  1. I was 21 when I had my surgery and a lot of people questioned whether I was sure I wanted it. I had to go through the 6 month process for my insurance and that gave me a lot of time to think about what the rules and different life changes I was going to have to make. Especially with friends and stuff because we are at the age where we hang out with friends, go out for drinks, etc and all that has changed. I had lapband June 2, 2015 and I've lost 45 lbs. I do not regret my decision at all because going into it I knew that it was best for me at that time and I know that I will come out healthier and will be a better "me". Good luck and feel free to message me if you have any questions or just need someone to talk to!

  2. Hey! I am from Albertville too and used Dr. Groves. I had lap-band surgery but I am not disappointed in my decision to use him. He has been great and always willing to talk to you if you have questions. I had lap-band June 2nd. I also have BCBS and had to go through the 6 month diet. It seemed like it would take me forever but when I hit month 3 it flew by. I don't regret having this surgery at all, I was lucky enough to have people who support me and my mom actually had lap-band a few years ago. I also have PCOS and actually didn't even have a period for a whole year. We seem to have a lot of health issues in common. Let me know if you have any questions and I would love to become friends and kinda have each other to talk to!! :)

  3. I know no one as posted in here for a while but I am 24 and am two weeks post op. How is everyone coping with their band ?

Hey! Things are going good for me. I am 4 months post op and I've lost about 30 lbs. I have had 3 fills so far. I'm enjoying life with the band. It has definitely changed my life so far....of course the weight isn't coming off as quickly as I want but the inches are. I knew it wouldn't be an overnight change though. This last full I'm feeling a lot more restriction. How are you feeling??

  4. @@hbugg This was something I was debating when wanting to get back into dating. I think it would be great to find someone who is going through the same thing as I am. I am on one dating site but I haven't been active on it because I don't really know how I would talk about WLS.

It is hard to talk about WLS. I just don't really know how to bring it up in a conversation.

  5. I had a fitbit and loved it! I lost it but plan on getting another one. It motivated me for sure to move more. I haven't had my surgery yet so I'm interested in hearing from those who have.

Do you use it to track your food?

I plan on it. I have it linked to My Fitness Pal app so it pulls my calories from there. I just got it tonight so I'm excited to start using it. I bought the Fitbit Flex.

  6. So I just got me a fitbit and am curious about if people that have had WLS enjoy using it. I'm hoping it will be encouragement to excersie more. Let me know your comments about it and if you want send me your email and I'll add you to my friends list.

  7. Hey everyone! I was banded on June 2nd. So far I've lost 22 lbs. I received my first fill July 10th and go for my second one Aug. 7th. I am from Alabama and I'm 21. Looking for someone around my age (20-30) to communicate with daily and just someone to keep me accountable and who knows what I'm going through. Thanks!

  8. For me, I was only on liquids 1 week and now I started mushy. They told me if I feel ok I can start solids after another week. The only trade off I guess was I did 3 weeks of liquids pre op.

Oh okay! I only did a 10 day pre-op diet and it was high protein-low carb

  9. How long did it take you before you tried new foods that my program says to avoid like beef.

I tried beef this past weekend. It was okay I just really had to take my time eating it. I didn't really start having solid foods till last week. I was on liquid 2 weeks mushy 1 week and then week 4 I could start solid foods.

  10. Hi guys. I had my surgery last week, and today I was allowed to start eating mushy food. You guys can ask me any questions.

I was so excited when I got to eat mushy food. I am exactly 1 month post op and feel great! I can eat pretty much anything and will have my first fill next Friday. Good luck!

  11. My surgery is booked for July 25th partly excited of the thought of losing weight and becoming almost unrecognisable! Seeing my body change is defiantly motivation

Glad your doing well! Lucky you to be able to eat anything lets hope I've the same luck

Let me know how your surgery goes!!

  12. Hey! How are you doing? I'm going to get banded In a couple of weeks and I'm petrified lol

Stay focused this is the beginning of a long but rewarding journey

I'm doing really good. Next Thursday will be 1 month post-op. When I weighed in at my post-op check up I had lost 21 lbs. I am schedule to get my first fill July 10th. I already can tell a huge difference in my body. I feel so much better! I can eat pretty much anything right now. I am definitely ready for a fill though. Good luck and keep me posted. After surgery make sure to walk as soon as you feel like it. That will help with the leftover gas that is in your body from where they blow you up. Keep me posted on how you do. It helps to have people to talk to that know what you are going through. Good luck!! :)

  13. I was banded on June 2nd and so far I've lost 21 lbs and I can already see a huge improvement in my confidence and I'm ready to start dating again. Before I had surgery I was very insecure and wanted to date but figured most guys wouldn't want to date me. It would be nice to have someone to talk to who has also had WLS because that gives us something to connect with. Any advice on dating after WLS or any guys that are single who are looking for the same thing please reply :)

  14. I was banded June 2 so I know exactly how both of you are feeling as I was recently there. It took almost a week for the gas pains in my shoulders go away and that was the worst part for me. It was extremely uncomfortable to lay down or do anything really. Also try to walk as much as possible, even if it does hurt it is the best thing you can do! I promise things get better. Tuesday will be 2 weeks for me and I feel great!

  15. I've noticed not a lot have comment in this group in a while but just thought I'd see if anyone would reply. I'm 21 and was banded on June 2. So far I've done really well except for the terrible gas pain in my left shoulder.

Just looking to talk to other banders around my age for support. I haven't told a lot of people that I had it so it's hard not having a lot of people to talk to. Any advice or suggestions from those that have been banded?

I'm still on liquids and get to move to mushy foods next week WOOHOO!! I also have my follow-up appointment next week that I'm excited for.

Thanks to anybody that replies :)

  16. You might be surprised how well you do. The main thing to remember is stay hydrated, even if you have to sip slowly, make sure you get plenty of liquids.. Also walk as much as you can and if you get the shoulder gas pains, use a heating pad it really helped me. Important to remember that you did have surgery, take it easy don't overdo and follow your Doctor's instructions. Best of luck to you and I hope you have a good recovery. For problems with Constipation, use milk of magnesia or good ole prune juice.

Thank you so much! I've been dealing with the shoulder gas pains and have been taking GasX and it has helped.

Sounds spot on to me. Two weeks of liquids post op for me too, many years ago now. Just keep sipping those liquids you're allowed to have. This is a very important time in your process, allowing everything time to heal properly. In a few short days, you'll probably be allowed to progress to mushies = HEAVEN! Don't worry about not having the urge to eat... It'll probably come soon enough!

Congrats on your surgery and best wishes on your success! :)

I am very much looking forward to mushy foods. Thank you :)

  17. I had Lapband 6/2/15 so I am 4 days post op and have lost 9 pounds so far. The pain hasn't been so bad but I don't really have the urge to eat anything or drink anything. Did anybody else experience this? My doctor has me on a 2 week liquid diet and I have a feeling it is going to very difficult for me. Any input or suggestions for living with a band would be great! Thanks! :)
