  1. If you want to sit around and eat candy, sweets and trash foods......the sleeve will not stop you. You can easily find ways to eat "around" your sleeve. The way to not sabotage this is to demonstrate resolve and apply discipline. If you are in a place where you truly want to lose the weight then you will follow the plan. If you are not.....then you won't. Sorry if this is harsh......but it's the truth. You have to have your priorities in order for the sleeve to work.....and to continue working.
  2. Brb.....searching for "silver bullet of peace" thread.... Thinking of starting a new thread titled, "Things I embrace......". I'm a staunch advocate for NOT embracing a stall. There other stuff that needs embracing. We can all pile on with the stuff we now embrace.

Got an awkward boner as I was waking up in my room. Could't help it.....my surgeon had three female med students with him that had been there during my final pre-op appointments......all were attractive....one of them, though......whew......stronger than new rope. Anyway....I knew as I was waking up....all was well with the landing gear as it was deploying.....this knowledge came before I'd even been told the surgery was a success by surgeon or other staff. I waited until being discharged from hospital to give it a test run......the IV lines would have been cumbersome.........
  4. This thread is filled with awesome-ness. And to think it all began by Miss Mergs feeling guilty as she ate smallish sausage. Now....she's been coached by all to embrace the sausage and do so with vigor.
  5. "VS" as in "variable speed" (drill) -nothing dirty intended. You know how us guys love our power tools. You should see this little beauty of a variable speed drill I have, light weight, dual speeds (0-450RPM, 0-1500RPM), 20V lithium-ion battery, etc., oh yeah! (I know you meant Victoria's Secret" ) Don't let 'em fool ya.....some of these chics are down with power tools. Just look at the way their eyes glaze over when they talk about B.O.B.
  6. sleep apnea can be a killer. Getting some possible relief from this alone is worth the price of surgery. Folks that don't live with you don't fully know the impact that the medical issues that being overweight contributes to in your life. Even those living with you may not "get it". My wife, for instance, understood some of the struggles I was dealing with, but I'd concealed a lot from her. I didn't want to scare her with some of it. Once I made it through the surgery and down the road 4 months or so.....I opened up to her and others more about my rationale and motivations for having weight loss surgery. After these conversations......all were fully supportive and understanding......and grateful I was seeing the relief from each of the signs the Grim Reaper was taking interest in me..... Many people......hell, many patients.....equate weight loss surgery with simply "looking better". Our society is all about looks, no ? Most people simply go through their lives blissfully ignorant to medical fears......until it strikes them or close to them. Just tell them there are other issues that you are combating with this surgery or that you are being proactive to circumvent these issues. Living as an obese person is almost a guarantee to experience much more severe health issues and at a much earlier stage in life than is normal.
  7. I live 5+ hours away from my parents & sister. Last Mother's Day weekend, I got up at o'dark o'clock and made quick work of the drive to their hometown. I went to my Mom's favorite brunch restaurant and snuck in and sat at her table. Dad & Sis were in on the deal....Mom was clueless. Dad walked her into the restaurant and she saw me....from 15' away and turned back to Dad and said, "There is a man sitting at our table....we'd better find another". Dad chuckled and asked her to look back and see who the man was.....Mom did.....and the look of recognition started to grow on her face and then a huge smile that lit up the room. She almost dropped her cane and fell into a big old bear hug from me. Mom has been through so much medical challenges in her adult life.....and a heap of them lately, too. It was so nice to spend the weekend there......visit with her....cook for her.....and just enjoy being there and seeing her happy. My sister had bypass surgery 15 years or so back. She's absolutely done a miraculous job of staying true to the diet and rocked post-op life really well. We all witnessed the miracle of wls in her life..........and being able to see it take root in my life was a great relief to my parents.
  8. LMAO! I never thought about it like that... wow the things men come up with to size us up! LOL! Unless their fingers are the size of BANANAS-- I don't think they're qualified . LMAO at banana fingas...............

    My walk yesterday

Everything about this post is AWESOME. Thanks for sharing it.....you are doing great and thriving.
  11. Nothing at all wrong with that choice, in my opinion. Fats and Protein..........exactly what I was coached to eat by my surgeon. Eggs, sausage, cheese and bell pepper......perfect. Ya done good, kid.

    Black and White Thinking.

It was really simply laid out for me by my surgeon. He said that the next two weeks would't be much fun.....the liquid diet.....3-4 shakes per day with all the non-calorie liquids I wanted to drink...........but it was to best insure my safety during the surgery. He showed me the procedure already and how he'd use a tool to lift my liver out of the way for the duration of the surgery. He'd showed me what could happen to a fatty liver......vs a properly dieted liver. The thought of waking up post-op and realizing that my surgery had been aborted due to liver issues was all the motivation that I needed to adhere to the 14 day liquid diet. Was it any fun ? Not really........but the scale moved and each day found me closer to my surgery. It's a great way to mentally break away from food, too. This is something that we all need to do prior to our surgery anyway. You can pay someone to change the oil in your car, do your lawn work and yes.....perform your surgeries..........but this is the part that YOU must OWN and take care of. You can do it. Don't overthink it.......just do it.

    This is a TMI moment...

Smoooove is always extra appreciated by this dude.
  14. I had it the week after surgery. I remember it being very chalky tasting, but not foul.....just chalky. Didn't matter to me, though.....I was needing some serious relief from developing constipation. The abdominal hernia repair was not liking any type of abdominal pressure

    This is a TMI moment...

Ooohhhh, I get it now. It's like a "junk YARD"... Junk Upgrade 2.0 Ooohhhh, I get it now. It's like a "junk YARD"... One can only hope they keep the hedges trimmed.... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Going clean shorn is usually the first move after said 2.0 package upgrade is established. It gives the illusion of enhanced mass. Of course.....in his case.....most of the foliage was likely singed off anyway as a result of the kanky stuff they are doing with the hot wax and such..............much respect to Team Fat Man.
  16. It's a term I use for positive emphasis of a statement of fact or a revelation of great import. For instance.....a group of people are trying to solve a common problem.....someone come by and throws out a perfection solution. BAMSUCKA !!!!!! @HighFunctioningFatMan stated the genre of guilty pleasure that I'd been thinking about. It resonated with me. So damn grateful for the various byproducts of getting leaner.
  17. Most recent pics I have of this type. The before was taken the day prior to my October 2015 sleeve surgery. The during pic was taken last week.
  18. Outstanding results. You are doing great and rocking the results !!!!!! Transformation Tuesday....what a cool theme.

    Pre op liquid diet

I was on a 14-day liquid pre-op. I lost ten pounds. I'd been doing low-carb diet for the 3.5 months leading up to sleeve surgery 14-day pre-op liquid diet where I'd lost 45 lbs. I look back and see where i could have easily lost more weight had I been more active. Same thing can be said for now, too.

    Surgery without telling anyone?

With a BMI of 35 I think that you can absolutely pull it off without being interrogated, lol. If you were a 50+ BMI, then I think it'd be a different situation. You are going to be making visible behavioral changes when you are post op.....they'll see that you eat smaller portions......and that you eat less junk food......and perhaps go low-carb. That should keep their curiosity from growing. People lose large amounts of weight from low-carb diets every single day. Likely that they know such people and will assume you have joined their ranks.
  21. Gotcha. Well.......there is a lot of stuff to consider pre-op.....a lot of speculation on which procedure....which surgeon......which way of eating to adopt.....etc. Nothing wrong with getting lots of input in making your decision......up to a point. Once you've gleaned enough to make your choice then additional input does get aggravating....not matter the source. It is good to have your father's prior experiences with wls, though. There will be a lot of his experience that you'll be able to relate to and perhaps adopt best practices that you observed from him.
  22. You are always right to put your foot down in regards to your own health. They really are two different surgeries with different capabilities afterwards. So....what is her solution to the junk food issue ?
  23. I've mostly reigned in my indulgence in guilty pleasures...... It's fun to have fun, though. No guilt from most funs. Life is much more enjoyable now that I'm a bit more streamlined and able to do things I enjoy. Bamsucka !!!! There it is..........one of the greatest byproducts of wls........getting thy freak-on !!!!
  24. @@MiaLynn I had the sleeve surgery 11 months ago and I've had none of the issues you say you are fearing. I can only speak from my perspective....my experience. I can have anything I want to eat.....I just choose not to. I've never experienced the dumping sensation unlike my little sister who had bypass. The only thing even remotely close to the dumping sensation that I've had is If I eat candy or sweets.....they tend to upset my stomach and give diarrhea. I attribute this to the refined sugar being a rarely injected food by my system. I'm fairly certain that this wouldn't occur if I ate that type of stuff more often. I hope that I never do ! I can drink anything I want.....but I prefer staying away from anything caloric or carbonated. My exception to this is on the nights where I'll enjoy an adult drink.....even then I stay low calorie on the mixer. I find that alcohol impacts me stronger only due to the fact that I don't have food in my stomach when I'm drinking like I did in past life. Outside of that....it's the same. I lost a nice chunk of weight on my own......and regained it....several times in my life. I feel confident that this time, however, I'll get it right......and maintain. The only times I've thrown up were due to actually being sick.....would have likely thrown up even if I was pre-op. Once was a stomach virus and once was from a sinus infection and the drainage in my throat was too much to handle and I hurled. Only you can make the decision for yourself. Get the best information you can as you make your choices. I wish that had the sleeve surgery sooner.....but am very relieved that I finally did. Life is very straightforward and easy with it. The sleeve will prevent you from eating large quantities of food at one time.....but, for me, at least....it doesn't prevent me from eating any type of food.
