsistent so I will make that change too. 30 continual minutes a day or more.
Time to get serious and stop the 'recovery' stage.
    Thanks everyone!

@@MsTodd I'm sorry to hear that you're having a tough time with your surgeon. I can't say that I have been in your shoes, but let's start at the heart of the issue, your food intake. Are you monitoring everything through a food tracker like My Fitness Pal? If not, I would extremely suggest you do so. Lay out your schedule for what you're going to eat throughout the day and don't deviate from it. Measure your portions out in small containers and never eat outside of a bigger dish. You have to remember that your sleeve is just a tool and unless you use it the right way, the results will not be as good as you would have hoped. What is your calorie intake each day on average? What is the ratio of Protein:Carbs:Fat? These are essential to monitoring if you are going to turn it around.
What about your activity level? Are you walking 30 continual minutes each day at least once per day? I don't mean to pry and ask too many questions, but let's examine the facts and by process of elimination you can find the problem areas that need to be worked on. You don't have to improve on all areas overnight, I know how hard that can be, but take it one day at a time. Find yourself a goal and achieve it, even if it's a small goal. That way you can build upon that small goal and soon you'll find yourself in a good behavior pattern. I wish you the best!

MsTodd got a reaction from Dysruption in 2 week follow up appointment-feeling low
I just had my 2 week follow up appointment with the surgeon. I've lost 10 lbs since my surgery. He seemed not quite please with that weight loss. I have been eating more than the 1/4 cup modified liquid per meal that is recommended. I've been eating 1/2 cup or slightly more (5 ozs) per meal. And the occasional snack.
The surgeon says that if I am stretching the rules now, I will continue to do so and probably head towards failing overall. He didn't say it so bluntly, but I understood what he meant.
I'm shocked and depressed that I am failing so soon after my surgery. Anyone else been in my shoes? How did you turn it around?

I know it! I have the same feeling but instead of Apple murder I have decided to start journaling... It seems to help sometimes! And I can write all the things that I think I my head down instead of saying them to my poor family!
I can see now that there will be good days and bad days! But it will be totally worth it! I am down 15 pounds since surgery on June 1!

I am in he same boat!! Sleeved June 1 and yesterday I was very upset! There has been this yummy Apple on our counter all week that just keeps looking at me! Well no more I said and cut that thing up and put it in the trash!! When my husband got home he saw the aftermath and asked why I committed Apple murder. Because screw that Apple, it kept starting at me like you can't eat me so I thought Apple murder was the perfect rebuttal!!
I might be going crazy but it was a little therapeutic! And we both had a good laugh!!!

MsTodd reacted to Stevehud in A funny thing happened this morning.
Hello all, so a funny thing happened this morning. Last weekend i purchased some new shorts for the warmer weather. Well im now in a men's Large so i grabbed some, and bought them. However i made the mistake of just looking at the hanger not the tag on the shorts. so one pair i bought was the wrong size. Now this morning I picked up the shorts, not knowing they were the wrong size and i remarked to my wife how surprised i was at how small these shorts looked in my hands. So i ripped the tags off and then realized the tag inside said XL not L. so i said to my wife, "oh I bought the wrong size dang it." so she picks up the tags i ripped off and said, "yea you really got it wrong, these are a BOYS XL. I laughed and just for the heck of it I tried them on.
They fit! and I am wearing them as I type. lol
Seriously? a boys XL? this is wonderful, these little surprises really help to hit home how well you can do with this surgery and will all the help and support of freinds , family and especilly the help and support of all you Bariatric pal people.
    So have a great day!
