Dub got a reaction from sja in Do any of you vets completely ignore this rule?
Had a Diet Pepsi at 11 months out.
    Was during a working lunch.
Two minutes after finishing it off.......was my turn to address the group.
Carbonation was not fun. Thought I was gonna hurl the entire time....Every time I opened my mouth to speak it felt like bubbles were gonna fly outa my mouth.
Surgeon gave me the okay to have Diet Dews if I wanted them (6th month appointment). He said, "Sure...give 'em a try if you can tolerate them". I think it was a setup. Tha brotha knew I'd not be able to.
I'm perfectly okay with Water & coffee.

    Why, thank you.
I think, though, instead of a pleasant night............I'll have a pleasant life.
In part due to the vets who led me to make the right calls at the right times......and not a bunch of enabling well-wishers who didn't have a clue what they were talking about.

You may as well get used to it.
That's what happens when there are precious few successful vets around.

You'd better glean whatever pearls of wisdom you can from them quickly as the successful vets......the very ones who have have helped bring many of us to a much better weight and state of being.....are being permanently banned from this sight.
The good news is....the newbies that feel like lost sheep can take comfort in the fact that any and every imaginable "bariatric product" is only a click away. They will be able to shop until their heart is content around here. Lot's of product for sale.
The 2 year plus successful vets don't rely on such products.....don't buy them......therefore are of little value here, it would seem.
It's a sad state of affairs around here.
If the goal were for us to help each other lose unwanted weight and improve our lives.......the vets would stay and the interaction here would flourish.
Sadly.....the goal seems to be to sell product.
I and many other would gladly pay a membership fee to keep the doors open and support the costs associated with running the sight.

A few days shy of 11 months between these two pics.
Feeling better. Thinking better. VSG was a hyooooge winning decision in my life. Why in the hell I waited so long to take action is a mystery to me. I've given up on divining the reasons why I waited.....just moving forward.
Long way to go....but grateful for the relief I feel every single day. Back pain is way better.....crappy knees are still giving me hell for waiting so long.....but my ticker is thankful and no longer working double-time to pump blood where it needs to go. It's like my body has switched into cruise control and I feel better than I have in decades. I have nothing but encouragement for anyone considering this surgery.
I've had zero complications with my VSG and my surgeon left me with simple and easily followed instructions for how to succeed with the weight loss and approach food forever.
There is nothing that I cant enjoy and nothing that I want for. Went to enjoy a birthday celebration yesterday at my favorite spot....a Mexican restaurant that I LIVED at in my old life. I had chips 'n salsa.....and margaritas.......and even ordered a meal that was off the charts with flavor......brought the leftovers home for Breakfast, lol. I sure don't eat & drink that way very often.....but I can enjoy anything on occasion.
By having 80+% of my stomach removed........I have finally found what it is to be "normal".
    Go figure.

    Dayum.....
That didn't take long to escalate.
So here's the deal, @@BSanchez2016 .....I'm a big dude, too. I'm not as big of dude now, though....thanks to the magical powers of my new sleeve and simply following my doctor's gameplan.
I can happily say that my junk not only remained intact, but it's benefitted from the weight loss, too.
Is it any bigger ? I simply don't have those stats to compare........and old Dub ain't posting any pics of his junk on the web.....so you'll simply have to take my word for it.
Is it any bigger? In my estimation, yes...it is. The base pad of fat that you mentioned has diminished in size. This translated to more usable wood.
Is it any better? Again, in my estimation, yes....it is. My vascularity is at a whole new level now. Blood flow throughout the body is amazingly improved. All over the body. My rooster will crow at the drop of a hat......a slight breeze and it's cockadoodle do. It's like being 21 again.
I'm a simple dude, too. I'm all about the simple pleasures in life. I can't accurately rank the benefits in order of importance.....but I can tell you without hesitation that being 100% satisfied with my junk and knowing that the rooster will crow and stand up proud and loud......yeah man, it may not be my number one benefit.......but it is close to top of the list.

Granted, I'm not a bypass patient, but, I would think those are foods you'll be able to have again later on down the road.
Oh....btw.....you'll be having a heap of fun between now and then, too. You will forget about food pleasures.

Dub got a reaction from GreenEyedGal in Nervous -- How about some stories on how much better you feel?
Ten months out from VSG surgery.
I feel much better in many ways.
At the time I had my surgery, I was having lots of back pain that was seriously impacting my ability to work and to enjoy my time off with family. I was also being treated for high blood pressure and taking lots of anti-inflammatory meds for joint pains. I was a couch potato....minimal movement due to my pain. I was really just a miserable feeling dude.
I'm no longer on the blood pressure meds.
My back issues are seriously improved and remain that way as long as I continue daily pt stretches and use very careful lifting techniques.
Spending some time every day or so in the gym. Feels great. Surrounded by motivated folks.
Before surgery, one of the things I really enjoyed was to cook & grill for my family. I had concerns that I'd lose this fun aspect of my life. I did lose it during my two week pre-op and for the first two months post op. Then, one day at around 8-9 weeks out I had the strong desire to fire up the coals and let it ride on the grill. I went to the grocery store and bought several types of meats and the sides for my tribe. During my stroll around the grocery store....I had to pull my pants up near constantly. My clothes were hanging loose on me and it was hilarious. Came home and had a blast in the kitchen and on the deck.....and haven't stopped since. Grilled food and my sleeve are a harmonious fit. Now I'm adding in some crunchy vegetables and life is good !!!
Emotionally........in a much better place. Tremendous difference, bro. Tremendous. That being said.....I did go through a "crazy period" while the majority of the fat was burning off. Hormones and Lord knows whatever else that was stored in that fat was released and I felt like I was 18 all over again. I went with it and it was a wild ride. The "crazy side" is still there but I've learned to control it......at least on work days, lol. Sorta like Spiderman learning not to walk around and shoot webs impulsively. Controlling the web slinging now.
Now...I'm in need of a shoulder repair, two knee replacements and have a hernia that's being monitored and will need repairing as well down the road. Add to that a tricky back. I still weight train and do cardio when my knees aren't screaming. The other day I took a kayak and put in at the river.....and went a few miles upstream. My goal was to make it ten miles to the dam, however, the Corps of Engineers began releasing Water from the dam and forward progress became impossible. still I was there....paddling my arse off....going nowhere. After I was spent....I turned around and drifted back downriver. What a cool workout. Opportunities like this come along and I jump at them. Looking forward to hunting seasons coming in.....I'll be out there climbing trees or wading into the swamp. Ducks and deer will be chased.
I'm enjoying life and looking forward to the future in a way that I couldn't imagine prior to surgery.
Life is great, boss. Come grab a seat on the Loser's Bench an mix up a pre-workout drink and get ready to do something fun that you've always wanted to do. Hell, you may even find yourself outdoors one night....and go with the feeling to howl at the moon and be a werewolf. Nobody will judge......go with it.

Dub got a reaction from SleeperC in What Bariatric Vitamins Do I Need?
Good old Flintstones chewables were what my VSG surgeon said would work just fine for me.
They available at every grocery store I've ever looked for them in.
    Taste great and very economical.
My 12 month blood work came back happy over Flintstones, too.
No need to overthink this one, folks.....that is if your surgeon did their job in counseling you properly....and you paid attention.
